  1. Game's at 6 pm on Tuesday night at the Family Arena. Winner will play the winner of the Purdue-Notre Dame game. Will Savvis be open for the second round?
  2. I originally thought you were putting down Weber too, but then I re-read your post and noticed that you were only complimenting Coach Brad, saying that he was a sincere, not full of BS coach.
  3. BillsWin, you were probably pretty close to where I was in line tonight. I got there around 7:45 or 7:50 and to my surprise saw the very long line go from the entrance to the Maryville gym all they way past and around the building next to it. Eventually they let those of us who were still there at halftime go in after they re-assessed the attendance situation, so I got see the second half. I couldn't see all that well because I'm only 5-7 and I had to stand in the end zone area with about 3 or 4 rows of people in front of me, but I was impressed with the little bit I saw from Polk and Meyer. My opinion, along with quite a few others who I talked to while in line, is that playing a state quarterfinal game at Maryville was an extremely DUMB move on the part of MSHSAA. It was so bad that Borgia had organized a bus to take their students to go see the game, and after the kids travelled in the bus from Washington to St. Louis (which they apparently had to pay to ride), they couldn't get in the gym and ended up leaving. Maryville's gym is barely bigger than most high school gyms. Maybe in a few years the SLU arena will be able to host such an event.
  4. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the gane tonight has no bearing on SLU seed in the tourney-they have already clinched the 7th seed.
  5. Steve, I'm not sure of where exactly the Band will be staying, but I'm pretty sure that we are staying somewhere in Covington, Kentucky. It is right across the Ohio River from Cincinnati. Things might be a little cheaper over there and still very close to U.S. Bank Arena.
  6. Billiken Law's right. I knew about Minnesota in the late 90's, but hadn't heard nor actually thought about any of the others that he mentioned.
  7. Yeah, I'll be there as part of the SLU Band contingent.
  8. According to STLToday's Prep Sports section, Meyer scored 28 points in the victory.
  9. I remember watching a game in the College World Series a year or two ago and the announcer mentoned that one of the teams only had one or two players on their team on full scholarship. I'm pretty sure that it was said that this was the norm. If I had to guess, I'd say that it's similar to the scholarship system at SLU for soccer, where only 9.9 scholarships are available to be distributed amongst the entire team. By the way, SLU defeated Creighton 8-2 in the game today.
  10. I was in the front and could not hear the sound from the game.
  11. You were lucky with the service at Wackadoo's. I ordered my food a couple minutes before tip-off and received my food just before halftime. The Band ordered his food during the first half and didn't get his food until well into the second half. I got to be one of the judges for the fight song contest, so that was fun.
  12. SLU beat Tulane last year in double overtime at the Savvis. It was part of the winning streak at the end of the regular season. Tulane had numerous chances to win, but Marque Perry came up big, among others late in regulation and in both overtimes. Tulane did beat SLU in the first round of the 2002 C-USA tourney, a week after the Billikens defeated the Green Wave in New Orleans.
  13. SGA elections take place on Monday and one of the big issues is the BSC. While the building is definitely new and modern looking, the consensus among students is pretty much that it is more of a conference center for the administration than a student center, which is problematic considering the name of the building is Busch STUDENT Center, not Busch Conference Center. The old Busch Center had a Chick-fil-a, Starbucks, as well as I believe a Pizza Hut. The new BSC has Wackadoo's(which I do go to sometimes), Au Bon Pain(like a Bread Co.), and the Grand Market (which I'm convinced is only open about 4-5 hours a day).
  14. Yep, Brad definitely did go over to the student section and thank them. It was the first time he had done that in his time at SLU.
  15. I caught one of those balls last night and considered tossing the ball into the student section since my family has caught a number of those over the years, but after seeing that idiot throw the ball on the court, I'm glad I didn't. Aside from that, I was very pleased with the turnout from my fellow SLU students. Hopefully we'll see more of it.
  16. After the game a Marquette player (not sure which one) kicked a door around the locker room area, leaving a dent in said door. I write for the University News, so I went to the press conference after the game. Normally those go pretty quickly and players and coaches from both teams go in and out pretty steadily. The order went SLU players, Coach Brad, then Coach Crean. After the SLU players and Brad sat down for a few minutes and talked to the press, I waited a few minutes for Coach Crean to come in. Well, my deadline was midnight, so after a few minutes of waiting I decided to leave so I could get my article written on time. I later heard that Crean eventually did come into the press room, but he would only answer questions from the Milwaukee reporter. When a reporter from St. Louis (may have been Stu) asked a question, I was told that Crean refused to answer the question and walked out. With these events in addition to the actions of Travis Diener, this was by no means a classy display by the Marquette basketball program.
  17. There are quite a few. You have the St. Charles schools, the Francis Howell schools, and the Fort Zumwalt Schools, plus you can't forget Catholic schools like Duchesne, and St. Dominic's. You can also include the Wentzville schools. St. Charles High School St. Charles West High School Francis Howell High School Francis Howell North High School Francis Howell Central High School Fort Zumwalt North High School Fort Zumwalt South High School Fort Zumwalt West High School Duchesne High School St. Dominic High School Wentzville Holt High School Wentzville Timberland High School
  18. Hundreds if not thousands of players are nominated for the McD's All-American game each year. A coach can nominate any player he wants. After nominations are given out, the list is then cut down. Luke was most likely nominated.
  19. I agree that most people at SLU don't think it is a commuter school. The only people close to SLU who seem to still think that it is dominantly commuter school are the commuters themselves.
  20. I don't think the enthusiasm is what annoyed some, it was that Lutz turned around and yelled at the crowd while very possibly pointing at them too. If Brad did the same thing at the Bradley Center and Marquette came back to win, you'd see the same thing on either of the Marquette boards. While I myself wasn't too upset about Lutz, I did find it to be poetic justice. If you watch the win over Louisville last year, Reece Gaines hit a three with two minutes remaining exactly on the the clock. You could see the Louisville players on the bench celebrating what they thought was a win. Then the Billikens began their comeback and pulled off the stunning victory. A couple years ago when SLU lost a close game to Mizzou in Columbia after leading for about 38 minutes of the game, Justin Tatum made a throat-slashing gesture after he dunked the ball to give SLU what seemed to be a solid lead they wouldn't blow. I remember reading Mizzou fans complain about the gesture and say how they enjoyed seeing Mizzou pull off the win, especially after that. Just poetic justice.
  21. The game was moved from Thursday to Wednesday because the Blues are playing the Tampa Bay Lightning Thursday night. When the game got moved, the television window was lost, and SLU was apparently notified after they printed their scheduling information.
  22. That would be hilarious if Welmer was the one who made the call. I'll have to watch a replay closely to find out.
  23. The time did run out on the first winner they drew, so they drew a second number, who was the one who didn't look excited.
  24. I have been saying for years that the crowds are ptitful, and this was just as bad as anyone. I'm not saying that everyone has to stand the whole game, but when people are sitting on their hands like they were tonight, that's awful. With the way Louisville fans travel, if the SLU "fans" are anything like they were tonight, the game will feel like it is being played in Freedom Hall, not the Savvis Center. BlueCrewPres, is there some way that the Athletic Dept. could let some of you guys go out on the court during a timeout, possibly with a microphone, and do something to get the fans out of their seats. If the Band happens to go on another stadium run like we did tonight, I will take that oppurtunity to let fans know that they should be on their feet.
