Actually they do care about money. They notoriously underpay coaches. Lavin was very interested in UNLV but they wouldn't come close to his asking price. As for Beard, it seems like he could use this episode to show just how committed he is to Tech - he paid $1 million to go there.

If he met the requirements for a medical hardship waiver, having played before the halfway point of the season and in fewer than 30% of the games in the season and was ruled out medically he'll get it. The medical records are key, they have to say he had to shut down because of the injury.

the PE thing hasn't been the case for years. There has been a limit on the number of PE credits that can be transferred. Any JUCO with a history of placing kids at D1 schools knows the rules. The core is the issue because JUCO's have to have 40% of their degree requirements completed upon entering so the core courses are outstanding which adds to the number of credits needed to be completed to graduate. It's not the number of credits they transfer in it's what they need to get their degree. As for freshmen, if SLU is not admitting athletes based on qualifier status only that's a nice change from the past when ability to actually succeed in school if admitted was taken into consideration.

I will say this. A buddy who runs a sports news website broke the news about a coaching hire....only to have that coach change his mind the next morning. So he was correct before he wasn't. Who knows what's going on.

It's a different time than when Romar took the job in 1999. For one, SLU now has a new and modern facilities. They also have a legit recruiting budget. Also, the increased TV coverage plays a factor. Kids can go to a school far from home and their families can still watch them in almost every game whereas in the past that wasn't possible. Izzo once talked about a top player from abroad choosing UCLA over Michigan State because UCLA was on TV more and his parents could watch him (this is in the late 90's.). Not the case anymore.

Damn good point. We've read $1.5 to $2 million. First, where did people get those amounts, and second, if Drew were making $300,000 at Valpo why would we be bidding against ourselves to give the guy a $1.7 million raise and pay more that double what the highest paid coach in the A10 currently makes> Now it is certainly possible the numbers are correct but likely the amount available for the entire coaching staff, not just the head coach.

not all the time. Martin doesn't even have a contract after 2 years at Cal. A school like Okie State has no financial limitations to deal with, schools that do often get hung up on buyouts, assistant salaries, etc. It depends on the agent too.

OKC has another 2 months left in its season, Grant won't take any college job, especially with Monty Williams's situation. It kills the chances for any NBA assistant to take a college job right now. They're all under contract too. Johnson is mediocre. Hasn't done anything at Fairfield since leaving Princeton, no ties to the Midwest.

May wants a head coach. Don't blame him on that.
