played at USML and lost to the rivermen

Agree, that was a dismal year. In fact from 75-82 were dismal years but in his case his tenure was only one year. The team he inherited was bad. Also, did not improve significantly when Ekker was hired.

Thank God for Grawer. What makes Grawer special in my mind that unlike now, Grawer was not handed a lot of resources.

Agreed, it was more of an example.  I think SLU/Chaifetz may see a better return if that had some of the sponsorships give to NIL than SLU, and make up the amount in increased sales.

This going back now 15 yrs but I recall bonds were used to fund a good portion of the Chaifetz. Interest does have to payed on the bonds & $ set aside if someone cashes in.

I am sure CJS reviewed some game tapes & got some recommendations from Tate.

I wonder if he had some individual 'come to Jesus' meetings with individuals and saying 'I see limited playing time for you for the upcoming season' ?

He may pretty much know who transferring in from ISU.

YES.  Not sure if he is an official portal entry, or a coming with my Dad player.   Jersey #5 awaits.

Was he scholarship player at ISU?

Doesn't faculty, which I believe Coach Schertz is considered, get free tuition?

Does the hiring of Schertz, a hot mid major name, and rumors of a hefty NIL war chest signal that this is the moment we’re seriously pushing to get into the Beast? The Fox contract with the Beast expires after the 25-26 season I believe.  Fox will likely insist the Beast expand to compete with the P5 conferences that may be whittled down to the P4 sooner than later.
SLU made a rather un SLU like move by terminating Travis Ford and eating his buyout. It would seem the powers that be were frustrated with the program’s direction under Ford and figured all our pluses, ie facilities, TV market size, and similar school profile, would not be enough to gain entry into the Beast. We need to prove that we are serious about building a winning program. Hence, the hefty commitment of financial resources were necessary to be considered for Beast acceptance. My guess is this is what’s behind SLU’s taking these very unlike SLU actions. Now all we have to do is Win, Baby, Win!

I think it is only happen if UCONN bolts to the B12. Can UCONN make the football program comparable to its men and women BB program? I doubt they have the will to do it therefore they remain in the NBE.

Make the A10 better. Bring in C of C & I like to see Bradley, for our sake. Bradley been decent the last couple of years with Wardle. Also, if you remember the Bradley back in our day, they were our biggest rivals. Recall that last game in the 70-1 season, 15000+ in the old Barn. Watching Jimmy Irving go off on them.  With that win we got into a 3 way tie in the old MVC.

A former patient of mine played for SLU one year for Shimmy. Said exactly what Roy said.

Full of energy at Billiken Club meetings, but a different person in the locker room and practice.

Thank God the portal was not in existence during the Shimmy years. The roster would have had a 100% turnover every year.

Shimmy did know how to PR herself. Loved her blog. Also, didn't they make a documentary movie about the team during her tenure?

You’re all missing the weirdest one including a tweet by a former SLU Womens Basketball Coach. image.thumb.jpeg.ee0e88ecc43001edc6f5b5bf8600e42e.jpeg

WOW! Talk about a someone from the past that was from the evil Dark Ages of SLU WBB.

    Curious, where is she now?

ISU fans not far off. SLU annual tuition is now $50,000, the Fetz is a half-empty morgue, few students attend ... and for good reason, the team stinks.

Well, I am guessing, other than this year, ISU does not exactly pack it in.

    2023:

    ISU  3886 avg attendance

    SLU 7056 avg attendance

    2022:

    ISU 2099 avg attendance

    SLU 5559 avg attendance

    2021:

    ISU 3676 avg attendance

    SLU 6880 avg attendance

Both arenas have similar capacity. So much for ISU being a hotbed for Indiana basketball.

Also the kind of thing that could blow everything up.

This is not Terra Haute. He is coming to a top 25 media market and earning the big bucks. Part handling the press will be his job.

If this does not work out here after he arrives, you'll have Bernie & Slaten doing the old 'I told you so'.

Majerus got away with it by ignoring the StL media other than Bernie, who was his buddy.

I vaguely remember several toxic issues with him during the Grawer tenure.     I remember him going on Mike Bush's Sunday show with one of his ex-players airing out some grievances.   I'm glad I have mostly forgotten that crap.

Okie, this is going back, it was in the Romer days.

I think it involved Jimmy McKinney (the father) and it was one other player. McKinney ended up playing for Quin Snyder at SPUMAC. He really toyed with us over that one. One other player, just can't remember.

Ace or Torch, help me out here?
