  1. the guy that started the thread is as anti SLU as anybody on this board is anti Mizzou. He really has it in for us. He claimed a few months ago that Darren Clarke hadn't qualified yet because SLU has the ability to take partial qualifiers. the rest of the board just hates the Post so much they will lash out at anything possible. Here is the typical Tigerboard response to any Post article on the Mizzou basketball program. If the article is positive and suggests a final four...the Post is setting us up for failure. They have a vendetta. If the article is about the pending investigation...its all the Post's fault. They have a vendetta. If the Post doesn't write about them but write about us instead...the Post is ignoring us and we get an unfair lack of coverage. They have a vendetta.
  2. for my first two years (95-97) and actually started the 97-98 school year there when an apartment opened up in the Marquetti towers. I guess that means we were floor mates for like two weeks.
  3. If Soderberg was serious about using Liddell a little at the point you could potentially have a line-up at times of Liddell 6'5 Bryant 6'2 Izak 6'9 JJ 6'8 Ian 6'11 Now that would create match-up problems! Long gone would be the days of a 3-guard offense with a 6'2 small forward like Drejaj.
  4. not too long ago. Either times have changed or A-Bomb is a female. Now 14G, that was a bas a$$ floor.
  5. there was an overture in a Katz article that CUSA wouldn't want us anymore if Cinci, Marquette, Depaul and Louisville left and would try to push us to the open arms of the A-10. If that is true then I would think we could negotiate and get some of our money back. Plus, if the WAC steals TCU, Tulane, Houston, etc. CUSA would crumble. If and when that happens all the credits revert back to the original schools. I wouldn't be surprised if Cinic, Marquette, etc. led a lawsuit against the conference to retain the NCAA credits. Since 17 of the 19 past NCAA appearances have been by departing teams, it seems to me they this threat could at the very least strike fear in the conference and force them to negotiate a settlement.
  6. Given that we have only played in 3 NCAA tourney games since joining CUSA and Charlotte seems to go every year, I'd bet the number is considerably less, but still over $1mm. It appears in CUSA you keep 50% of the revenues yourself and the remaining 50% gets divided up 13 ways.
  7. Check it out. http://www.slu.edu/arena/
  8. its cold hard facts like those that show why being in the A-10 is so much better than the MVC.
  9. I'm ecstatic about the possibility of Liddell commiting, and Jalensdad has always been right on in the past, so it feels good...and while I also enjoyed seeing Mizzou tank it, I can never call it a great day when the Cubbies qualify for the playoffs. That team has quickly become my Mizzou of pro baseball and the sooner the Braves can wipe that cockiness of Prior's face the better. Go Braves! p.s. you would think they've already won the world series the way those people act. Guess what, there's seven other teams still around and none of them are named the Reds, Pirates or Brewers. The Cubs are in for a rude awakening. p.p.s. The Cards collapse not withstanding, have you ever a team tank it more then the Astros did this past week? A week ago they had a two game lead in the loss column and they go and lose 6 of their last 8 games. What a joke.
  10. is wrong on the KU games. The home game was at the Kiel (Dec. 23rd I believe on ESPN---we won) and the return game was indeed at Kemper, but at KU's choice. Thus, according to you, we got a home game and a neutral game out of it. Not bad. As for the Illinois game, I don't think it was technically a neutral court game, meaning Illinois was not allotted good tickets and the revenues were not split. WE chose to play the game at the dome because we knew we could get a huge gate from it and I believe it still remains the largest gate for any regular season game in Missouri (30,000+). And to your general points, it is NOT more preferable to play an away game at a top 25 then to play a home and home with middle of the road teams in big conferences. SIUC was reported to have an offer to play at Oklahoma last season. Yet they never took it because its a bad deal. Also, I believe the MVC has pressured its teams NOT to play those type of games because it only feeds the mid-major level.
  11. expect that SLU would go to the Big East? Once we knew the numbers, and we've known for two months now that the Big East would be looking to add 2 basketball only schools, did anybody really think the Big East would choose SLU over Depaul, or Xavier, or Dayton, or Marquette. Now, if Burwell had written that we didn't get the splinter, catholic, conference that we had wanted then I would agree with him, but I doubt there were too many people in the SLU office that thought we'd go ot the Big East as it currently is formed. Again I ask, don't we already have natural rivalries with SIU and SMS. Why join a conference to play them 1 extra game?
