There are probably only a handful of people in the World that think they’re bigger than the World Cup, and it is no surprise at all that Enos Kroenke is one of them.

Rather watch the cornhole championships on "the ocho."  Stan is a pinhead but got no problem with him shaking down a corrupt foreign syndicate.........

Right on time. I didn't need a laugh today but I'll take it. Thankfully we have a secure Man like yourself to point out the great imbalance of power of Women over Men in societial systems of  institutional power. When will White Straight Men ever catch a break? Oh, and I still have zero nickels.

    Free Straight White Men.

Who said anything about straight and white?  You are assuming facts not in evidence professor--in the most arrogant and pompous way possible.

Sexism is a disregard of Women, a belief that Men are superior to Women and Women are to act accordingly.

Sexism: characterized by or showing prejudice, stereotyping, or discrimination, on the basis of sex.

Sorry professor but it's 2023 and sexism can go multiple different ways.......

I’m rooting for him. He is a good guy.  There are some deep demons Dan has been dealing with most of his life.  it doesn’t excuse what has happened, but it helps explain what he is dealing with.

All that said, he shouldn’t return to announcing.  I am not saying he should be banned from it, but if he wants to stay sober he should decide on his own to find another line of work.  Being on the road all the time and working the emcee circuit is not a lifestyle conducive to staying sober for someone like Dan.

Any gig that doesn't include a car and driver for him probably shouldn't happen.

Nothing better than telling someone what to do with their money. How about you drink one less beer a night and you might actually be having the same conversation.

As per usual you are convinced this site is your personal blog, and all that matters is what you do and what you think is worth it. Nobody cares that you or I, soccer fans, pay for the MLS package. Sh!t we’re not even talking about the die hard at St Louis sports fans as you find here on the message board. We’re all going to subscribe if we want to regardless. We’re talking about the casual St Louis sports fan. Are you trying to grow the 4 most popular league in the United States among the local fan bases or are we just trying to get people to subscribe to Apple+ so they can watch Messi?

At the end of the day, the MLS is talking out of both sides of its mouth. CITY is building mini pitches in underserved communities meanwhile the MLS is guaranteeing that most of these kids can’t watch their local teams on tv weekly.

I had Apple TV until I ran out of Ted Lasso.  Not going to pay more for soccer.  I would probably check it out on broadcast or ESPN+........so there........

Four out of five MBMs project Parker as a 14+ ppg scorer next year.  The only way he could surprise at this point is to be all-conference.  Never have I seen so much weight placed on a Billiken who was a role player the previous year.

That's been our experience with juco players since at least Maurice Jeffers.........

Whatever happened to that mathematical formula they used to measure against teams for grad rates?  Guys had five years to get a degree (now likely six) to tally positively to the school's overall grad rate.  I seem to recall Tommie Liddell being a bug in that system for us.  I imagine it's gone or the accounting has gone plumb wild given grad transfers, transfer portal and all the crap that is the college norm now.  I recall kshoe being pretty educated on that stuff a few years back.

    APR is DOD......

The free agent transfer portal should not be looked at in a vacuum. Now, you're combining it with NIL which is also motivating some of these departures. Then add all of the conference re-shuffling driven by P5 schools chasing every dollar of football tv money and you wind up with a LOT of major changes to college sports in just a few years. I think it will be several more years before we have a better picture of what the new normal looks like, but I don't like the direction it's heading.

Players no longer have identities with certain schools, it's all very mercenary. It will get even more difficult for non-P6 schools to compete. Conference affiliations and some geographic rivalries are continuing to be destroyed. I used to enjoy at least the appearance of amateurism of college sports, but now that's all blown to hell. Increasingly I find myself turning back to pro sports. At least it's purpose is more honest.

I just had a thought while reading your post:  WORLD ENDING TOMORROW!  non-P6 schools effected the most!

I know that NIL/transfer portal/conference realignment will affect the lower level conferences more.  The haves have always had and the have-nots haven't.  It doesn't look much different today.  With the squelching of the free two time transfer, and us having any kind of NIL program, I'm not crazy worried anymore.........

Women get 14 scholarships. Men get 9.9 scholarships. Yes, some players get full tuition room and board scholarships. Many get a combination of athletic, academic, grants, financial need based $ as well. Some of the elite academic/athletic schools have strong financial assistance programs.

Youth club soccer also has financial tiers in terms of costs and assistance.

Recruiting is often a negotiation back and forth to work out the financials.

