  1. >I see your charter membership in "hate America First (but >only after Bush)" is still in force. You know what I want? >Iwant a bumper sticker that says "He's still better than >Gore and Kerry" and he is...... I want a bumper sticker that says "The majority of Americans now hate America first"
  2. >What reason do we have to believe that SLU is in good >position to garner the high-level recruits in the area? Not >being negative, just wondering if people on this board have >heard some things from these players or those close to these >players. > >This season is really going to say a lot as far as our >chances with these kids. If we have a mediocre season I >would think you could kiss these kids goodbye, but if this >team does something special it will show these kids that >they can be part of a program on the rise in their hometown >and give us a legitimate chance to sign them. Well said. It's time to make the Big Dance. That's the best way to help recruiting. This is a huge year for Soderberg. He's gotta do it during Ian's final year. That will help convince the top locals that we can build a program that has a legit shot of making the tourney every year.
  3. We started seeing the Mizlosers go to the well with this tactic about a year ago when there was seemingly a scandal a day for Mizzou. It seemed like a way to divert attention away from the Mizzou embarrassments and a way to try to get under Roy's skin, which seems to work much of the time. Every few months the Mizlosers seem to get together and dust this tactic off hoping to bait Roy. While getting under Roy's skin may be fun , this act has grown old. A pi$$ing match between Mizzou and Illinois on a Billiken board seems ridiculous. Oh well, if it keeps people entertained prior to the opening tip, so be it. It can't be any worse than commenting about politis. Now that would lead to the end of civilization.
  4. > >>OJ have you heard any news about Alexander? > >I haven't heard anything that I can comment on. If we don't land this kid or don't have anybody in the bag this fall, I'm afraid I will inch closer to the recruiting doom and gloom crowd. Come on coach. Let's get it done.
  5. >But you will accept corruption at the national level... > >Without the off-season board and with the foley scandal i've >got to let it out somewhere. Come on now. The offseason board was just dandy when there was a lot of chest thumping about the Iraq invasion and those who dared question its merits were labeled as part of "the hate America first" crowd. The level of discourse was so much more civil back then. Ah the good old days.
  6. I agree. This sounds like an outstanding addition if true. I only wish we had gotten a player like this to play alongside Ian for this year. As I stated in the spring, this is exactly the kind of juco player I thought would have been a perfect addition to last year's recruiting class. Dang it! Oh well, let's hope the three frontcourt frosh exceed expectations this year.
  7. Rich, I think Louie Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World" should be playing in the background. At least we can always bond on ripping the Mizlosers. That's a much nastier enemy than us liberals.
  8. > You are right that particular team wouldn't be considered >"in shambles" what was in shambles was the prospects for the >next few years due to the recruits and young players leaving >on short notice. I'm not going to name them ... we all know >who they are and who left. > > Law ... don't pretend you are a SLU fan, some of us who >have been around awhile remember when you caught trashing >SLU on another board. I don't remember which one probably >Marquette's. We also remember you basically admitting it. > > Official Billikens.com sponsor of H >Waldman You nailed it. Law was caught on the Marquette board mocking SLU and in particular Polk. About a month or so later Polk and the Bills stuck it to Law's beloved Marquette on their home court.
  9. >Dude, lighten up. I did not attack a candidate or poster >but am mearly tired of the negativity already. If you find >my post offensive either lighten up or report it to a >moderator. If Steve or Thicks find it offensive, I'll be >shocked but I'll understand. I'm all for people lightening up and free speech. As I stated I won't go running to the principal. I'm not afraid of a healthy debate. The truth will win out in the end as it did in the Iraq War discussions on here. That's why some wanted to suppress it. I certainly didn't find your comment offensive. I just find it amusing to see what topics are allowed and what are deemed out of bounds.
  10. >Not to worry Iggy, the headline was enough to convince me >that the Post is a little off as usual. At least the link >didn't take me to a "Jim Talent hates black people" >democratic senatorial campaign commitee web ad. > >Does anyone else hate it when Missouri is "in play?" Another political comment. I won't go running to the principal like alumnifan would. I guess the only thing that is not allowed is stating an opinion about the Iraq War that is now shared by the majority of Americans.
