  1. Sincerely, Giveaway EVERY game. VERY Doable. Doesn't have to be bobble head every night. ....but they don't hurt...and if you give that away...it needs to be one the masses would want...a recent standout...etc...or perhaps Larry Hughes bobble head night for example.... T-shirt with standout player's number on back and SLU on front, to all customers. All kinds of other things...big or small to mix in with big items. ...at the game....the events at half time need to be REALISTIC....meaning...Half court shot make wins an RV, 3 pointer wins 10k tuition help for student...one shot....etc.... Market your environment and game to CURRENT STUDENTS AND YOUNG ADULTS. ....sure make it family friednly and we can never forget the blue hairs...but the most under-represented fan at SLU games is the current student and younh alum young adult fan. PRIORITIZE this. ......SLU games need more energy more young adult appeal....we have enough for the little kiddies and families..... HAVE A FEW PEOPLE GO TO HIGH PROFILE GAMES AT OTHER SCHOOLS AND GET SOME IDEAS FROM THEM. SCOUT OUT HOW OTHERS DO IT. ....just a start. Thanks.
  2. You said in your other thread, that the probable best source for information was the Indy Star. I would disagree...and not only disagree, would add their coverage of the situation was very late to rpovide any investigative journalism, and after weeks, they put out a fluff 10 person guess/wish list without anything better than that. At that time and after all of that time...it took them a while to get going with any quality coverage. Since you are so familiar with Indy and IU ask your Indy friends their opinions. I never said I was all knowing. Some things I know and some I don't based on the situation and what first hand experience I have with the situation or people involved. In professional and colegiate sports, it happens to be some. I also didn't come on a message board to say ...see the tip I gave everyone was right, when in fact you didn't give one in the first place. As for IU's facilities....while having nice character, IU's hoops arena is outdated and so are some of their other facilities relating to the hoops program. In today's college hoops world you need everything you can to compete. I
  3. Gee...Dr. B.... You mean 9 out of the first 10 on the list you showed were never serious candidates, imagine that. The Indy Star has been a day late and a dollar short in this story from the beginning. Few's name was peddled around thbe rumor mill well before last week and he was never a serious candidate. A "candidate" presumably is someone who has mutual interest between himself and the school.
  4. First, gee picking GM out of 4 teams left...wow go crazy out on a limb there buddy. 2nd...George Mason's AD was one of 8 AD's on the selection committee. Every time they were discussed, he ha dto leave the room.....but having their AD on the committee didn't hurt.
  5. ....continues to be pushed in the AZ media as one of many candidates for the ASU job. After Dixon used the offer as leverage for 7 figures at Pitt.... Former ASU guard Lionel Hollins wants the job, but is fall back candidate. Others mentioned have been Rick Majerus, ....ASU AD Lisa Love was Assistant AD when Majerus accpeted and refused USC job. Mark Turgeon because he was an assistant at Oregon for a while...but even they think that one is as far fetched as I do. Bennett's family lives in the area and he grew up in Mesa. Certainly not their top choice but he is in the mix. The new Ad is pushing for big upgrades and has big ideas....and ASU down for a long long time...certainly has potential imo as a program, in a good ocnference, and great are in which to live.....
  6. Western Illinois is coached by former SLU assistant Derrick Thomas.
  7. I agree about the Big East. Seton Hall for example would not beone....but as I said many of them would definitely be a step up...no question.... As for UK....they would look at people like Billy Donovan, Rick Pitino...etc....big time people first...to see if they would come....and likely they would get a more established big time coach to come in there at this point. Anderson even if he had a couple of good years wouldn't make that list. Maybe 5-10 years from now if he ahs great run at Mizzou. Then he could get into the mix. What I think you don't understand is....a LOT of well established coaches would come running for UK job if it opened today. This isn't the Eddie Sutton time anymmore.....They would go after and get a big time coach....maybe some would not leave their well established programs...but they would get somebody to do it. UK is top 5 job in America. Personally I like Tubby. I think he has been undervalued. He just needs more guys who can finish, and they are fine.
