  1. I am stunned. This is so sad. What a great guy.  To be taken from his family and all of us so young.  Hard to process.  I remember his father in the stands with his hardhat. Makes me stop and reflect on how valuable each day we have is.  RIP Justin. Thanks for the memories.

This is basically just a way to brag on my kid, who sat with us for about six years when my dad was still alive (and 11 years since). This was my surprise Christmas present, just installed last month.

However, for any other fan offspring, Father's Day is coming up... :)

Joe, that is awesome!!!  We just finished SLU 101 for my daughter who will be a freshman. I can hope that I am so lucky to have any of us remembered/honored in this way.

  3. I must say that Ford was extremely impressive in interviews. His references were excellent from some of the most highly respected folks in college bb. He is known as a tireless recruiter and this year in the top RPI conference he had a team decimated by injuries, particularly his star senior point guard--great shooter and scorer and leader on the court. But even then his team beat Kansas. I am very excited by this hire but I also know that we need to be a bit patient. I am confident he will do a good job. No one can know how good until we see how he recruits to SLU and see the team on the court. He is still only 46 and he has a lot of energy. I hope everyone gives him a chance.

    +1

  4. As a longer term fan than almost anyone on this board I would suggest that there are about 8 posters who are constantly negative no matter what happens, even if the team plays better. No one knows better than me that we have been up and down in our play. It is those constantly negative posters who have put this board to sleep. Why would anyone want to say anything positive when they know they will just be attacked?

  5. He should be on the hot seat. Last year was pathetic after all of the recent success and I really have no reason for optimism at this point for next year. Will it take 3-4 seasons of sub .500 basketball for people to think we need a new coach? I have higher expectations than that.

We were 3-15 in conference with 2 OT wins. There better be improvement.

"But suddenly, a new contender has emerged..."

  6. Buncha jackoffs here, the guy who started thread: especially. Sure constructive criticism is welcome but some of you are an absolute embarrassment.

    • Majerus was a great coach, his illness and it's timing left the program with a severe gap in talent, recruits were reluctant to come to a team with that uncertainty
    • Crews first recruiting class was last years freshmen, that is final.
    • Last year things went badly, team chemistry was effected by some bad apples.
    • Last year we had one of the very youngest teams in D-1, no upper class leadership.
    • Last year a good 9 man rotation could not be established, most no one could sustain consistent productivity long enough to do so
    • Six freshman from last year have the potential to be strong contributors, 3-4 of them especially

Sure I question things, why TF didn't we blow out those 3 foo foo teams in The Bahamas, Ash, all of that... well we do not know the whole story, do we? Nagging injuries, discipline, maybe Coach wanted them to just have fun since the season is going to be so grueling. I trust him.

You are a fool if you think we can do better than Crews. Majerus was great, but he came here magically, it was pure luck. For once we got a break.

Give Crews a chance before throwing your hissy fits. .

    Agreed

  7. Might be fun to have a running thread for this. Or not. Who knows.

To start though, does JC keep his job if we finish .500 or worse? Is this even a debate to be had?

Conversely, is anything better than .500 a lock for him to return the following year? I'd think so, with our administration.

    Unbelievable. SMDH

  8. If Crews is trying to figure out the back end of the rotation then he needs to be fired immediately. In what universe do we have the luxury of figuring out the back of our rotation? I could give 2 sh1ts about how much our 10th guy plays. Let's get our top 7 guys playing like a well oiled machine. They're going to dictate how many we win or lose/. Crews has rarely figured out the right rotation at SLU.

Especially during those two NCAA tournament runs and top 20 rankings... :D

  9. I keep reminding myself that these games mean nothing and that lineups and minutes played mean nothing. However, that is oh so hard to do! I can't for the life of me figure out why Crews does what he does, but in all fairness to Crews I used to feel that way during early practices with RickMa. The difference is that I had a ton of confidence with Rick.

Crawford has looked very good so far this summer and then gets limited minutes. Welmer, who I think is going to be a nice player gets significantly more minutes than anybody else on the team. For the second game, the walk-on gets a nice amount of minutes. Ash is only averaging about 7 minutes in the first two games.

The only thing that would confuse me more is if Eagleton showed up and got some minutes while on crutches.

Let me think about this. I'm a head coach. I have an opportunity to practice and play actual games well ahead of REAL practice and REAL games beginning. I have the opportunity to experiment under game like conditions with NO CONSEQUENCES other than getting great experience for all the players I don't really know that well. Plus, I can get limited minutes and avoid injury to most of the players I already have a good handle on. Yep, I like Crews' strategy and you should too!

  10. From the brief write up, we got beat on the boards by a smaller team. Looks like Rick's mantra, to win defense and rebound, is pretty much out the window with Crews crew. The article also said the Cabana boys scored a lot of second chance points. Now, wasn't the whole point of recruiting really tall inside guys to dominate the boards and prevent put backs? Sorry, it is not encouraging when we get out rebounded by a team of fishing guides.

The stats show we out rebounded them 35-30. I don't understand how that is getting beat on the boards.

On another rebounding note, Reggie had three boards in five minutes so that would clearly suggest an average of 24 rebounds a game...correct?

  11. So you are saying a winner doesn't have to win? Lisch fulfills his potential, works hard, overachieves, that doesn't necessarily make him a winner.

There is no problem with the definition of winning. Kevin Lisch won games, he didn't win titles at least not at SLU. Lisch might be a better player than Kwamain Mitchell or Jordair Jett but those two were winners. Lisch was not. There haven't been many true winners at SLU. Let's not tarnish their legacies by including others just because they were good or great players. That doesn't make you a winner even in a team sport.

Lisch is probably in my top 5 favorite Billikens of all time and it disheartens me that I have to put him down in order to refute your ridiculous claim.

I can't believe people are even arguing about this. What's the point?

  12. I was actually thinking it was the more of the opposite. Majerus didn't care nearly as much about how tall his players are as Crews does.

Not sure about how you got "tall" players out of that. I was referring to the comment about recruiting good players as opposed to stars.

  13. The blueprint is clear. The staff is offering guys who are good, not great athletes, can shoot it and are size mismatches at their position. I can live with that blueprint for every position except point guard. I think you need a really quick player at that position. Too many quick points in this conference.

Is it fair to say that this is similar to RM's approach?

  14. Wow. I don't know why I'm surprised people are watching a d1 basketball practice and trying to figure out if the coach has been told something about his job security because he yells and is tough. I can help. He hasn't been told his job is in jeopardy nor is it. There is nothing to surmise except a coach holding a practice and being tough. It's normal, nothing going on here. I know it'd be silly of me to ask if we could just relax and forget about whether or not JC will be fired until at least a few games into the season.

Stop with this rational thought! Don't you know where you're posting?!?!