  11. >Here is my entire post. > >"This has the potential to be a big problem. > >If AB gets the Vashon job I am wondering what his feelings >are for his Alma Mater after we pretty much forgotten him. >We better get Powells verbal soon or we can kiss another >recruit good-bye. > >Let's hope AB doesn't fall into the SWIC Campo group." > > >The key phrases in my post are potential, wondering and >pretty much. Not really what one would consider definite >accusational words. But if you feel they were that's fine >too. It really looks like you were grasping at straws to try to find a "potential" problem clearly doesn't exist.
  12. I do agree that player development is huge when you don't get big time recruits. That's one reason I am a big believer that we should eventually try to use all of our scholarships, use a few red-shirts and transfers to develop an experienced, mature roster.
  13. >Well, as I explained on another thread before being blasted, >I do expect this year to be much better but its the years >after that I worry about. I worry because I think our >recruiting has been way below average since the day after >Kevin oralled to us (2.5 years ago) and I think these >recruiting failures will cost us in future years. Think >about the recruits we have signed since then and tell me >which are going to lead this team in the future (Obi, DM, AK >and HD). > >My solution would include hiring an assistant that is known >for his recruiting. Jamal Walker is hopefully a step in the >right direction but that remains to be seen. > >All I know is no program can truly claim a long term plan >and that the team on the right track when the majority of >your recruits are late signings in the spring to plug holes >in the line-up. > >We all are hopeful that Powell signs with us or the juco >that was visiting Wisconsin because other than that it >sounds like we are looking towards the junior class and >crossing our fingers. Kshoe is right on the money. The recruiting since Kevin and Tommie has been a concern. A strong recruiting class in the fall and making the Tourney will quickly erase those concerns.
  14. >I have no reason for not replyng to the Vashon thread. If >you remember correctly I was a proponant of AB to getting >back into coaching as a possibble assisitant at SLU. Then >the child custody issue was reported and peolple started >bailing on the AB and SLU reunion. I don't think SLU has >been very good it making sure AB feels like a permenat part >of the family. Hence my comments about hoping the >relationship is good becuase if it is not SLU's looses a >great resource for talent. You declared SLU "had forgotten" him. Others refuted that point. Apparently you had nothing to back up that claim.
  15. >Shelti, I like your response much better this time. Rather >than spending time defending points that can't be defended >you elect to call people names. Anyone that has a different >vision for SLU basketball and challenges the Kool-Aid club >are now referred to as haters. > >You and Rich can take your ball and go home but as long as I >contiue to follow the Billikens I will expect the best and >not settle for medocrity. > >Rich next time I elect to post just go on by because you >really don't have anything to contribute to a basketball >discussion. Now if we get into a game of name calling you >will be the first one I call. Bottomss up! > >More kool-Aid anyone? I am hardly a "kool aid" drinker and there is a shred of truth in some of the criticisms you state, but you are losing credibility big time by not responding to the Vashon thread. You threw out a theory that several people have refuted. It looks like you are not willing to back up your claim. That was a careless accusation if you had nothing to back it up with. Are you a SLU fan who wants to see the program do well and is offering constructive criticism? Or are you just another flamer like some of the Mizlosers we've seen on this board? I'm starting to wonder.
  16. >Kshoe that is exactly how I remember the Robertson >situation. And to be honest we have done alot worse than >Troy the past five years. > I sure hope in the next 5 years, we can't look back and say we've done a lot worse than Troy Robertson. That's a depressing thought.
  17. >I don't care how you spin it. 6'6- 8 points a game isn't >usually gonna cut it for me. A guy who is being recruited by Wisconsin isn't "gonna cut it" for you?
  18. >6'6" and 215 lbs and 8 ppg and 5 rpg doesnt give me "beast" >impressions. Those aren't bad numbers for a JUCO freshman on a very talented team. The fact that he is going on a recruiting trip to Wisonsin leads me to believe that he is good enough to play for us.