  12. we already play SMS and SIUC once a year (this is an off year for SIUC bu still) so why would we join a conference to play those teams one more time and Creighton twice when you could join the A-10 and play Xavier, Dayton, and Charlotte twice and St. Joe, Temple, UMass once? the simple numbers don't work.
  13. The only games that excite me in CUSA on a year-in and year-out basis are: Marquette 2 Depaul 2 Charlotte 2 Louisville 1 Cinci 1 Memphis 1 UAB 1 I will be surprised if we don't play Marquette and Depaul once a year for a good while. I also will be surprised if we don't play 1 game for a while against one of the Louisville/Cinci/Memphis group. Thats 3 games. We will probbaly get 2 each against Dayton, Xavier, and possibly Charlotte. Add in 1 game each against Temple, UMass, and St. Joe. and you have 12 quality games. We only got 10 in CUSA and 1 with Dayton. If the rest of our non-conference schedule stays the same our RPI will be fine, assuming Fordam and Duquene leave. If they stay it will hurt. The A-10 will be fine for us, is it the perfect Papal conference we were hoping for, no. But its about the same as CUSA was going to be going forward.
  14. Have you read what the proposed divisions will be for the new Big East. The Western division could be: Depaul Marquette Cinci Louisville Notre Dame Pittsburgh Villanova West Virginia Notre Dame and Depaul are in Marquette's back-yard and Louisville and Cinci they are already playing. Explain to me how that division will cost more to travel to then a possible A-10 division of: SLU Dayton Richmond Xavier Charlotte GW Duquesne We will do fine in the A-10 people. Especially if we keep 1 non-conference game with Marquette and Depaul this will work out fine.
  15. the money goes with each school. Marquette will take its Final Four $ to the Big East. If CUSA sticks together it will stay with the NASCAR division. At least thats my understanding of it. I hope you are right and Marquette, Depaul, SLU and Charlotte all join a revamped A-10 but I've just read to many places that they are going to get the invite. We will see.
  16. Marquette and Depaul aren't going to get the Big East invite. Everything I have read says they will. Do you have some inside information or is this just speculation? I agree with the rest of your post. A conference is what each team makes of it but its a lot easier to recruit when you are in a good conference, I think the A-10 with Marquette, Depaul, Charlotte and SLUY would be a very nice conference as long as the bottom dwellars are booted.
  17. who pay attention to the SLU cheerleaders and also watch reality t.v. this should interest you. http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/Entertain...ijuana+Bradley+ As a highschool kid attending games during the Clagget/Highmark days I can say I certainly remember her...
  18. I saw this article on a Mighigan State site. Its pretty funny and although its about football most of it can be applied to the responses on this board. How Can This High School Punk Not LOVE MY SCHOOL???? - Jason Foster - Big 10 Columnist - While we sift through the plethora of meaningless corporate sponsored football exhibitions, we are in the midst of the recruiting period for college football coaches. All across the country, coaches are eating chicken-fried steak, staying in Red Roof Inns and missing out on quality time with the family as they schmooze 17 and 18 year old kids and their parents/street agent representative/friend of the family/girlfriend. I don’t get bent out of shape over recruiting rankings or scouting services. I find the method that some services use in evaluating different classes ridiculous. There are so many instances of “can’t miss†prospects who flame out. Players aren’t physically mature, and good coaching can go along way in player development. What cracks me up is how some fans of a school have a conniption when a player signs with some other school than the one they root for. When this happens, the reactions typically fall into one of the following categories: The spurned fans question why “so-and-so†would want to go to school there? My school is better academically, it has a better tradition, the nachos are better in the dormitory cafeteria, etc. KNOCK DOWN THE SCHOOL THAT WAS CHOSEN. Determine that my school really didn’t want the kid anyway. Decide to harp on the C– the player received on a pop quiz in English class and decide he is an academic risk. KNOCK DOWN THE RECRUIT. Decide that if a kid leaves the state to attend another school (especially if the other school is in the same conference), then you promise that the kid will have no future outside of football in his home state. “I’m sorry, boy. But you could have had a job selling used cars or insurance anywhere you wanted if you’d have gone to State U. Don’t plan on settling back here, boy.