  8. Yeah Goat because jobs like UK are so easy to get. He would have no problem getting it. And no I wouldn't say ANY Big East school is a step up from Mizzou job....vertical as you put it. Yeah many are...but not all by any means.
  9. I would disagree with Roy on this....if I put myself in this situation. If I am Dentman....I didn't do my part to qualify....yes IL St. showed interest....etc...and others didn't. Contrary to what B-Law says Illinois recruited him hard after he went to prep school. The interest came later. When Dentman goes to prep school....and now other people have interest...who better fit my interests...I would gladly listen. Sure it is self-serving etc....but University life is business, big business. No hard feelings...but with a chance to go to better academic school, in better conference with better team....etc...it isn't much of an issue. It isn't as if coaches an duniversities don't use players for their success too.
  10. None of the above.... And, to anser immediate above post...if Anderson became Mizzou coach...and let's say did well....where exactly is he gooing to go? Maybe a lateral move, and Arkansas type....but he isn'tgoing to exactly due much better than a big power conference....middle of pacck team with possibilty for better.....etc....he isn't going to be HC at a UK, UNC, KU, Duke, UCLA type school.....so....where "better" is he going to go??? I realize Mizzou isn't doing well right now....but if it gets cleaned up and better...etc...it is a solid job....so where "better" is Anderson going to get.....? Lateral sure.
  11. I think it is a very good hire for them.
  12. I would think ANY team recruiting him wants hom to contribute RIGHT AWAY....he only has two years of eligibility.
  13. UCONN doesn't have the most likeable coach, or team...and many didn't like that Marcus Williams was eligible second semester after a short suspension.....easy to root for U Dub. .....Gotta finish stronger...decisions, protecting the ball, ....and obviously you have to at least overplay the 3 at end of regulation if not foul. 3 point play foul on Williams lay up....late silly foul etc... As for SEC...it has been undervalued all year nationally and on this board too....I would disagree for this year, hands down over B.E. comments from Molina... ....over Big Ten ...sure...not B.E....some good ball and good depth in SEC....bottom temas aren't strong, but 8 or so teams that are solid and can play...and I am sure Andy Kennedy will get in there at Ole Miss and do fine.
  14. Well in football the Big East will have 2 pre-seaon top ten teams next year. Coming off of their rout of Georgia at Georgia Dome in Sugar Bowl.
  15. It is my understanding they play Sat at 2pm for 5th place.
  16. First, Nova's guards are spectacular players, and a joy to watch. Getting late for some others to see them in person, but they very quick, very skilled, can shoot it, can rebound, can defend, very physical....etc... Let's settle down a bit with the MVC. N. Iowa had the best non-conference record in the league by far and their coach just left for the Big 12 school in the same state. The MVC was able move its way to an inflated RPI with scheduling and taking advantage of N. Iowa' couple of nice non-conference wins. The NCAA's are about matchups. The facts still remain that Bradley was very very fortunate to even make the NCAA's....based on their resume. The MVC had a nice season, and is a nice conference. They have some teams who can play with the big boys in the NCAA's. That number of teams who could play in a rough and tumble night in and night out league like Big East ...even Big Ten etc...most years...is very very few. Sure if you have a good solid team, and get a favorable matchup you can win one or a couple of games in NCAA....but that is a lot different than playing on road night after night against certain teams. Louisville for example, not their best year, but I don't think too many teams want or can go in there and win a lot of ball games...even on a down year for them. I was down for SLU to be in A-10 over MVC, haven't budged on that thought. Not once.
  17. Yeah...don't let facts or research or intelligence get in the way of your posts. So how long did you live in France?
  18. I don't think Crean nor any coach is above leaving a program. Crean sure did get himself a nice deal out of his situation....brand new facilities, huge contract....etc....so it would take a lot for him to leave. It would have to be a hoops school and a storied power...and also be a great fit in other areas.....I would add UCLA to that mix in theory, not current reality....as he talked with them a few years back too. Really very very few schools....but definitely some schools out there that would attract anyone. Anything less need not apply considering his current situation. He has it pretty good either way.
