  1. How do I get invited to one of these conversations? They sound like a hoot! Do they charge admission?
  2. It’s been bizarre all season how so many announcers have been carrying water for Ford. Frankly, I didn’t think that people liked him that much, but it’s happened game after game.
  3. This season has been bad, and I have no reason to feel optimistic about the program in the coming years if Travis Ford is still in charge. Unless we have someone, or some people, out there to save us by paying the massive buyout after this season, how many years of bad basketball will we have to sit through?
  4. Putting this here in case we lose by double figures.
  5. The buyout amount may require this anyway, but if you get rid of May first, which may be the best option, you probably have to keep Ford for an extra year. It might take a few months to hire a new AD, which means that a current staff member will be the interim AD. You absolutely don’t want an interim AD negotiating a new basketball coach’s contract, especially an interim from SLU’s athletic department staff. Then the new AD can hire their own coach in a year.
  6. I asked if he had any eligibility left! As a side note, while I’ve heard good things about i3 (the company sponsoring that), it’s not available everywhere, including where I live. That could be a bit of a downer to think “I don’t have to pay for internet!!”, only to find out it’s not available at their home.
  7. What a bloody shamble that was. Just an unmitigated disaster.
  8. I noticed that too. Also, unless it’s changed in the last few hours, Carteare Gordon and all 3 of the players who were suspended/expelled and didn’t return from Situation 2 still had active profiles on the SLU site. But Dalger’s profile had to be scrubbed in less than 24 hours. With that noted, this could all just be SLU implementing a new “best practice” recommended by the new compliance director.
  9. Also a bit telling that he would contradict the narrative that SLU put out.
  10. If that’s an actual SLU soccer jersey, it’s likely from before 2000. It has an Adidas logo on it, and SLU has had Nike gear going back to at least 2002, when I started school there.
  11. Grant was hired by UD when he was an NBA assistant, but most of his experience was in college. Assistant to Billy Donovan at Florida, head coach at VCU, and head coach at Alabama. He was more of a retread hire than NBA assistant trying out coaching in college.
  12. I know the St. Joseph’s hawk mascot is a tradition, which I always enjoy seeing, but the fact that tonight we’re playing a team that flew a college student halfway across the country to don a hawk costume with sweatpants underneath and flap their wings/arms for 2-3 hours consecutively tonight appropriately adds to the silliness of this week.
  13. Exactly. Regardless of who the coach is, it is in SLU’s best interest to have a well-functioning NIL program. Does “NIL program didn’t have its ducks in a row, so we couldn’t get players” become another excuse like injuries, Situation 2, Covid, that kept us from making the NCAAs and is used as justification for giving Ford another year? Maybe, maybe not.
  14. On the radio show last night , Ford mentioned that people he knows from back in Kentucky reach out to him occasionally that they read something negative about him and offering to do something about it, to which he always quickly tells them not to do anything. I suspect that the SeanMcDonald account is one of those people.
  15. I think people have to care about you to be a laughingstock. We’re largely irrelevant. I’m not sure which is worse.
  16. There are some coaches that you can tell are well liked by national media. For whatever reason, I never really got the idea Ford was one of those coaches. I’m starting to think that I was wrong on that, because he really had that announcer today defending him.
  17. I don’t think there’s a postseason ban for Wade. There may be recruiting restrictions placed on him, which may apply, or that SLU would have to submit paperwork to argue that they shouldn’t have imposed on them. The other thing is that employing a coach on a show cause sets a school up to face more severe punishment from the NCAA if the coach is found to be in violation of NCAA rules while under the Show Cause.
  18. Overall I think this is a good list. Wouldn’t be a fan of Wade (show cause) and Huggins (old and other issues). Admittedly I don’t know much about 7-9. I don’t know how likely it would be that he’d be interested, but I’d feel out Pat Kelsey as an option. The big question is how competitive is SLU going to be with NIL. At the moment, we look to be behind. If we’re not going to compete at a good level in NIL, we need a coach who can identify (likely under the radar) talent and build a successful system, even as you lose players to transfers. I know we’ve brought up the Champions Center and how truly helpful it actually is for men’s basketball in the NIL era, but if we still end up being less competitive in NIL, the Champions Center still might be a plus for us in recruiting that under the radar kid who happens to fit into the right coach’s system. If most other schools zig, we may have to zag and put together the team that looks better in games than in the team picture.
  19. I regret nothing that I said about Crews 7-8 years ago. To his credit though, I don’t think Crews had a game that was as big of an unmitigated disaster as today was.
  20. I generally like Frank, but if this season really starts to go south, as it looks like it might, I might amuse myself by replying/quoting his SLU posts with things like “Nevertheless Frank lashed out at SLU fans last spring when they suggested that this was where the program was headed.” Also, I speculate that people inside the program knew that this team wasn’t going to be good, hence the lack of coverage or effort to be seen. Frank could just be following orders…if you don’t talk about the team, no one will know they’re bad.
  21. There’s no way that Frank C made this video without being told that somebody was pushing for Ford to be bought out.
