If not for the incompetency of Frank Vogel, the Suns might have noticed they had a dude that would help their top 3 talent roster finish higher than 6th...

i said early in the season vogel was a fail.   they are only in the playoff because they have 3 of the top players in the league.   vogel did all he could to F that up but they somewhat overcame his incompetence.

Agree.  I would think that he could have gotten more to stay here, unless we had reason to tell him he wasn't wanted here anymore.  Also strange than another bigger program than McNeese State didn't take a chance on him.  Hell, I would think one of the programs who he hung 30 on in the A-10 would have paid him a little more than he's probably getting at NcNeese State.

while if anyone was made for hero ball it was sincere parker.   that said, hero ball and schertz 5 out do not mix.  one or the other had to go likely is my thought.  good luck to parker.   i am betting at mcneese he will be a star.   good for him.

Just throwing out names because I think we need a PG

I personally think with the Schertz offense I watched in the NIT, we don't need a pure point guard.   They get out and run and everyone is moving even in the half court.

Assuming Schertz will try to implement the same offense we need speed and shooters.   A lot of dribbling is a fail.  All need vision and passing skills and unselfish attitudes.

    See Caitlin Clark

with her new endorsement deals (reportedly signing a huge nike deal this week) as well as still having her state farm deal as well as other endorsements from last year all renewed, Caitlin will have more direct deposits this year than last.   her WNBA contract is just something to do.

I assume that college sports will be divided into semiprofessional teams with salaries but no scholarships. And more of a club like lower sport levels with their own competitions in a variety of sports for males and females similar to Div II and III and with or without scholarships. I really do not think I will be alive to see this set of NIL and salary issues resolved in court.

colleges should always be in the business of education first and foremost.  they have no business running a professional sports franchise and giving the athletes (notice i didnt say student athletes) money with no emphisis on education.   if the athletes want to play their sport for a career, fine go to a minor league otherwise get in the classroom and earn a diploma.

  6. Great post cgeldmacher.   I've been preaching for years if some booster wants to throw fortunes and cars, even houses at kids I don't care.   But if this is college they should be college kids.   They should qualify to get enrolled like any other college student.   They should attend classes and pass and be able to prove they are on pace to graduated in their 5 years of eligibility.

The NCAA should put 100% of their police work into this.   If the players don't want to be students, let them go pro.   Colleges should not be the NBA and the NFL minor leagues

And I'm betting it would not take anything away from the fan experience.   The competition would still be there.

Ron Coleman was no picnic either.

Hell I apparently erased that nightmare completely out of my memory.   Did grawer have a less than 13 win season as well?  Thinking he did.   And grawer's last season was tough to stomach as well.   Terrible career ending injuries, players disappearing and playing with a D2 team without the fans even knowing, players quitting and walking off the floor in the middle of the season.   Wow

Regardless, while ford's end was bad, the billiken fandom has been through worse.

I mean you have a personal connection to Tate. Seems like you're letting your bias get in the way. Excuse me that I'm not excited to keep any coaching remnants from the worst season in my lifetime.

Crews only won 11 games each of last two seasons. And while it was before you were born Ekker was worse than both crews and the end of Ford.

If you are interested in the BVF, listen to Frank's interview yesterday with Troy.  He came out and stated that Caleb Love's agent called last year and said he wanted to come to SLU for $XYZ.  He was out of the budget.  But he would have been the Billiken's 2 Guard if the funds had been ther

Billiken Loyalty Program was explained.  It is for Graduating Seniors that have been with the school for 2 years.  TJ Hargrove is getting a nice check from the Loyalty Program this year.  You can go to BVF and direct your funds to BVF Loyalty Program for TJ.

I like the loyalty program.   However we can't put everything there and then be short on being effective in the portal

I am not a Love fan.   I hate hero ball when there are other talented players on the floor.   With Parker this year we had to have him play that way.   With Collins I thought we had other players that were good enough to be utilized and got ignored

Love was on a team that had a number of talented players whereby he didn't need to play that way as much as he did.

If I am wrong then maybe he should be in the NBA draft.