  19. Did somebody say simpleton?
  20. >phan, are you tommy timmy? > >it fits. you know very little about basketball and >particularly the billikens, you are a flaming liberal like >most newpaper people, and you religiously defend tommy timmy >and the post dispatch and their worthlessness. Roy, it seems like you are turning this political. Isn't this the same thing you complained about others doing? Wasn't that one of your main justifications in getting rid of the offseason board? You consistently take jabs at "liberals", yet complain about current events discussions when someone takes a shot at a conservative or merely expresses an opinion about the Iraq war that is now shared by more than 60% of Americans. Practice what you preach. Maybe I should run to the principal like a couple of you guys did.
  21. >>Laclede's offered more >>of a club-type feel. Their Happy Hour was always a good >>time, 2 for 1 appetizers and drinks and karaokee. At night >>it was a good place to go and dance and let loose a little >>bit. Its hard for me to believe that another bar could not >>survive around SLU's campus. > > >Another 3 bars could survive on the campus. The problem is >the licensing and the available land. Lacledes has sucked >since 2003-2004ish. They are constantly and chronically >understaffed on nights. It is not worth going there and >waiting 15 minutes for a beer and trying to throw elbows to >get one. > >City Grille didnt last long. But that place was doomed. They >took forever to open, the original owners sold to someone >after htey ran outta money, and they employed a bunch of >morons. Their service sucked, their food was always bad, and >I do believe they got tagged for having underagers in there. >The building may be cursed. > >Maybe once the arena starts up, it will spur some >development on that end of campus. I met a guy a year or two >back saying he was planning on building a microbrew type >place at the corner of Compton and Market? I don't know if >that is/was/ever was planned or not? > >Boccardis would be an awesome place for an actual bar. When >they started the $10 all you can drink friday nights, it was >the place to be. The problem was they can only be open til >midnight. > >How about kicking the queers to the curb at Mags and opening >a stretch of real bars there? That seems like the only >remaining building option directly adjacent to the campus? It's disappointing that some of the hate speech and borderline racist stuff we've seen in recent weeks has been allowed to stay on the board, yet a comment about a war that now more than 60% of the American public is against is considered unacceptable speech.
  22. >Ace is aparently operating with the same hyperactive, >paranoid outlook shared by the ACLU and Rainbow Push..... Isn't this comment a political comment?
  23. >Whatch out Rich...he's a "gangsta". He may bust a cap in yo' >a$$... Wow. I guess borderline racist posts like this are ok?
  24. Thanks thicks. I was pretty sure alumnifan's claim was false. I am glad to hear that Steve's decision was his own and not swayed by those who no longer wanted to talk current events because their President had taken a nose dive. Thanks for offering the board and I look forward to the start of the season! I think it's going to be a good one.
  25. >>Well thanks for putting words in my mouth. I never said I >>didn't like the way this site was managed. I respect any and >>all decisions STEVE makes. >> >>My point is, after enough people cried and complained, Steve >>got rid of the offseason board. It was like with Vtime being >>banned. There are some long time posters on here who cried >>about Vtime to the point where Steve felt he had to do >>something. > >I'm pretty sure Steve made the decision independently and >when HE was sick and tired of the outcomes of the >experiment. I know that I NEVER said one single word to >Steve about the off-season board before he took it down. I >usually didn't read it. I almost felt like I was shirking >my duties as moderator for not reading it. > thicks, alumnifan claimed that he was having a behind the scenes dialogue with Steve about the offseason board right around the time it was disbanded. There certainly were crybabies lobbying Steve about the offseason board. "I think that Steve, if he is honest, can also attest to this. He put in place the "For the Time Being..." thread several hours after ACE attacked me on the main board calling me a "rabid dog". The postings are archived in more than one place. I know that Steve specifically responded to ACE saying the he was "not at all" the reason for the change, but I respectfully challenge this assertion using the PRIVATE and public factual dialogue that took place regarding this as evidence. I will respectfully defer to Steve for any comment in the event that anyone challenges this assertion."
