  1. I don't understand how he is from Civic Memorial, yet plays for Gateway?
  2. Leonard has a lot to prove this year, after not playing a minute this past year and not exactly being a star in the classroom either-the reason he left DeSmet.
  3. Nate, just a clarification-I'm 95% certain that Leonard has not been at DeSmet for quite a while.
  4. I seem to remember that Buzz P was offered the SLU job a number of years ago and opted to turn it down, waiting for something bigger and better. If so, then I think he might have made a mistake!
  5. Can those of you who have seen TL on a number of occasions give a comparison to Danny Brown. I have really been impressed with DB as the season has gone on. He is very athletic, a better than average shooter and an excellent defender. I have not seen enough of him to say anything about his passing ability. At the end of his FR year he seems to be a real find who is good for about 10 pts. per game. If TL is as good or better then I really like our team next year.
  6. Any word available on RB's brother and/or Reggies return to the team?
  7. Are any Board members aware of any free sites that have recruiting info, or do they all require membership? Not that I'm tight with the $$$, but I really don't have that much interest in the topic except for instances like here where it would be nice to go to a location and at least get some general info on a player who has been mentioned on this Board.
  8. Random thoughts: DB looked great-very smooth and confident with a decent outside shot that should get better as he plays more; Maybe AD's best game, BUT he cost us dearly with his turnover early in OT. It was nothing but carelessness and we needed to get a shot off every trip in OT; I know many Bills took turns on Withers, but IV showed what many (some) have been saying for a while is true--he just has no footspeed or quickness as he often was left standing in place as CW just went by him in the post. I'm sure BH would have had the same difficulty staying with CW. Too bad Char. (& CW) goes to the A10 with us next year. This shows how badly we need an athletic, quick 6'7"-6'9" four man who could defend a guy like Withers; Good game by LM, but he sure looks hesitant to shoot from outside. He just needs to get more confidence in his shot and learn how to shoot a jumper instead of a set shot. Sure like his defense and rebounding; IO, please drop the dribble/spin move where you lost the ball twice and stick with what you are doing well-the 15-18 foot jumper; Finally, I think BS must have a hint that DC is leaving, if not he is forcing him to make that decision. After his last game (USF) he should have come into the game long before he did last night and should have been allowed to make 2 mistakes w/o being relegated to the bench for the entire 2nd half (except the final 30 seconds when he tied the game for us). Shades of the Grawer era.
  9. Per today's paper, his brother was shot and is in serious condition.
  10. Hope I'm wrong, but based on today's PD article that Reggie hasn't even talked to Brad I'm thinking RB has played his last game for the Bills. Hope all goes as good as possible for the family.
  11. Shouldn't the Ath. Dept. and the SID be able to get this right? What in the heck is going on?
  12. Not to bang on AD because I like his hustle and spirit, BUT I taped the game last night and have only had a chance to see the first 28 minutes. My view is that AD played very poorly during that time, even FC and SH commented about his lack of judgment at one point. I am anxious to watch the rest of the tape since he must have really had a good last 12 minutes. Even given that, we still need better from him both the rest of the year and next year.
  13. Burg, wow, thanks for the inside scoop-you relly had that one nailed. Tonight's starters: VN LM IV DP AD Also, RB is back in ST. LOUIS ill.
  14. Please clarify your intent--"just because she shes something wrong with the coaching staff is not her fault." In case you are really able to read and understand my posts, my point is not that she disagrees with the Coach, I and many others also disagree with him on certain decisions. My point is that she implies having INSIDE info which is negative in nature and which could only be coming from her brother. However, when challenged on this she backs off from being the well-informed insider and becomes like the rest of us--fans with opinions. Again my point since most of you did not seem to get it--negative opinions expressed on this Board are NOT harmful to the team since none of us are in the know. However, when someone claiming to be a player's sister (along with being someone who talks to many of the players on a regular basis) posts negative opinions in messages filled with references to having these "insider conversations", THEN I believe it can have a detrimental inpact on the program. I don't begrudge brehms13 expressing her opinions, only when it appears obvious that those opinions are emanating in the locker room do I think she has crossed the line. It appears that I am in the real minority on this issue so she should feel welcome to continue to live in a dream world about Reggie's lack of effort/leadership on defense and his inability to get (and make) shots since she thinks at least 3 guys are always guarding him (her words, not mine). An edit--Burg I took the time to go back and read some of your recent posts and I am wondering why you are home from grade school today? Not feeling well?
