  1. No one here has said he/she expects the Billkens to reach the Final Four this year (or next year, for that matter). But Marquette isn't any more likely to reach the Final Four this year. The Billikens don't need to get the recruits that Marquette gets; SLU needs to get good, skilled, and athletic players who can play team ball in Brad Soderberg's system. That's already happening. Also, I'll take Dwayne Polk, Tommie Liddell, and Kevin Lisch as eagerly as any player Marquette has recruited, including Dwayne Wade and Dameon Mason. Lastly, getting highly-touted recruits is not what puts a team on a certain level: it's what the recruits accomplish while they're in school. Memphis gets committments from the cream of the crop, but they haven't done jack squat (partly because the recruits never get there). Missouri has recruited a number of top-notch classes but hasn't done anything with them.
  2. I think many casual fans, especially in St. Louis, want 2nd and 3rd to be reversed, so that it would look as follows: 1st = score in big numbers and win 2nd = score in big numbers and lose 3rd = score in smaller numbers and win 4th = score in small numbers and lose
  3. I agree that Dayton and Xavier (and hopefully Charlotte, also) look like potential rivalries in the future. Right now, though, I think Xavier's rivalries are with Cincinnati and Dayton, because of proximity.
  4. Saint Louis doesn't have any true rivals. If we were to consider any, they would have to be Southern Illinois and Southwest Missouri. While it's true that most of us detest Cincinnati, they're not a rival because they don't disdain us with intensity nearly equal.
  5. Perhaps part of the cause of the Billikens' poor offense was the international three-point line and the lane configuration (I don't know for sure, but I think they are using the international lane that's wider on the baseline than at the free-throw line). I suspect they didn't adequately prepare for the differences.
  6. Roy, I think he was saying that perhaps Tom hasn't been putting out like he should, not Vas'shun.
  7. They're strong during the day, but after sunset, they might as well not exist.
  8. Apparently, Newborne is taking a while to adjust to Div. I-level play. It tends to happen to juco transfers. I still believe we'll get more out of Newborne by the end of the season than we got out of Sloan.
