I’m old. But unless my memory has gone full Biden, this is the second game when Curcic got good minutes we built good leads. Now he sits for the last 5 minutes and gets minimal minutes after he stretched our first half lead. WTF Travis? Play the guy!

Here’s what I don’t get about the BOT. No doubt the primary purpose of SLU is to educate. But that’s the primary purpose of every university worth its salt. But SLU is in  competition for applicants with every major college in America. And that’s where athletics come into play. College sports gets just about every school, other than the Ivy’s and a handful of others, more recognition than any area of academic achievements. For example, look at Notre Dame in little old South Bend, IN. How many kids who go there can name one academic or scientific breakthrough that school has made? But ask them what they’re noted for and it’s FOOTBALL! It’s fun to go there for the FOOTBALL! Take Gonzaga, a little known small town school way out in the Far West boondocks. Suddenly they are a great BB school and applications go up and kids from all over the country are applying. The list goes on and on. But SLU had never recognized the importance of athletics as a marketing tool. I don’t get it. You’d think the BOT would be aware of this and put more resources into one of the major marketing tools available and increase the interest in prospective students. Finishing at the bottom of the A10 and not making the dance on a regular basis is doing little to enhance the school’s image.

How many years are left on this 10 year contract? I was under the belief he got the deal after the ‘19 season. If so it still has 5 years left after this year. So at $2.5mm we would hand him a check for $7.5mm to go coach at ND STATE FARGO? Is this the situation? If so, we’re effed. Unless a whale steps up to pay him to go away. I don’t see the BOT approving that buyout.

Just read the latest NYPost article on Pitino in a previous story knocking his players after a loss to Seton Hall. In this article he apologizes to his players and takes full blame for a disappointing season. So far this year Ford has taken no responsibility for the SLU dumpster fire. He consistently  rips the players for lacking toughness, conditioning, and fundamentals. Pitino did say fundamentals win or lose games and teaching them is the coach’s responsibility. Ford has never taken responsibility for his players lack of the fundamentals. It’s time he bellies up to the bar and takes the blame for his players not being able to compete at this level. Majerus teams were not stocked with 4 and 5 star players, but they sure as hell knew how to play the game. Sadly, Ford has never grasped this concept.

He’ll land a good broadcasting gig. His being a UK star and some minimal coaching success has for some reason earned him cred in the world of college hoops.

I read an article about DePaul and Ohio St firing their coaches in season. The reason cited was to hit the ground running come early March in hiring their new coach to give them a head start on mining  the portal. The article also cited that a few other schools may follow their lead but mentioned no names. Now if SLU takes its sweet time to replace Travis we may find ourselves at the end of the buffet line to pick over the scraps. If the decision has been made that Ford’s gone I  don’t see a good reason to keep him around thru season’s end. It would serve notice to the coaching community that we’re definitely on the hunt. Who knows it might cause a guy like Mack to express some interest. It might even get active coaches to give us a call. I doubt coaches would make these type of calls while Ford’s still employed where his firing is pure speculation. My big fear with our admin is they’ll take their time to make any decision on Ford, ie we’re reviewing it. And then take more time looking for his replacement. We’ve got to act quicker than that. First, to figure out who on our roster will stay or will enter the portal. Roster construction is important, duh, and will take a new guy some time to figure it out. The current admin doesn’t fill me with confidence they’ll do whatever’s necessary to land us a promising HC.