  15. No pot shot on the sly intended-the pot shot was intended to be open and clear. Ig-nant (that's for me)? (Ass u put it)? By the way brehms13, on 11/28 you told us that, if we didn't know the players personally or talk to the Coach, then we could only speculate, and you certainly made it clear that you were referring to OTHER posters. Which way is it? Are you getting you info from knowing and talking to the players and coaches or are you now joining the ranks of the rest of us speculators? You really seem to get a kick out of appearing to be in the know. You mentioned you "trip" over some of the comments made on this Board. Well I guess I had to TRIP also when reviewing your posts telling us how much better AD was than DP, that Reggie was playing real good defense and that he should not have bought into the SLU defensive philosophy. Great points! Finally, who said I couldn't take it?
  16. I know we keep hearing that we are going (maybe just hoping) to get a PF who can come in and have an impact immediately, but my concern is that Brad and his staff have so far not shown the ability to get such a player. I think it is imperative that they get "their man" or we will be wasting DP, KL and TL much like I think Spoon did with HW, SH and EC. Just imagine how good that team would have been with some above average big guys.
  17. Your "ASS" stuff is very mature-what grade are you in? Reread your post after you cool off (if that's possible) and you should be very proud of the way you handled yourself. You are truly a very professional young woman. I will only take issue with one thing you said in your post-you give yourself too much credit. You are "stupid enough By the way, "What Coach tells me in Confidence" is not a sentence
  18. I think many of you are missing the point Brad was making both in his actions and in his comments. He said,"I expect our players to keep what's said in the locker room, in the locker room." Hello Reggie/brehms13 and any other players who really do talk to brehms13, although I find her numerous references to talking to players after the game, and getting all this insight from these players, to be a bit incredulous. My point is her comments on this Board, despite her protestations of innocence to the contrary, have had a disruptive influence on this TEAM, NOT because she posted negative comments on a message board, but rather because her negative comments were allegedly coming from a player on the team. If in fact Reggie feels as his sister posts, then he needs to work those issues out within the framework of the team and not have his complaints aired by his sister on a booster message board. I know only Billikan agrees with me on this point, but as I said a couple of days ago, I don't want to see anymore "inside info" from Reggie thru his sister. Brehms13, you would help the team more, if you really are interested in helping the team, by encouraging your brother to play both ends of the court. I know BH's dad and TF's dad regularly visit and sometimes post on this board. I appreciate the two of you not feeling the need to give us the "inside scoop" on any internal team matters.
  19. Regarding a few of the comments in this and a few other threads-- IV is playing better than I thought he would, but he still is a long way away from where we need him to be. Still not jumping for rebounds as evidenced by the # of off. rebounds Depaul got. I saw Ian blocking out well on many rebounds BUT he doesn't then go after the ball-we need him to do both. Again to be fair, he is doing much better than I thought. I think some of the reasoning behind IO not starting was the size of Depaul. I think we needed a 6'9" plus size guy in the game at all times and Brad only has confidence in IO and IV, hence he rotated them in the middle. I find interesting Brad's comments about why he didn't start RB and IO. He said his reasons would remain in the locker room with the team only. It isn't much of a stretch to see that he is sending a message to Reggie and his very talkative sister, who seems to speak on the phone to all the Billikens after each game. Willie, I have to agree with you on your point about AD not being able to stay with Diener when he (AD) first entered the game-he gave up 2 quick baskets, however BROY I also agree with your point that this was AD's best game-limited mistakes in limited minutes. As one of you mentioned, it was a very enjoyable game to watch even with the final result. AD and LM did a lot to help the team and pump up the fans. Speaking of the fans, I agree that the Blue Crew members who were there did a great job, BUT can't anything be done to get more bodies in their seats? A quick count of the students came up with about 60. Until the student body starts coming to the games in significant numbers, we better stop complaining about the 50+ generation. If not for those over 50 we could play in the Bauman-Eberhardt gym. Other quick comments on the game--I too am somewhat concerned about LM's shot from 3 pt. territory. He shoots a very slow developing set shot that he seems to push much like some of the old time players. Once he becomes known as a player who can score from outside and is guarded a little more closely, he will not be able to get that shot off. Did anyone else happen to note RB's complete lack of effort on defense. One example, if you happened to tape/tivo the game go to about 13:35 left in the 2nd half and watch him after a turnover (his). He made little, to no, effort to get back on defense, moving at the pace of a 90 year old man. I think it's effort like this that Brad sees on game tape that is cutting into his minutes. Finally, if I were JJ and was in the game (and looking for more playing time) I would hustle to the bench after a timeout is called instead of taking a leisurely stroll. Maybe he should watch DP, VN, LM or AD if he wants to get some minutes-they hustle. Surely JJ couldn't have been tired! Overall a much better effort by most and it was nice to finally see the real DP and what he will be able to contribute over the next 3 years. Great job DP.
