  1. The rehearsal part probably wouldn't have been too tough, but I did have questions about how someone was going to compose a quality song in 3 weeks. However, after reading more on this contest on the SLU SGA website, I noticed that all entries have to follow the tune of "When the Saints Go Marching In", which is already the SLU fight song. So basically all that is being accomplished with this is that new words, which no one will probably pay any attention to, will be added. Here's SGA's decision of the contest. http://sga.slu.edu/song.htm
  2. Kalicak is 6-7, listed a little over 200 lbs, and is much more of a wing. Actually, when I've seen him this season he's been used more as the primary ballhandler for DeSmet. As 3star posted, he's got skills. Ward is 6-6 225lbs. He plays in the post and is a 4 year varsity player, one of only 3 in the history of the DeSmet program (Matt Baniak wa the most recent one before Ward). He is a 3 year starter.
  3. No, I wasn't there. I made a couple of games over Christmas break, but once SLU was back in session it was very difficult to make any games, especially during the week since I don't keep a car on campus all the time. According to statsonline, that score is correct. I must say that I was very purprised myself.
  4. I would guess that the game would be shown on the Missouri side as well. Frank C. mentioned the game being shown during a stoppage in play the other night.
  5. Nate Robinson is a very special player. He absolutely brought down the house last night on that alley-oop The even more amazing thing is that he originally came to the UW to play football on scholarship. He missed the first part of the basketball season since football season hadn't ended, then after playing basketball for a season decided that he wanted to solely focus on basketball and dropped football altogether.
  6. The first two installments of stories on Willie Williams' recruiting trips to Florida State and Auburn have already bee discussed here. This week the Miami Herald came put with the story on Willie's visit to the University of Miami. http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sport...ool/7804726.htm
  7. That figure of 3,500 students living on campus is misleading and incorrect. According to the SLU web site, the university has a total of 7,178 undergraduates, 85% of which live on or near campus, which brings the total to a much more realistic figure of about 6,100. One thing to remember is that many students choose to live in the Coronado Building and Lindell Towers, which for those who don't know are two large apartment developments just across the street from SLU. Since students who live in these buildings are not officially living on campus, they are designated as commuter students by SLU. I would argue that for a student in the John Cook School of Business, living in the Coronado is closer to the business school than any on campus housing.
  8. Excellent article by Stu on student attendance. While it largely deals with student attendance, it also has a section on the lack of excitement shown by the rest of the crowd at Savvis. All in all, a very good and informative read. http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/sports/st...tudent+fan+base
  9. I was sitting there watching that segment just waiting to see what kind of anti-SLU garbage Tuna was going to spout out, but then to my shock he started commenting SLU and Soderberg. He went on about how great of a coach Brad was, then I was really shocked when Tuna praised Brad's recruiting and said that he had been incorrect in his previous assessment of Brad's recruiting abilities. Also, right after that ended, I switched over to Sports Final on KMOV and they had a nice, long piece about Soderberg by Tim McKernan.
  10. We didn't use the big signs for the USF game because we play Green Acres during the visitor's starting lineup if their uniforms are green, which USF's were. Also, Roy, while the national anthem yesterday wasn't good, it was a lot better than the one at the women's game friday night. At halftime we were going to play Vehicle with the vocals, but we weren't able to do that because the choral group sang for too long, then Mike Owens had to read the halftime stats and other announcements, so we only got to play for about a minute or two at halftime.
  11. When I was reading the UAB board earlier I saw a mention that Demon Brown has a sprain of either one of his fingers or his right hand. If this injury persists, then his shooting might not be at the same level it normally is at.
  12. The thing that we don't like is that Mike Owens reads off the announcements soooooooooo slooowwwwlllyyy. While Guy Phillips is obnoxious, at least he gets through the announcements quickly. What it comes down to is that we want to get to play our songs, and you can tell that when Guy is doing the PA, we get to play more than when Owens is doing the PA. I've seen the arguments that if Owens was the full time PA, then he would read through them at a quicker rate, but I don't buy it. I remember being young and going games at the old Kiel Auditorium and Mike spoke just as slowly as he does now. Another point of frustration yesterday was with the choral group that performed at halftime. We were told that they would stop singing with 8 minutes left in halftime. They ended up stopping with 3 or 4 minutes left, then Owens took up another minute or two, so we basically were shut out of halftime.
