  1. Agreed, he's here for at least another year, Footes. Doesn't mean you have to like it and just clam up. It's frustrating to see other programs, with less resources than this guy has at his disposal, to move forward while we stay stuck in neutral. But being anti Brad is not being anti SLU. In fact, it's the other way around, or at the least shows there's a lot of fan's who could give a whoop about SLU hoops.
  2. Am continually amazed at how many posters still hold UB unaccountable for his record at SLU. Biondi, TV, the A-10, cell phone bills, West Pine, loss of the school jet, blah ...blah... blah...blah. Meanwhile, we are looking back at two years of dismal recruiting and not enough player development that have resulted in 3 years of mediocrity. When is enough enough?
  3. Hey, how can you deny your mother? C'mon, Jeff, sign up with SLU.
  4. UB has to surround TL, KL, and LM with a legit PF and a PG for starters. Our bench is still not deep enough with DP, DB, and the two untried frosh DM and AK. Is BH any kind of an answer at the 5? To my way of thinking, too many question marks exist to predict post season play for next year. '08-'09 who knows? Yes, TL and KL are seniors, but as of today we have a roster full of unknowns. Since UB has taken over, SLU enters every year with a bunch of question marks or "if this happens or if this player develops". With this type of outlook, how can you justify a forecast for post season play?
  5. Nah, his defense wasn't up to UB's standards. He would have rode the bench had he come here.
  6. Overall, pretty fair evaluation, Toopac. I'd give JJ a c-, mostly for an upbeat attitude, but the kid just never seemed to get it. Also, IV seemed a different player after his benching, so I'm going with a C+ for him. It was there all year, he just didn't reach for it soon enough. He was the key for us having a great year, and he didn't show until the last 4-5 games. I think the NBA experience was not a good thing for him and may have been a discouraging factor. Totally agree on UB's grade. The man is just not getting it done here, and unless there are some spring time knights in shining armor, we're in for a long '07-'08 campaign. The A-10 is getting better.
  7. SLU coeds sunbathe in bikinis these days? My things are looking up on Grand Ave.
  8. Brian, you think we dislike UB so much, we'd take a cheap shot at him for actually landing what sounds to be a really good player? Not I. As stated before, he only gets bashed for what he loses; be it winnable games, expected good seasons, or signable recruits. A signable recruit? Anyone he goes after who is not being hotly pursued by a major, eg a 4 or 5 star is an unsignable. UB would get huzzahs all around if he signed one, I expect he won't, so no black marks if the kid goes elsewhere. I think that's more than fair.
  9. I will spew nothing but positives if UB signs this kid, who by the way said his decision may come this weekend. I don't care how UB does it, or how fate intercedes to his benefit. God knows, the guy deserves a break or two in this recruiting game. You mean it's not ok to throw puppies into the river?
  10. Ok, UB, he's outta there. Now here's your chance to steal a decent recruit whose ideal for SLU both athletically and academically. If this doesn't happen, it will be real interesting to hear why not.
  11. C'mon, Brian, Billikan said great players. I know of only two who could fall into that category: TL and KL. I just thought Billikan was being overly gushy about our current roster. It sounded like he meant we were stocked with great players. Which we know, all too painfully well, we are not. I am not trying to subvert UB's chances with any player. Cripes I hope he pulls a Sampson and convinces Tyus to decommit to Billy the Kid.
  12. I think the attraction for the major players, 5 stars, is obvious. UNC, Duke, etc. keeps their name in lights and on some TV every game. I also think because of AAU summer ball these kids all know one another. I'm sure there's a bragging/prestige factor at work. By that I mean if you say I'm going to SLU, your buds may laugh and say "where's that or who are they?". UB's got to mine the 2-3 star local kids for now who have potential for getting better. Too many of his recruits, JJ, DB, DP for example, seem to languish in mediocrity while they're at SLU. Either he's not getting thru to them, or they just don't give a damn.
  13. I started a thread on it a couple of days ago, Schasz. But people ignored it probably because they thought it was another of my Bash Brad pieces. Good show. I thought Brand came across as an idiot. I'd rather see Reggie Miller as president of the NCAA.
