  1. I also like the nscaa.com. Has a weekly poll all the divisions, plus gives you scores of all teams around the country. As you follow the team, you get caught up in what the other ranked teams are doing around the country. mhg
  2. only thing close to a schedule was that she wanted to be up to 'full steam' in three months. No one challenged her as to what that really means, or if that was just a round ball estimate on time. She was given some slack here, IMHO. First meeting, promised to come back, seems she will be more accessible, visible than previous inhabitants of the position. She admitted there was a bump in the road when DW anounced he was leaving, and until she was named. She mentioned after the amount of time she has spent meeting with coaches, meetings related to the facility has taken up the most amount of her time. She realizes this is a high profile activity for her and her staff. This and retaining UB are important to her. In relation to recruiting, Coach Thorpe mentioned that the local area is still their most important recruiting area, but that they are increasingly looking east of here in anticipation of the A10 relationship in the future. He said there aren't many facilities like ours in the east. What specificly he was referring to here he did not mention. mhg
  3. Ms Levick-WOW. Everyone was impressed with her enthusiasm and energy. Gearing up for th big fundraising push for the stadium. She is picking what will be in the building...practice facilities, offices, wgt rooms, etc....while working with the multipurpose aspects of the building. The asst AD was grilled on the change in the point system. It was changed to allow credit for the non bball gifts to get credit, but never was it addressed how these points would benefit anyone but the bball issues, unless there is an NCAA Finals in the future for soccer or such. It seemed a bogus logic explanation to me. There are 8 slots left for anyone wanting to go with the team to Paradise Jam in November. Call Jim the asst AD tomorrow if you are interested, he will have cost and timing info for you. Ms Levick is in temporary housing at the moment...a SLU dorm! Coach Thorpe was the main speaker about men's bball. Reggie may have had a stress fracture of his foot, but is better now. Frerick is in the midst of a strenuous conditioning program. Arrived out of shape. It appears that he is Coach Thorpe's personal project right now. AD has lost some wgt. Spoke a lenght and glowingly about VN. Three times mentioned how he is a tough kid, tough kid, tough kid. He will fit in like Sloan did. Guarded the 2 to the 5 in Junior College. 6'5". Feels that they will not redshirt anyone this year. If pressed to hame the starters, he hedged and hedged, would only mention 6...RB, TF, DP, IO, AD, VN. When asked how they are adressing IO's inability to finish his plays last year, he said the coaches thought he would show million dollar moves, the finish with a 2 cent shot. IO is working out with the big men, they dug up some football pads to put some hits on him in practice, to help him to adjust down low. He sees IO playing more as a 4 than a 3. Of the four new players, all are lefties except Danny Brown. DB-very athletic, long arms, 6'3", raw. Heard about him at the end of July. He did not want to go to JuCo and didn't want to go to Air Force Academy. JJ-235, BH- 7'1" 275 # needs to get more aggressive, increase his confidence. IV has lost wgt maybe 15#, is more aggressive. Practice starts 10/16. there will be a meet the team event. more to come later. Next Tip Off Club 10/18 (or whenever the third Tuesday is) DC- wgt up 12#, chipped bone in his thumb, playing now. Recruiting= had a player in this week, two more in the next week. Not sure what they want right now. Probably a 4 or a 5. Feel set at wing for now. DP is a true point guard who can distribute well. Stated that he is Reggie's best friend now, as he understands his role on this team. Good turnout, lots of questions, solid direct answers from Coach. I am really pumped now and can't wait to see how this team plays out. Saw Terrence there, and Dribbler. Can't wait for 10/16.
  4. I would agree with DB's eval, but I thought the Cavalier player (I always call them 'plume boys') was taken down in the box. Didn't see the game Friday nite, so maybe it was a payback on that game. Bills were a little too defensive in the second half for my liking. Don't think the keeper was really set when the free kick on their goal was hit, and didn't get to the ball quickly. The defensive wall may have screened him some. A good win over a ranked opponent, beating them twice in two years. We seem to be a team coming together. Spacing was good throughout the first half, with good anticipation of the opponent's passes. Thought Ryan Wileman was strong throughout the game, and controlled the middle a bit. I also thought we were better physically than they were, had more speed at the end of the game. mhg
