  1. He didn't win, he settled. And he was lucky enough to have a pro bono lawyer. But he's a great example: He did get sued.

And 05, you might want to look very quickly at the IHOP suit. Clearly IHOP had absolutely no competition from a church. And that church was a nonprofit entity, like the U. But if you don't protect, you're liable to lose rights. (Try using the word "Technicolor" in a published document sometime and see how fast you get a letter.)

Correct me,and I'm sure you will, but I thought he got some cash for the South Butt trade mark.
  2. As pointed out before, it will be approximately 15 minutes between the time SLU announces the SLUnatics name and the time Nelly's lawyers serve someone high up in the administration.

I'm not sure they can't play it the other way. Nelly's a hometown guy who works hard on his hometown image. He's also a sports freak. Get him to come to the Fetz, and shoot a video shooting baskets with the SLUnatics in the background with a Nelly song blasting. Good pub for everyone.
  3. If you finish the sentence...a lawyer will spin it into something. They can see dollar bills in anything.

I honestly have no idea the $$ value, but then again it is divinity so can you really put a dollar sign the true worth? (I am sure a lawyer can.)

He wants to coach and teach at Desmet. What's that worth? 35-55K?
  4. Mt. Rushmore has four faces, so I'm going with this:

Arena: Cameron, Allen, Rupp, and the Palestra.

Programs: Kentucky, Kansas, UNC and UCLA with Duke closing due to recent history.

Head Coaches: Wooden, Rupp, Smith and Iba.

Active: Coach K, Roy Williams, Jim Calhoun and Jim Boeheim.

I like the Palestra. More college basketball games have been played there then any other arena.
  5. Enjoyed the article. I noted two (2) different things from the article:

    1. Chartered Flights -- where have I heard that from before??

    2. the same Athletic Director over the last 31 years who hired great coach after great coach. In comparision, we hired Jim Bakken, Debbie Yow, Doug Woolard, Cheryl Levick and now Chris May.

BTW, my favorite Doug Woolard story: sitting at a post-game Tip Off Club event at J Bucks following a game, been there 20 minutes or longer, seated with my group, getting ready to eat the food we ordered, noticed that Doug Woolard had just arrived by himself, he walks through the main door and past several tables of SLU boosters and not one group stopped their conversation or tried to say hello, shake his hand or the like. It was as he was just some ordinary guy off the street!!

What do you have against Larry Preo?
  6. I was at 99% of the billiken home games during my 4 years so I supported the program plenty and continue to do so. I just didnt think charging students to be in the Blue Crew was the best way to go about it. Shouldnt the basketball proram/athletic marketing department provide money for shirts and pizza?

Open it up to all the students and I think you will get a better student turnout and a better home court advantage. I just dont understand why there has to be a seperate group...

If you watch college basketball almost every program has some kind of student group. ie izzo zone. I don't know but I thought the Blue Crew cost was $50. I do think any student season ticket should include a shirt.
  7. Help me out here but I doubt it ever cost $200 bucks to join the Crew. You talk about opening it up to all students but for whatever reason you were not committed enough to Billiken bball to join a group trying to support the program. I think there should be dues but that money should go for shirts, pizza, beer etc. I feel your coming across with an elite attitude. "I'm too good for them."

  8. I agree 100%. I think the main reason for the name change is to get rid of the "clique" or exclusive group stereotype. When I was a student me and Jimbo would sit a few rows behind the blue crew because those seats were "reserved" for blue crew members. That was a joke. If you want to keep the name then include all students and get ideas from everybody not just a select few.

All it comes down to is students showing up and giving us a true home court advantage. They made great strides last year but they just need to take the next step. Who cares about a name just show up and be rowdy, not that difficult.

So why didn't you and Jimbo join the Blue Crew?
  9. Happy to have this guy on staff reaching out to us, but what we all want is to see some practices; see our new players and possibly see a scrimmage or two.

I think Billiken Club membership and ticket purchases over $1000 a year should entitle us to get in to see "our" team. I know, it is RM's team but give us a break

we want to be great fans and Thomas Keith can write all the rah, rah emails he wants but it would mean a lot more to get us in to see the team

I think having a "Billiken Club Scrimage" would be a good idea. Pay your dues, create a little buzz, give the players a little diversion. I'm sure Rick has controlled scrimages as it is, just open one up.
  10. nice. the band is what has carried the "student section for decades. and you want to call them "dorks". nice. i for one will stand up for the band any day over ANY student fan. their track record is spectacular for supporting the billikens and deserve more respect than you just posted. you should be banned from anything billiken for life.

there is nothing wrong with the name "blue crew". the problem is not the name.

the problem is that the likes of 05 and running billiken are the exception to the rule that apparently exists on campus about being too cool to be a student fan in an actual cheer section. i dont think changing a name will ever bring the greeks to the front row, etc.

I don't agree about the greeks. I know it's ancient history but in my day it was the greeks who supported the team. Each frat had large sections and competed with each other for noise, numbers etc. It's just a matter of it becoming the thing to do for the greeks to jump on board.
  11. I could see a couple of minutes here and there, but not much more than that. Cory cannot play facing the basket further than 3 feet out. You absolutely don't want it becoming a habit for him to put the ball on the floor from 10 feet and he can't shoot from there. Brian and Cory are completely different types of players.

I'd like to see WR, RL, CE, KC, and KM and I'd be estatic if MM could make KC a 6th man. If that were to happen we'd be a damn good team. Probably the best Bills team I've ever seen.

I don't think it will happen but if KC was pushed to a 6th man we would be a hell of a team. It might also be the perfect spot for him as he could come into the 1-2-or 3 spot.I'm not going to get carried away after 1 person saw an open gym, but I do believe this board has forgotten about MM.
  12. would have been nice to see holliday in the middle of the fracas. hell other than albert probably the most imposing frame on the team. yet i dont recall him involved. probably was sitting in the dugout smoking a cigarette.

my respect for molina went way up last night.

Look at the tape again. Holliday was in the middle of the scrum.
  13. Seems to me there's a piece of Billiken trivia about a star-prospect PHL center who transferred there after about half a season in Billiken blue. (Late '70s-early '80s, the years back then all run together for me now.)

Didn"t Jeremy Biles transfer there after 1 year.