  14. UK fans and administration wanted Tubby gone. Very simple fact was he wasn't landing enough talented classes to compete with the top 10 programs, and UK definitely sees themselves as a top 10 program. This was a good move for all involved. UK didn't fire a guy who took them to a national championship, and UM got a class act for a coach. Who replaces him is going to be fun to watch. One would think UK could have their pick of the litter, but will it be that simple? How much more $$ can they shell out for a proven successful D1 head coach? Calipari turned down NC State because he thought it would be too tough to recruit against his next door neighbors Duke and UNC, but even then NC State wasn't offering him a whole lot more than he makes at Memphis. Calamari is very well paid. The thing that might appeal to him would be the lure of the SEC vs the greatly watered down CUSA. I don't think Gillespie's going anywhere. His strength is Texas, home grown and bred. He might be a fish out of water in Lexington. Pitino? Doubt it now that UL's in the Big East. If you made a list of the the top 10 coaches in the country, you don't come up with many that are probably not satisfies with their current position and are all compensated very nicely. But Rick Barnes at TX gave NC State a hard look last year, I wouldn't be surprised to see him jump to KY, w/ Calipari next. Top D1 coaches is a very short list.
  15. Broy, you are going to blame the ABC'ers for losing recruits? Are you laying the groundwork for some future UB excuse for seeing a kid sign elsewhere? I don't believe this...now we're going to be held accountable for 5 years of lousy recruiting? Bring her up Newt, we're heading for the Alfalfa!
  16. No less than that great guru of HS talent, our own Taj'Mahal79 has seen him and gave him a huge recommend. Loved him. Taj offer him a summer internship at the Pentagon if he signs up. Here's UB's selling points as I see it; Academics, we ain't no slouch and they're important to us. New Arena; Playing time; A-10 trips back east near Baltimore/DC; Two of the best guards in the conference/country TL and KL; Iowa's a great school, but whose the new coach going to be? C'mon, UB, for once beat someone out of a decent recruit....throw us a bone, so we can stop gnawing on your leg.
  17. If Pettigrew wasn't good enough for Tubby, unlikely he's going to be good enough for the new guy. Candidates anyone...does Slick Rick go back to UK? Barnes of TX? I'd be shocked if UK goes for a mid major like Marshall. They will obviously try and nab a big BCS name. This thing could have a hell of a ripple effect. Say they get Matta of OSU, not out of the question since UK's got a wad of cash to play with, OSU's got a wad of cash...who do they chase? Any one wonder why UB's name never comes up for any of these openings?
  18. I smell another Bash Brad session coming up. We're pretty sure we lost Walker and Correia....UB better give a hell of a sales pitch this weekend. By the way, he said he loved Iowa...not Alford. Show us some love, Jeff...
  19. Travis Ford to KY if they fire Tubby? All you Umass recruits better watch out...he's going to KY.
  20. Give me evidence that other coaches are using this site to discourage recruits. I'm going to start a thread above and hopefully this Mr. KY basketball will read it.
  21. WKY, UMass, and DU, vs SLU. Someone want to list the many advantages these three have over us for a kid who says I don't care about location, and his BCS school of choice wants him to be a walk on? It will be interesting to see where he ends up. These are the kind of skirmishes UB needs to win to my way of thinking.
  22. I'll say it again, UB got a pass for about 4 years. The Stemler deal started the crusade, the no signing of fall recruits got it rolling, the failure to make the dance or even the NIT put it into overdrive. Poster didn't non achieve all of the above, UB did. If you choose not to rip him, don't. But don't scream it's unfair when others do. As for Suggs, he's going to go with his most comfortable option. Most recruits will say on signing day, "I felt really comfortable with the situation at ABC U." What makes up that comfort zone is different for every recruit, ie the coach, the tradition, the campus, your girlfriend goes there, school location to parents, etc. The problem here is UB has to determine whether or not he's fighting a losing battle with Suggs. Take Roundtree or Femi John, and this is pure speculation on my part, did Roundtree go with SIU and has John not committed to SLU because of UB"s strong interest in Suggs? Now John's been offered but still hasn't signed is he afraid he'll play behind Suggs for most of career? Just a thought. And then if Brad loses Suggs to "better options", did he alineate John? Complicated business this recruiting, but I agree with Nate go after the lesser stars right now and develop them. Then the brighter ones will come.
  23. I agreed because to stop bashing Brad, at least until the spring signing period is over, because I know it's fruitless. Go to www.firetubby.com if you want a real over the top example of upset fans. All this love for a coach who bought them a national championship not too long ago. And you're pleading with people to stop attacking a guy whose done absolutely nothing in five years, and doesn't seem to be in a hurry to get it turned around. C'mon, Brian, this isn't the fault of disappointed fans...it's the fault of a disappointing coach.
  24. Great players? Billikan, besides TL and KL where and who are these great players? Jeez, if we had great players we'd all be drinking kool aid tonight, because we'd be warming up for Thursday night's game.
  25. Maybe a better question is why can't UB and his staff get these guys to verbal or commit before the bigs get a shot at the leftovers?
