  1. I'm 22 and a 2003 grad of SLU (BA Communications). I work at a radio station in mid-Mo (95.7FM) that reaches 40 counties throughout Missouri (it also reaches a few in Illinois and Iowa). I've actually worked there since I was 16. I also worked at KSLU where I was Sports Director and started "The Billiken Sports Hour." I was a season ticket holder every year I was a student and loved every minute of it. I spent my last two years at SLU going to games with StlCardinal and SLUFanatic, both of whom barely post on here (hint, hint). Being a mid-Mo native, I must admit that I grew up a Mizzou fan. That changed, however, when I decided to attend SLU. Now Mizzou is probably my least favorite school in the country. It's mainly the fans that get on my nerves because they never give SLU any credit for anything. The most frustrating thing, however, is that many people in my town (Mexico, Mo) have never even heard of SLU. They think it is either the College of Pharmacy or UMSL. Not that there's anything wrong with those schools, but it's still a slap in the face! I am currently single (and always looking! ). I don't plan on getting married any time soon, but the girl I marry will have to be a Billiken fan! If not, she gets the old heeve-ho! "Praises we sing, to you our alma mater, Praise to the white and blue. Our hymn shall ring, in tribute strong to you, We hail Saint Louis U."
  2. I think Matt Shaw would certainly be a solid "get" for this team and make our recruiting class just that much more solid. Granted, I've never seen him play, but from what everyone says, he sounds like he would be a very nice addition to this team. The height (or lack there of) doesn't really bother me at all since Sloan does a decent job and Jeff Harris was a very nice player for this program and neither one of them are "skyscrapers." Just out of curiosity though, if he did grow an inch or two more, do you think more big time programs would be afer him? "Praises we sing, to you our alma mater, Praise to the white and blue. Our hymn shall ring, in tribute strong to you, We hail Saint Louis U."
  3. What a great recruting tactic by Brad! I heard he did the same with Grimes. I remember Bernie mentioning that in one of his articles, that Brad would send Grimes a hand written note almost every day. I guess it didn't work with him, but I don't know if we want a player with his work ethic on the team anyway. I hope he does the same with Shaw, not to mention Lisch. If that doesn't make a player feel wanted, I don't know what would? "Praises we sing, to you our alma mater, Praise to the white and blue. Our hymn shall ring, in tribute strong to you, We hail Saint Louis U."
  4. Nevermind, I found it...18 pts, 9 rebs, and 2 asts per game. Not bad, I think I would take that. Plus if he's as much of a "banger" as everyone here says he is, I don't think the lack of height will matter at all. Go get him Brad and make this one heck of a class! "Praises we sing, to you our alma mater, Praise to the white and blue. Our hymn shall ring, in tribute strong to you, We hail Saint Louis U."
  5. Hopefully Liddell and Shaw were friends on the Eagles and we can land Matt too. What kind of numbers did Shaw put up last year? Also, what do the scouting reports say about him? I know all this has been mentioned in the past, but I can't remember right now. Any help would be great! "Praises we sing, to you our alma mater, Praise to the white and blue. Our hymn shall ring, in tribute strong to you, We hail Saint Louis U."
  6. Very good point Nark. Let's say Tommie has the breakout senior year some people expect and Polk completely recovers from his injury from last year. Don't you think that might bolster the quality of this recruiting class? I would think they might have a chance to crack the top 100...or at least Tommie does. Wouldn't it be great if Tommie was the Illinois player of the year and Polk was named Mr. Show-Me basketball this year? I know the chances of that happening are quite slim, but isn't it fun to dream? What a great day to be a Billiken!!! "Praises we sing, to you our alma mater, Praise to the white and blue. Our hymn shall ring, in tribute strong to you, We hail Saint Louis U."
  7. For you long time Billiken fanatics, I was wondering where you thought a class of Polk, Liddell, Meyer, Shaw/Polk would rate compared to other classes in SLU history? Would it be as good as the Hughes or Claggett classes, potentially better, or solid but not quite to the caliber of those classes? I was just curious what everyone thought. Also, do you think an all Stl class would increase attendance at games? I could definitely see that happening, but you all might not agree. "Praises we sing, to you our alma mater, Praise to the white and blue. Our hymn shall ring, in tribute strong to you, We hail Saint Louis U."
  8. Yep, that sure is our website. We actually just redesigned it on Wednesday. The old version wasn't that great with the exception of it having the staff listed on there. That's the only thing I wish they would have kept on there. I like the new one much better though. By the way, KWWR are perhaps the worse call letters in radio history. I don't know if there's anything harder than saying "double-U double-U" on the air. If you wanted to know though the WWR stands for "the Wonderful World of Radio." "Praises we sing, to you our alma mater, Praise to the white and blue. Our hymn shall ring, in tribute strong to you, We hail Saint Louis U."