  20. I don't remember PeeWee as coming out of the V. I thought he went to Central.
  21. Roy, I agree with you on most things Billiken-related, but I think you and I are watching different games with regard to this issue. In any case, I still think it is important to build confidence in our young players (DP, DB and LM) to take and make 20' shots since they will be here 3 more years and will get a lot of minutes and be critical to our success even with KL and TL onboard. By the way, I didn't intend to limit my comments to our big men taking tough, closely guarded shots inside. Many of the guards have done the same thing-have you watched some of the shots AD has taken while in the paint.
  22. Possibly, but 1. and 2. could have other causes. Some players just do not show good judgment, eg. AD taking a stupid running 10' shot at the end of the first half when better options were available or RB passing up a wide open 21' shot only to take a well-guarded 21' shot 3-5 seconds later (no, the shot clock was not a factor). Also, some individuals just are not confident by nature, and I think DP and LM fall into that category with regard to their shot. Yes, coaching can go a long way to fixing 1. and 2., but it isn't always the cause. If, Brad is causing these problems by not allowing them to make some mistakes then I would agree he has to make some changes in his approach to his players, especially his young players. I do not want to see Brad becoming like Rich Grawer, at the end of his time at SLU, who would pull a player from a game for any mistake. Coaches need to build confidence not destroy it!
  23. My point is that we have players (RB, DB, LM, VN and yes with some confidence DP) who, if encourged could sink these shots with some regularity, rather than passing them up to try and force the ball into our bigs for short, but tough shots. When we have an uncontested 20' shot I would rather see us take it than passing it up for, at best, a difficult inside shot or at worst a turnover, which we have seen way too many of. Our outside players just don't seem to be able to pull the trigger and this inability is caused by 1. poor judgment, 2. lack of confidence, or 3. coaching. I am not saying that we a great ouside shooting team, but I am saying that we are passing up too many open outside shots with a reasonable chance of converting and opting instead for a difficult inside shot and often times a turnover.
  24. First, let me state that overall I believe Brad has done an outstanding job in his tenure as HC. However, like many on this Board, I do not believe that the Marq. game was his finest hour-in fact I question some of his tactics all year (such as constantly forcing the ball inside to average, at best, big men for highly contested shots while passing up uncontested 18-22' shots). Second, I usually find myself on the other side of the fence from Billikan, but not this time. I have been becoming increasing turned off by brehms13's posts on this Board She has become a disruptive factor in her supposed inside info posts while constantly reminding us of her objectivity. She can only be getting this c#@% from one person (if she is really getting it from anyone) and I find that "one person" to be a big part of the problem this year, and I am only speaking of his minutes ON the court. As an aside, if Reggie is really feeding his sister this c#@%, then he is an even bigger part of the problem. Brehms13, your 2nd last paragraph, besides being somewhat rambling and nonsensical, clearly represents an unbelievably biased and distorted view of the situation, and I for one (make that two with Billikan) have had enough of your "inside info" negativity. If Reggie had ANY interest in putting out ANY effort on defense then and ONLY then would he be trying to be a leader of this young team. His points Sat. did not come close to equaling his points given up by a complete lack of effort on defense. Leaders don't take half the game off and then complain to their sisters afterwards. Encourage your brother to play both ends of the court and we will have fewer losses to complain about the HC. Then if you have issues with the HC great, but make them your issues and not ones coming out of the locker room. I find your disruptive posts of little to no value in what I would hope all Billikenboard members (except the idiot Tn2) want-a really good Billiken BB team. I would like to see you become part of the solution instead of becoming part of the problem.