  19. No, I didn't imply Frank was wrong. I used the example of when he has been repeatedly wrong before....and went on to babble about how it is too easy for some media people to throw out names of people as candidates for jobs....without exactly any evidence of it. Miklasz at least just campaigns for people, wishful thinking list etc....and says so up front. Who did Frank cite as his source or sources that he is a candidate at IU. Maybe he is...but I have just seen this too many times too many places in the media...it is lazy and a joke. Andy Katz was asked on a recnt ESPN chat....about Crean, and he said, no I have no info that he is candidate here or there...but logically he should be.....huh??? So he mentions a guy's name...insert Crean, then every lazy local market media guy picks up on it eventually and just repeats it.... How about Katz' Alfrod info??? As for Crean...he would be qualified to be a candidate at IU, among others .....if he was interested in the job. It is presumed W is a candidate from Orlando.....presumed...and presumed there is one opther candidate not mentioned....and many think it is someone who's team is still playing in the NCAA....i.e. Mark Few, John Calipari etc.....now, I at least can say when I know something as fact....or not fact, or wishful thinking or whatever. I do not know IU's final candidate's and favoriet choices.
  20. For what it's worth, Frank C had Crean in the Mizzou mix repeatedly in past....couldn't have been more off....I wouldn't get your college hoops coaching insider info from Frank C. A radio guy can just say hey what about such and such and all of a sudden they are a candidate??? Even worse lazy media people will hear something like this from someone else, somewhere else, and somehow that means there is amutual interest and talks happeening or soon to be happening...documented sources etc....lol. I am a "candidate" at Mizzou and IU at this point.....all you have to do is say something on radio, tv or print media....no facts or sources....why not. Perhaps I will bring Roy, skip etc...in as assistants. And I'll hold an open tryout for walk ons and will take on Knight's kids in season 2 of Knight school....for the cash. I am however removing myself from consideration from the Nerinx Hall girls soccer job....I hear they are looking.
  21. Marquette guards by committee...and play 10 guys most years. Depends on the matchup....I remember 7 foot Kinsella guarding Hibbard, and 6'10 Barro getting a crack as well. Gotta mix a LOT of zone vs G-Town, they are HUGE up front. Different guys different games....different matchups. Novak is an easy knock as is Maqruette on this board, and I have openly ripped B-Law's assertion that Amoroso would be their inside answer this year....conveniently he has avoided that one all year....when I thought Marquette was just one inside player from top 25......they proved me wrong somewhat as they were that level and didn't need one....but having one sure would have helped them against Bama early on.... As for Novak....different player this year period. If you didn't see him offense/defense/rebounding....all improved, more aggressive, leader...almost won Big East player of year..1st teamer....other awards....NBAdraft.net has had him anywhere form early 2nd round to late 2nd round draft pick. ......point is these things wouldn't happen if he was a one dimensional player, and/or a very limited player. He did a lot of different things this year for them. Can't exactly go on a one game matchup one year....etc....as I recall being at that ugly game at Savvis last year, he was about the only player on either team who could score. .....But even then lights out in a lot of areas....quicker release, more aggressionl, put it on floor, shooting off of dribble, creating space...occasional low blocks...ten times better rebounding....and led a very very young team to NCAA and 4th in B.E....being only upper classman who plays a lot....I have always liked his game and potential(so did KU, Florida Il, etc...out of high school)....and he really put it together this season in diferent areas.
