Actually the story I read said Chaifetz called Biondi and said hey I want to do something for the University. Biondi said well I have this basketball thing. How about that. He'll yes a lot of people gave money but this was not a huge Biondi priority. Biondi did not go to an Andy Taylor type and say how about 10 million for this arena, he left it to Mike Shannahan who was only moderately successful getting a few million from his friends.

Sorry but I don't give Biondi credit for the arena .He promised a top50 program when Grawer was coach. His idea of building an arena was to allow outsiders to raise the money and then he would build it. Thank God for the good Doc or we would still be waiting.

At the Billiken Club meeting last night Crews called Santa Clara a bad loss. Said we didn't come to play.

I would add a couple of things. May did say that the University is out there selling SLU to the C7. We are doing our part . Crews said recruiting is going well but when did a coach ever say recruiting was going poorly. Don't look for any local players next year but hopefully the year after. Knows we need bigs but there aren't many out there.Wants more playing time for Manning and Grandy.As stated above he was warm and friendly.

I will say it again I don't know the numbers , but I would be willing to bet a cold frosty that the majority of the guys you see on TV are full time.

I don't know the numbers but a lot of the top guys do make their living as being refs. Pollard,from St. Charles quit his police job to ref full time. Guys like Kitts,Higgins,Valentine can be seen on TV almost every night.

I'm watching Illinois and OhioState and low and behold there is last night's short white referee. It is hard to believe any of those guys last night would ever work a big 10 game. He just got in Groce's face. Very unprofessional. Whatever happened to the Steve Wellmer, Ton O'Neil Eddie Hightowers of the world. Last night was so bad that I almost wish Mike Sancere was doing our games.