  5. Don't we see Newbourne being mainly a rebounding 4 for the majority of his minutes?
  6. Some distant relative of Roy (our Roy) Mueller?
  7. would like to hear a confirmation from The Band. Doesn't jive with what we see every game. mhg
  8. ditto..no vote count here either. Voted for H...could do it all...pass, shoot, defend. Of course, as the official sponsor, I really am p---ed that John Duff wasn't mentioned. He would have blown all those chumps out of the water! Official Billikens.com sponsor of John Duff
  9. Sorry- Am moving tomorrow. This is my last gasp of computer time. Will take apart the machine then get set up at my new place with charter. Have to connect the computer without help of sons for the first time...will be challenging my techno abilities...LOL. Will try to make the Sat nite game vs Marquette, though. Go Bills mhg
  10. Went and was disappointed. Crowd was thin. Threatening rain, but ended up being a good night. Went to Humphrey's with two couples and a buddy. We quadrupled the 'Happy Hour' crew. We scored first at the 4 minute mark on a nice move by John. They replied about ten minutes later. We were slipping all over the place. They pressured our D and we didn't do well moving it out of our end. Constantly hitting a deep ball instead of working it up. Didn't work since we really don't have that much speed up front. Lots of good ball handlers, but no one to put a few passes together. Ward didn't take control the way he did in the last game, and John was marked very hard in the second half. Had some hard words and pushing after we tried to get the ball out of the keeper's hands with the ball on the ground. That is all I can rememeber. Sorry. mhg
  11. Actually he is from New Jersey. Why am I responding to such an inane message?
  12. Soccer game is Sat nite, pre seson game vs Northwestern University of the Big X
  13. When does the team work out with pick up games, etc. I may have some time WEd aft and might go down to see them play. Are they at the Baumann or the new gym? mhg
  14. Has anyone seen our newest recruit, D Brown, play yet in the gym? How has he looked in the pick up games? Official billikens.com sponsor of John Duff
  15. Charter Cable is down and this is the first chance I had to get to a computer. I am a novice at watching this game, but it was clear that he was the best palyer on the field, at least for us. No one could get the ball away from him. He is tall, not big, but really knows how to use his body to shield the ball away from defenders. He is consistently able to move up the field, and to his left across the grain. Doesn't seem to distribute the ball too well, but he is only on the team a few weeks. Ward set up the play on the goal, by getting past his man, where the ball went to the player that sent it to Will John. Clearly John would have had a PK if we had not scored. The attendance by the freshman class and their enthusiasm was tremendous. Unfortunately most left when the winners of the contest in which they were participating were anounced. They did seem to be having a lot of fun, though. More innovative programs like that by the Athletic Department would be a boost to attendance and spirit.
  16. I am no soccer nerd but enjoy going to the games. Went last nite and it was a great event. Thought the team played hard, but missed vedad more than I thought. Got a gift second goal as their keeper cleared a ball directly into Will John and the ball rolled into the goal. Their two goals were well earned as they moved into our zone and were able to get past our D. I was disappointed. We will have to see how we do against Creighton Sat. mhg
  17. Actually, Roy, that is what I want to hear from him at our group, what he really feels about this team, this program and where he thinks we are headed. When you listen to him on the Cardinal games for the last week and a half, he is sucking up royally (how can you not the way this team is playing). I want to hear him in front of our loyalists, and tell them he really thinks we were the worst team in 20 years last year. Don't know how to do PMs. Will play with it when I have time tonight. 18. I'm sorry, I don't understand. Do you have some influence in getting Bob Ramsey to come to the Tip Off Club meetings? I think it would be great to have Rammer there to offer his insights and opinions. He is ready to do so on the radio, so I would be anxious to have him come to spend some time with us. I'm sure his appearance would increase attendance were he and Earl Austin and the coaches continue to attend. Official Billikens.com sponsor of John Duff
  19. Best wishes for a full recovery to former Billikens soccer player Ryan DeGrand, who had surgery for brain cancer this week at Barnes Jewish Hospital. DeGrand was a top defender for the Billikens from 1990-93 and played on SLU's 1991 final four team. ... Mehlville High soccer midfielder Dado Hamzajic, who hails from Bosnia, has given an oral commitment to St. Louis U. soccer coach Dan Donigan.
  20. Jared Theodorakis...went to Chaminade for High School.
  21. With Rammer on KFNS from 12-2p, he won't have the excuse of a timing conflict preventing him from attending the Tip Off club this year. Think he will still be a 'no show'? Official Billikens.com sponsor of John Duff
  22. Actually, Billikenbooster is an easier name to remember! he he he
  23. "New St. Louis U. athletics director Cheryl Levick and men's basketball coach Brad Soderberg made their first public speaking appearance together at the St. Louis Sports Commission quarterly meeting on Wednesday." Some positive press, eh? Maybe some connections were made that might help the building of the Biondi Dome. Anyone hearing any rumors on the naming of the facility? Official Billikens.com sponsor of John Duff
  24. Also, wasn't he a much better FT shooter last year than what he showed in this tournament. Well, I guess we don't have to worry about him turning pro after this European tourney, as the soccer team did with Vedad! Official billikens.com sponsor of John Duff
  25. Hope Ian isn't injured! Official Billikens.com sponsor of John Duff