  13. I was a huge fan of Pitino when he was the coach of UK. If he was coaching almost any other team in the nation, then I would probably be a big fan of that team. I just can't in my heart root for Louisville, Pitino or not.
  14. If there was a way that both teams could lose, then I would want that to happen. To me this is the Conference USA Axis of Evil Bowl. Should be a great game though. Because the game is at Freedom Hall in Louisville, I have to give the edge to Pitino's Cardinals.
  15. ESPN showed the replay of what happened during a break in the Texas-Mizzou game, and it looked like Travis faked a shot, then a Charlotte player jumped and landed on Diener's haed or neck. He was taken off the floor on a stretcher. On another note, I would appreciate any summaries from tonight's Tip-Off Club meeting
  16. The rivalry does go back to the Civil War. The citizens of Kansas had to vote on whether or not it they would legalize slavery in Kansas, and since Missouri was a slave state, a number of Missourians wanted Kansas to join them, so large delagations of Missourians crossed over the state line to fraudulently vote for slavery in Kansas. This is known as "Bleeding Kansas." There may be more to the whole thing, but that's all I can think of right now.
  17. If you read the first post in the thread, it says that the students did eventually find a way to the game by taking the Humphrey's shuttle. Yes, there are other ways for students to get to the games. The problem is that SLU guarantees transportation to games from campus for the students. The two things they mention the most in order to convince students to attend games are that each student can get a free ticket with their SLU ID and that they offer free transportation to each game. When they use the transportation as a key aspect in their marketing ploy and then find a way to screw it up, that wrong on SLU's part.
  18. Four very large signs were made, each needing an entire row of band members to hold it up. The first said "Barbara Berger from Chesterfield, MO." The others said "who cares?", "who's that?", and "go home!" They were held up during the announcing of Southern Miss' starting lineup in addition to the normal signs we use.
  19. If I had to guess, I would say that it all has to do with SLU switching their bus service to games. Those of us in Band normally were taken to the games in the nice shuttle buses, until the Arizona game when some school buses showed up. That day the Blue Crew and other students going to the game weren't picked up by the buses, plus there were no buses there for the Band after the game. Apparently now Band members are supposed to take the school buses to Savvis, so I'm guessing that the school bus drivers are just taking the Band to the game and not realizing that they are supposed to make another run. This is inexcusable and heads need to roll for this. The Athletic Department needs to be confronted about this.
  20. Great pickup by the Kickin Kangaroos. In other transfer news, I just saw that Michael Thompson, the former Duke player and McDonald's High School All-American from Chicago, decided to transfer to Northwestern University.
  21. The name of the place in the BSC is Wackadoo's. I would think that they do have Charter, considering that Charter is the cable provider for SLU. I haven't watched any games from there, but I think I remember being in there one night when there was some SLU game on Charter.
  22. BlueCrewPres if the trip is open to students who aren't Blue Crew members, then I would definitely be interested in coming along. I'm a student at SLU and am a member of the Band.
  23. Truman State is a very good school and a great value. I would consider it to be the crown jewel of the state schools in Missouri. The one big drawback that I see though is that it is located in Kirksville, MO, which is a place that I wouldn't want to spend 4 years of my life. I personally have never been there, but I've heard that it is very desolate. If you can stand to spend that much time there, then it's a great deal. As for ACT scores, while I'm not sure what Truman's average is now, but SLU's was around 26-27 when I was looking at schools two years ago.
  24. Alex Tyus is a 6'7 sophomore wing for Hazelwood Central. He plays with Kalen Grimes and Aaron Jackson. I would say that he is the best sophomore in the area, including Jared Leonard, who I think is really good too. Apparently schools all over the country already know about Tyus.
  25. SLU does have KSLU, but it's not really a real radio station. It doesn't have a signal that goes beyond SLU, and it isn't actually on the radio. It can only be found on the televisions on the SLU campus.