  22. ....I know Marquette has been looking at some Juco "bigs" as well. How reliable is your source Roy? If that Amoroso kid transfers....Marquette will have two available spots not yet spoken for....possibly a shooter and a big for them? I know they want/need both...with all of those younger guys who can get to basket for kick outs. Crean is a big believer in shooters with size....Novak, Fitzgerald, among others... As for Crean....I thought he was going to Ohio St? Illinois? UCLA? what did I leave out.... Andy Katz does this EVERY year, starts the Crean rumors....some say he is close enough to Crean to be in the know....others say he does it because he is a graduate of the rival school, U of Wisconsin. ....i.e Crean makes $1.65 million now at Marquette....Bo Ryan makes $400k base not including all his tv/radio, shoes etc...and so on ...which is a lot of money...but not Crean money....so people like to chide Katz for never mentioning Ryan's name and always mentioning Crean's name....(obviously Ryan isn't leaving WI)...And so eventually everyone has Crean going somehwere after this starts. It is yearly for them. I highly doubt it, but you never know. the difference nowadays....is that Crean has the MONEY....extension, facilities, increased budget, sell outs....you name it ...soft media market like STL.....not a lot of incentive to leave. ...as opposed to when he at least interviewed at U of I etc...in past years. I would be surprised if Brad couldn't land Stemler.....a lot of folks showed later interest in him.....etc....but Obviously it wouldn't bother some on the board if Stemler didn't go to SLU....but he could help SLU.....and be another all important local recruit, and not local stiff.....more of which SLU needs. SLU still neds a big guy and athletes as well.....if this is true maybe he Stemler is sold on being able to slide in on NCAA team etc...Big East etc..with those young returning players.... I know Marquette had interest among those other schools, ...didn't know they offered or were "that" interested.
  23. Doc B.....the answer depends on your expectations for the program. No, SLU doesn't need to recruit the A-10 Frosh of the year each year....they aren't in position to recruit that well every year anyway. ...so it doesn't matter because it won't happen. However, SLU has had a long need to increase the quality level of a recruit. You mix in role players with higher level recruits, and hope to add a star every once ain a while or so. So, ...taking Lisch and Liddell for example....top 100 kids for sake of argument. These are kids who will get to play a lot their Frosh year and usually make mistakes early, get a lot better, make a lot of contributions to the team....on SLU which didn't have much else...they get to do even more than that. On other deeper teams, stil get to play a lot etc...and get expereince. Those kids usually start as Sophs...some do very well, some become more role player, solid player type...some stay same...junior and senior years, these kids are go to guys on a team. SLU isn't in position to recruit two top 100 kids each and every year. It won't happen. ...not for a while. BUT....in order for SLU to get better and beccome a top 25 caliber level team or close to it....they will need to recruit a Liddell and Lisch level player every couple of years. If not, this jump/improvement of hwere SLU falls in the pecking order will NOT happen. Recruiting is tough business. Obviously some of your players each year are there to fill a role, shooter, rebounder, ball handler etc...and so on......and you recruit for talent, and you recruit for need. No, you cannot just have kids who take their first two years to develop....although this is the majority of kids out there, and people don't get that. In today's college hgoops, you need a kid or two who can play right away, for the experience. Lisch and Liddell struggled at times this year, or early in the year, ....and they were top 100 caliber kids...Only the dream recruits are phenominal when they walk on campus as Frosh...and sadly some of those kids exist at top hoops schools iwth regularity....so in order to crack into the level a lot of people on here aspire SLU to be.....SLU for example....will need to add 1-2 promising players in HS class of 07, to maintain momentum of the class two years prior.....this is assuming the class in between, say ...doesn't pan out. It is tough to do...and no it doesn't need to be every year, and it won't be....but SLU needs to upgrade the quality of recruit...even the kids who take a year or two of bench time. And Brad has to do a good job of finding under the radar talent early on in the recruiting process. When these Frosh are seniors, and they have a the new arena...if SLU can be a winner, combined with all of that excitement, it is built in momentum for some local/regional quality recruits to look hard at SLU. If SLU say, ...dogs their next couple of classes and all they have are Lisch and Liddell, while nice, that isn't enough. Getting quality kids every few years has to happen. A lot of schools out there obviously get top 100 kids sprinkled in with role players...and if SLU wants to be a top 25 caliber team, they will need to get into the mix....have done so with Lisch and Liddell...so they can also add under the radar talent, ....shooters, rebounders...etc..wh can play....but there will always be a need every few years for a Lisch or Liddell level player...no not every year...but every few years...if SLU is to approach that level.