  9. No, we are certainly not an all sports format, although I would love it if we were. I actually work at a station called "Country 96" (95.7 FM) in my hometown. I did used to work at KSLU, however. I was the Sports Director there and the founder of the show "The Billiken Sports Hour." Although some of you might make fun of me for working at a country station, how many kids out of college get their first break at a 100,000 watt station that reaches 40 counties? "Praises we sing, to you our alma mater, Praise to the white and blue. Our hymn shall ring, in tribute strong to you, We hail Saint Louis U."
  10. According to Channel 5 last night, it was down to us, Marquette, and Illinois. I've heard you all say on numerous occasions that Marquette was given away all their scholarships for 2005, so I'm assuming it's down to us and Illinois. Has he even visited U of I yet? It looks like it should be us since we're getting all the mentions from the recruiting gurus, but I guess you never know. I believe it ya Nate! By the way, if it is SLU that he picks, I might have to do a special news bulletin since I'll be at work and let all my listeners/co-workers know...after all, I am in Mizzou country out here! "Praises we sing, to you our alma mater, Praise to the white and blue. Our hymn shall ring, in tribute strong to you, We hail Saint Louis U."
  11. Well yes Nate, my salary is pretty laughable, but in a time when jobs are hard to come by, I was more than happy to accept it. Besides, I'm happy doing what I'm doing. Isn't that all that really matters in life? I doubt if I'll stick with it forever anyway. I'd actually really like to get a job at SLU someday. Perhaps everyone on this board would write me a letter of recommendation? "Praises we sing, to you our alma mater, Praise to the white and blue. Our hymn shall ring, in tribute strong to you, We hail Saint Louis U."
  12. Yeah, I know what you mean Nate. Granted, I'm in small market media anyway and I just graduated from college, so of course I don't make much, but the general belief in the media is do it because you love it, not because you want to be rich some day...that more than likely will never happen! "Praises we sing, to you our alma mater, Praise to the white and blue. Our hymn shall ring, in tribute strong to you, We hail Saint Louis U."
  13. Nate, Do you know if the Post will have an article or at least a "blurb" in tomorrow's paper about Liddell having a press conferece scheduled for tomorrow? I was just curious. "Praises we sing, to you our alma mater, Praise to the white and blue. Our hymn shall ring, in tribute strong to you, We hail Saint Louis U."
  14. I would hope this is a smoke screen. No one calls for a press conference when they haven't made up their mind...or at least I don't remember anyone ever doing that. I also noticed that SLU wasn't mentioned in the schools that offered? At least not on the quote that Nate wrote. Any chance he just mentioned every school that offered except for the one he's committing to tomorrow? Come on Tommie, we'd treat you like royalty if you chose to wear the "Billiken blue"!!! "Praises we sing, to you our alma mater, Praise to the white and blue. Our hymn shall ring, in tribute strong to you, We hail Saint Louis U."
  15. I love the arena! It's going to look amazing when they get it built and I would love to see a line-up with Polk, Lisch, Liddell, and Shaw/Polk on the floor in the first ever game played there. I'm just salivating thinking of it! I also love the fact that they're going to have team stores in the arena. Then we'll have more options than just the bookstore to get SLU merchandise. Does anyone else think that they should sell SLU basketball jerseys? I would buy one in a second! "Praises we sing, to you our alma mater, Praise to the white and blue. Our hymn shall ring, in tribute strong to you, We hail Saint Louis U."
  16. Please be true....please be true!!!! I've wanted to see this guy in "SLU blue" ever since I heard about him. If we get Liddell, I think that will just open up the flood gates for years to come and we'll always have a solid chance at getting the best players "the Lou" has to offer. I've said it once and I'll say it again, I think a player like Liddell can get us into the Top 25 someday and certainly to the tourney! Maybe I'm a bit too overly optimistic, but man am I excited!!! By the way, any chance that Liddell and Lisch are friends? "Praises we sing, to you our alma mater, Praise to the white and blue. Our hymn shall ring, in tribute strong to you, We hail Saint Louis U."
  17. David, I heard Bernie say earlier this summer on KMOX how SLU would be perfect for the MVC. That's why I included him on the list. He said that he didn't see why SLU fans thought it would be a step down because of how well the Salukis and Creighton have played the last few years. Plus since we were a midwest team, we're in the perfect location to join them. Sorry, no sale for me...I want the A-10! "Praises we sing, to you our alma mater, Praise to the white and blue. Our hymn shall ring, in tribute strong to you, We hail Saint Louis U."