Why are you comparing us to Indiana State? We were paying our coach more than they spent on their entire basketball program. We are not the same.

Our soon to be all-time leading scorer is going to start his SIXTH year in a row at SLU. He isn't playing for free. We kept the nation's leader in assists on our roster for four years - he wasn't playing for free either.

We won't keep everyone, but no one is keeping everyone. College sports are different now, but we're a lot higher on the totem pole (and spend like it) than some people are making it seem

I'm talking about NOT recruiting totally inexperienced college players to be.   Imo it's a waste of time we are only going to upgrade them and likely lose them.   Jimmerson is an exception. He already has an established relationship with a big billiken booster, reportedly has a serious relationship with a SLU coed, and has a big time Billiken history that likely provides the billiken a home town discount as well as gives SLU a reason to invest more of their bank as well. I'm I guarantee he is not playing for free.

Were they totally immersed in the portal?   Otherwise doesn’t sound like a coach and his staff trying all that hard to keep his gig.

I agree completely with this.  I truly don't want a lot of attention towards the high school players.   We coach them up and then they transfer up to a P5 team.

Look at Schertz players from last year at Indiana State.   True we were compliant in attempting to pirate those players but the first 2 even skipped over us and transferred to Texas for a apparent big pay raise

I hate what the Division one scene has become, but it isn't going back.  If we get a high school kid we better really want him and be willing to pay big.

Considering high school recruiting at the Billiken level has always been about finding potential and hoping for developing that potential.   Now we're going to be developing it so they can go somewhere else when they finally reach the production level?    No thank you

Goodwin, Yuri, Hargrove and possibly Perkins never play here without Tate.  Not really bench players.

You are wrong on Goodwin.   Ford was at Goodwin practices workouts and summer games almost daily after ford got hired.   Ford recruited goodwin

  13. admittedly i have only watched Avila on TV a handful of times this year.   IMO, he is a surprising star.   Watching him, he doesnt overwhelm you with high flying dunks or blocked shots into the stands, or blinding speed on fast breaks.

However at the end of the game he fills the stats chart, he has more assists than what team's big guys normally has, his shooting percentage particularly from the three point line is pretty much unheard of for a big.

imo he is Nicola Jokic in the making.   I guess jokic is a product of the Schertz offense as well.  Jokic wouldnt be anything without being a product of the Schertz offense. right?

i love Avila.   he plays basketball the way the game is supposed to be played.   i want him to be a billiken so much.

Just hire Wade and be done with it.

It is good to see these high profile jobs with awful fan bases having trouble finding coaches.

would seem like the best choice.   both would seem to be desparate to fill the spot.

-that gets him a contract, right?

somehow they would have to free up a roster spot.   no idea what their individual players remaining contracts are currently.   you would sure think so.   they obviously like him considering he is playing over their main roster players now.   that said, Ja comes back next year as well as marcus smart and derrick rose.   that's a lot of former star power that goodwin would have to battle for floor minutes.   he might be better looking for another team that is in need for a guard. you can bet scouts from other teams have noticed.

I am not saying he is worthless all I am saying is you can't take what he says at face value.  As far as May changing his mind on Ford I am sure he eventually did once the tide had changed.  I have no doubt that May will do whatever it takes to save himself.  Never have I ever sailed under a false flag with any of my employees.  It sometimes made them unhappy, but I was always honest regarding where they stood, and they knew it.  As far as a good employee suddenly going south, I would have been remiss not to try to figure out what was going on in his/her life to cause this sudden change and see what help I could provide.  I actually feel a bit bad for Ford because I am sure he feels a bit betrayed by May.  By the way I never said anything about Schertz character either way.

and i am saying you and i dont know the whole story of the true scenario.   we are all guessing to a great extent.   what matters is the end result.   and from my view it is a home run.  the fact Chris May is still here and taking a very active role in the roll out of the red carpet and handling all the public work, i would say he was the one swinging the very successful bat.  but again just a guess.   we dont know. but it sure seems silly to continue with the bashing he endured all year long in my opinion.  if half of that was true he would have gotten fired.