SLU specifically targets players knowing which financial tiers, even within the same playing position, they will allocate for each player. Example: SLU Women’s Soccer lost a player last year because the offer, while strong, was not a full ride. A similar level, non-Power 5 soccer school, did offer the full ride. SLU was offered a chance to match but didn’t. Example: A SLU Men’s Soccer commit turned down a much better $ offer at a comparable soccer program to go to SLU. It all depends.

For elite level recruiting targets, it’s less of a factor. SLU knows it has to have a very strong offer to even be in the recruiting mix for those players. It’s also less of a factor with players who are filling the last spots on the team. Those players have less options at SLU’s program level. Where it is more often a factor, are players in the middle.

Hate to clutter up a soccer thread with actual soccer discussion but has NIL made an appearance at all, with elite level programs?

You are anything if not a dedicated SLU Soccer thread reader. That’s great. Trolling isn’t the most productive self esteem strategy for yourself or others. It slows and limits the topic discussion you seek here so frequently. And if anything, it sounds exhausting.

I don’t think you understand how being an internet tough guy works. You volunteer yourself not others. Besides, Pete and Zach aren’t exactly big dudes. (No offense Pete and Zach) So can i volunteer yourself. That seems fair.

You’re in luck. I’m in town today. I do have a fundraiser to attend this evening. But I can rearrange my schedule and make time for you late this afternoon to accommodate your needs. Message me and we’ll work out the details. I’ll copy a neutral poster in the messaging if that makes you more comfortable.

That way the soccer people can have the soccer thread, and you get to be a tough guy elsewhere privately, win/win. As a dedicated soccer reader, I’m sure you’d want that for them.

The soccer teams appreciate your support and enthusiasm. That’s really great. Good for you.

You are a strange little man…….

One of my faves.  Earl summed it up, just a cool dude.

He was the leading scorer on the 1st Floyd Irons Championship at Vashon.  As was the case with many Vashon teams, that group just ran guys off the floor.  That State title team had to forfeit most of their games because Irons let an ineligible player play.  They won that title with nobody over 6 feet 2 and 200 lbs on that squad.

A lot of the Vashon guys would play on this team called the Zips.  They were like a Jr High Globetrotters team that would perform at HS and college games.  Trice played for them and I always remember he could do some real tricks with the ball that I had never seen before.  He could shoot from anywhere as well.  Various things, his knees were always messed up, he was never in shape, he played like a track star but didn't have that real burst anymore.  If he still had that speed he maybe could have been a point guard.  Grawer would dump on him at practice every day.  Guy who made 7-7 3 pointers in a game his Jr year wasn't allowed to shoot outside the paint his Sr year.  Newberry eventually replaced him.  Trice should have been like a Duff or Virgil Cobbin but Grawer pretty much wasted him.  His Sr year team was full of headcases and quitters and he had the worst time of it and played with a smile on his face.

Thanks Torch.  I always appreciate your info on stuff that happened before I was a Billiken Fan and had any knowledge of STL highschool ball.

I’m highlighting that the 20 mark is stupid in basketball in this day of age. Was that wrong?  You’re a good poster, you should know that 20 means nothing now, maybe 15 years ago. So is a bad post worthy? I’ve only gotten one bad post ever, by a troll who was banned. Don’t be on his level.

20 wins has become a bad joke by the sodomize Ford crew as you well know.  Pretending something otherwise is a lie.  We are men of action.  Lies do not become us.........

Not so much for recent preseason tourneys:

2022: Lost to Maryland, beat Providence in the Hall of Fame Tip-Off.

    2021: Won the Cancun Challenge.

2020: Won the Billiken Classic (at home).

    2019: Won the Gotham Classic.

That's a good point.  Never been to a preseason tournament.  Also never seen the Billikens win on the road in person..........

I went through the tournament website that directs you to the Coastal Carolina ticketing page.   I already had an account because I went to a CCU baseball game this year so it was super easy.   My wife and I will be attending.  @Billiken Rich  You in?…

One of my buddies I work with lives literally across the street from that Publix.  She unfortunately did not win.

Too depressing to hit the road with the Billikens.....usually......

You will love Chapters 4 and 5.

    • Only 11% of voters can recall their state legislator's name
    • When asked if they could remember anything their state legislator has done for their district, 75% of voters said "no" or "don't know"
    • When asked to describe what they liked or disliked about their state legislative candidates, over 1/3 of voters could not say anything about either the Republican or Democratic candidate.

So......What's your solution?  Please tell me it's not some horrific bastardization of democracy like ranked choice voting.