  18. http://tinyurl.com/oqi5 Jeez, why are all the St. Louis media guys wanting us to downgrade? I may only be in small market media, but I'm totally for SLU going to the A-10 (especially if the consolation is either a much weakened C-USA or the MVC)! I'm sorry, but I just don't see it. I would much rather battle it out in a harder conference that gets 3 or 4 NCAA Tourney teams a year than be a "power" in a conference that only gets one team in the "big dance" a year. No way we'll ever be considered a team to be reckoned with all around the country if we join the MVC. We may not be the best team in the country right now, but we're headed in the right direction and joining a weaker conference would be a "hurdle" that we probably could not overcome. If Bernie says we shouldn't settle for "mediocrity", then why should we join a weaker conference? "Praises we sing, to you our alma mater, Praise to the white and blue. Our hymn shall ring, in tribute strong to you, We hail Saint Louis U."
  19. I was wondering who all of you thought we had a better chance of getting: Liddell or Shaw? I can see it both ways. I can see having a better chance at getting Shaw because there aren't really any big name programs going after him. On the other hand, Stanford and Carbondale supposedly have the upper hand on us (at least prior to Friday). Of course, we've also been going hard after Liddell since day one and now that Morris isn't coming we can probably hold a scholarship just for him, just in case he doesn't get eligible before next year. On the contrary, we don't know if or when he'll be eligible, plus there are a lot of big name programs after him. "Praises we sing, to you our alma mater, Praise to the white and blue. Our hymn shall ring, in tribute strong to you, We hail Saint Louis U."
  20. I was just wondering if anyone saw Tommie on campus today or knew how productive the visit was? Any rumors out there? By the way, when is Shaw supposed to visit? "Praises we sing, to you our alma mater, Praise to the white and blue. Our hymn shall ring, in tribute strong to you, We hail Saint Louis U."
  21. Wow, I certainly didn't think that my one question would lead to this kind of debate. Keep in mind though, I never said we WOULD definitely be a Top 25 team, I asked if you guys thought we COULD be a Top 25 team IF we landed a player like Liddell or Burns? I agreee that we would probably need one more star player to take us over the top, but I figured that Liddell or Burns would be that type of player. Especially Liddell after all the stuff I've heard about him. Of course he has to get eligible first before we can even think of him being a Billiken. I do admit that I am an optimist, but I don't think that thinking the Bills can at least go to the Tourney in 2005 is out of the question. Although, I also admit that we need to see what kind of players Brad has brought in for this year before we get too overly optimistic. I'm very happy with what Brad's done so far though. "Praises we sing, to you our alma mater, Praise to the white and blue. Our hymn shall ring, in tribute strong to you, We hail Saint Louis U."
  22. If we could land a Liddell or Burns-caliber player at wing, does anyone think we could be a Top 25 team in 2005? I think we could! Of course I've never seen any of these new players play, but I've been very impressed with Brad's ability to evaluate players. I know a lot relies on our inside players, but I think we'll be able to get at least solid contributions from most of them. I don't think we'll be a "bubble" or .500 team in 2005 with the caliber of players Brad has brought in. "Praises we sing, to you our alma mater, Praise to the white and blue. Our hymn shall ring, in tribute strong to you, We hail Saint Louis U."
  23. That's a good point Roy. Although Irons is a great coach, he certainly doesn't shy away from the camera. I remember him being interviewed when Lorenzo left and him expressing much interest in the job. Gee, after all that Brad has done for us since he got the job, don't you wish Floyd would have gotten the job instead? I'm sure Woolard and Biondi are really kicking themselves now! "Praises we sing, to you our alma mater, Praise to the white and blue. Our hymn shall ring, in tribute strong to you, We hail Saint Louis U."
  24. Thanks Roy, I knew SLU couldn't do anything until Luke signed, but I was wondering if Borgia had a press conference? I know when Polk committed, Vashon had one. It just seems like all high schools hold press conferences when a player of their's commits to a Division 1 school, either verbally or by signing. I was just wondering if Borgia did? "Praises we sing, to you our alma mater, Praise to the white and blue. Our hymn shall ring, in tribute strong to you, We hail Saint Louis U."
  25. Did they actually have the press conference today to announce that Meyer has orally committed to SLU or are we still speculating? I was just curious because I didn't see the news tonight and I didn't see an article about it on the Posts' website yet. "Praises we sing, to you our alma mater, Praise to the white and blue. Our hymn shall ring, in tribute strong to you, We hail Saint Louis U."