†MAKE IRRATIONAL THREATS. I have some news for some of you fans. This is especially true for fans of schools with a national stature. While you have an insatiable passion for your school and its football team, a lot of recruits do not have the same passion for your pile of bricks and mortar that you do. While there are a few “Rudies†who always have dreamed of playing for Notre Dame, Michigan, Penn State or whoever, a majority of recruits decide on a school not because of a love for your quad, the funny looking helmets or your funny looking statue/mosaic/fight song. A recruit will choose a school for his own selfish reason rather than to please you and your fellow fanatics. Such reasons may include: Geographical proximity to the recruit’s hometown. A desire to play far away from home. A strong relationship that develops with an assistant coach. A dream to play for a head coach whom he has never met. A desire to play right away. A desire to red-shirt and wean into the system. A 2:1 female to male student ratio. A $500 handshake from a boisterous booster. A desire to play in a program that plays by the rules. A team that will be on TV a lot. A school that will better prepare him for the NFL. A pretty co-ed winked at him during his on-campus visit. He sees an ad in the local sports section during his recruiting visit that has a nudie bar that allows 18 year old patrons. They offer a strong engineering program. They offer “Rocks for Jocks†in the Geology Department. The bottom line is that for many high school players, their college choice is no different than what a college graduate goes through in selecting their first job. If a graduate is fortunate enough to receive multiple job offers, why do they select the company that they do? Could it be because: Geographic proximity to your hometown. Desire to work in a different part of the country. A strong relationship develops with a mentor in the company. The desire to work for a legendary manager/executive you never have met. (Such as Chainsaw Al Dunlop). The desire to assume management responsibility right away. A desire to be an assistant and learn the ropes for the first few years. A bunch of hotties in the secretarial pool. A signing bonus and other perks. A company that will cut corners and ignore ethics to win market share. A company that is well known and on CNBC & CNNfn a lot. A company that will prepare you for a more prestigious company in four to five years. You had a one-night stand with the boss’s wife during your site visit. Your office is located next to a Blimpie’s. They have a strong R & D department. You know you can be a faceless cubicle inhabitant and be a slacker from nine-to-five. Now if you start work with ABC instead of company XYZ, I’m sure there will be many employees and retirees from XYZ who think you are making a huge mistake. ABC will go downhill, you are a fool for wanting to work there, don’t ever call on XYZ Human Resources in the future. So if you are wondering why someone would play for someone else rather than your beloved institution of higher learning, I have one bit of advice: Get over yourself.
  19. Conference dominos could fall in November Thursday, Sept. 11: Expect the Big East to make a final decision on its future by the first week in November. Various sources have confirmed that the choices are simple: stay together or split. The presidents are leaning toward staying together. Sources say Louisville, Marquette and DePaul are the first three on the list to go to the Big East with the fourth choice being Cincinnati, East Carolina, Central Florida or South Florida, to make a 16-team league. If Conference USA loses four members (all but Central Florida are from C-USA) then TCU could hold the fate of the rest of its members. If TCU were to go to the Mountain West or WAC then C-USA could crumble. If TCU stays, then C-USA would likely steal SMU, Tulsa and Rice from the WAC and possibly Marshall and Central Florida from the MAC (in football). The WAC is nervous it could get poached from C-USA and Mountain West (Fresno State and Hawaii). The problem for C-USA is what to do with Saint Louis and Charlotte. Sources say C-USA could nudge them to a welcoming Atlantic 10 (a better fit for the two non-football schools if DePaul and Marquette bolt).
  20. Mizzou is the only good team they play non-conference at home and Louisville is the only exciting conference opponent. They also play SLU, UAB and Charlotte at home but all in all I'd be ticked too.
  21. Right now you have a point guard and 2/3 guard that will have no problem qualifying. We are hoping to land a power forward in Shaw who also will have no problem qualifying. If we get Shaw that is a solid 3 local players. It would allow you to take a risk on a Liddell or a juco and it wouldn't be the end of the world if he didn't qualify or had to Prop 48 it. Given our problems in the past couple years with 2 guys not qualifying and two others flunking out I am very glad to see Brad recruiting guys like Polk, Shaw and Meyer who will be 4 year players, and good ones at that, barring injuries.
  22. First of all our back is against the wall here, so any type of proactive work has to be considered good. Secondly, this article suggests that there really is a coalition between the 4 schools, something most of us thought was all but dead a week ago. Finally, this guy may be the one in charge of creating the new conference we have talked about for so long. Ask yourslef this, why would all four of us hire this guy if his goal was to send Marquette and Depaul to the Big East, charlotte to the Atlantic 10 and leave SLU out in the cold. That could all happen without him. His goal is most likely to keep all of us together OR make sure we ALL end up happy.
