  1. Sorry, I love most of your input, but you're wrong on this. St. Louis should kick the gift horse in the mouth as in all likely hood the gift horse is rabid and will most assuredly bite you later. Baseball, Hockey, and Soccer are enough. The NFL does not make St. Louis a better city.

  2. Come on, Perkins was going to play the wing on offense. He was going to see some time guarding the opponent's four, but he was a below average defender. I actually feel much better about Nesbitt having to guard the opponents 4 in in the few cases we actually will match up with teams that play two traditional bigs together.

  3. If Perkins was going to play wing, this would be true. However he was going to play the 4 most of the time on defence. Meaning that in most cases he would match up against the second largest player and help defend the post. Perkins strength isn't defence, but at 6,6 and 215+ with his added strength and experience, he is the best we had. We really don't have the depth at the 5, to play Okoro or Linssen at much at the 4. That leaves TJ at 6,4 and 215., and Nesbitt at 6,6 200. Offensively, we can do things to take advantage of our speed and athleticism, assuming we shoot 3s well. But on D, we are going to be undersized. A smaller athletic 4 can defend well, but it takes finesse, knowing when your feet can leave the floor, taking charges and knowing your apposing players tendencies. Stopping a taller heavier player, like French will be a problem. Some matchups are going to be very difficult for us. Our 5s are going to have to be careful not to pick up fouls when trying to help our 4s on defence.

From the same developer who renovated the Steelcote building nearby. https://www.stltoday.com/business/local/target-to-anchor-60-million-midtown-st-louis-apartment-development/article_9d7ff8b7-d33e-536f-bcb4-43bcbb9ea6a8.html#tracking-source=home-top-story-1

  11. This is it. You don't replace Perkins. You figure out the best fit, the best rotations and move onward. We have played a 4 guard offense for the past few years. In the A10, maybe a team or two plays with a center, two true forwards and two guards, but those are few and far between. You can put whatever label you want to on Perkins, he was going to play on the wing just like he did the past two seasons. The one player we could least afford to lose was Perkins. He was going to be the guy who had the ball in his hands in the final possession. He is the one who was going to average close to 20 points per game. As you wrote, he was the one who you look for to blow open a game. He was the one who was going to play 30 minutes a game. We can't replace Perkins, so we move forward with what we have. There are 30 extra minutes available. I think the only given is that Collins is now the foundation of the team. The rest of the team will fit in as they deserve to. Nothing is off limits. Play small, play big, play fast, play slow. Coach said earlier this preseason that he doesn't worry about matching up with the opponent, but he wants the opponent to match up with us. That may be a bit more difficult now, but I look for Coach to keep the upper hand on matchups.

  12. how good would claggett and highmark and waldman have been if they had linssen and okoro as their inside guys? my point is, we have enough size. we just have to play right and utilize the tools correctly that we have.

  13. I’m not worried about the defense. Like Roy said, Javonte was never a plus defender at the 4. I’m more concerned that we no longer have that “go-to” guy on the offensive end. We don’t have that player you can just give the ball to when you need a bucket late in the game. Just think about his performance against LSU; he was going bucket-for-bucket with Cam Thomas, an NBA draft pick. Nesbitt definitely has the tools to become that guy, but that’s not guaranteed. Gibson has the shooting, but he doesn’t have the finishing and seems to lack the ability to create off the dribble. TJ is a possibility with his improved offensive game but he still needs to take a leap. Yuri has to prove that he can make outside shots regularly. Williams is still unproven. Obviously the team will be okay and will find a way, but there’s still a lot of question marks offensively

  20. I'd wager that no team has suffered more adversity than SLU in the last decade. Other posters mentioned the string of issues we've had to deal with but Situations 1 & 2, Majerus, Covid year 1, Covid year 2, Ford Stuen, JP's ACL, hell even the Carteare Gordon situation applies - elite level player that turned out to be a giant bust. I hate to throw a pity party but man we can't catch a break.

  23. my guess is that is on Bob. did he ask danny to look? when my kids were picking colleges i insisted that they at least look at Saint Louis University and consider that as their college destination. My son bought off and has done very well imo with his SLU Diploma. My daughter went elsewhere but she too has done very well. i always wonder if she had gotten the presidential scholarship which she was a finalist for, would she have went to slu? maybe. regardless she's a success and mom and dad are still proud even though she is the only non billiken in our family.

  24. i agree with skip. the nfl or the owner(s) concerned have f'd st louis twice now. with the rams, the fans were coming out pretty consistently if i remember correctly until maybe the last year after the announcement they were leaving. so why should st louis go through the heartache again? plus you just know it isnt ALL going to be provided. there will be a cost of another franchise comes in. we dont need it. i would much rather get the convention center paid off and renovated to maximize that operation. i would much rather the soccer field be debt free. clean up areas of the area use the money to truly help the metro area not set up another rich guy to turn on us, get rich and leave again.

  26. This may sound silly, but getting a Target is huge. It shows a major corporation already familiar with the region has faith long term in the midtown area. It is the type of move that will draw in more investment to the area as some national corporations that were hesitant to invest will follow Target's lead.

  27. My good friend, classmate from SLU Law, and colleague, a true "Man of the People," once told me from his experience as an attorney that the two things that most concern people are: (1) Defeating their ex (if applicable), and (2) Keeping their driver's license. Elements in St. Louis are still at Stage 1, the Jilted Lover Syndrome. It's been 5 years; it's time to get over it and move forward. St. Louis, the #23 TV market, is still a major US City, the largest metropolitan area in Missouri. St. Louis needs NFL Football, needs its name, its views of The Arch, of Union Station, the Anheuser-Busch Brewery, et al. out there every Sunday in the Fall/Winter months. A major league city like St. Louis belongs in the National Football League. The lawsuit is ripe for settlement. This may well be St. Louis' Last Chance Saloon for the forseeable and later future re the NFL. As a 25 year former Oakland Raiders Season Ticket Member, I know full well all about the National Football League. Remember something known as "The Tuck" in the blizzard that Saturday night in Foxborough? More recently I was there for NFL Referee Gene Steratore pulling out an index card in Oakland to save the Dallas Cowboys that Sunday night. But even with all its issues, the NFL is still the Nation's Football League for American Football. There is no AFL any longer; it merged into the NFL in 1966, fully effective in 1970. There has never been an American football league since to challenge the NFL. Nor will there likely ever be one. The way these NFL lawsuits are settled is to award a team to the jilted city. There would be more involved here, such as a monetary payout, perhaps pay off the Dome, perhaps league assistance in financing the renovation of the Dome or in building a new stadium. But get the team in the settlement. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

  29. I'm not necessarily counting on JP to come back, but I wouldn't be totally surprised. IMO it is unlikely we'll even get a sniff from NBA teams as an training camp invite coming off an ACL tear much less actually make an NBA roster. We just witnessed first hand how difficult that process is with Goodwin. His choices would be to play hope to make a G League roster as an unaffiliated player & make an impact, go play overseas, or come back to SLU. Based on a KSDK piece on Perkins, I recall him being pretty close to his mom. I could see him not wanting to go overseas even though that might be the most lucrative option. That leaves G League or coming back. Since he already came back once (sort of), maybe he still thinks having a great season at SLU is his best NBA chance.

  32. I'd be very (pleasantly) surprised to see JP in a Billiken uniform again, but if he can convince himself it's a better path to the NBA than foreign ball and he sees the value in graduating with a Masters or better from SLU then maybe it'll happen. And maybe he just wants his chance to prove what he was ready to do for us this year.

  39. Here is the problem with getting another team like the Chargers - I also like the unis - or an expansion team, the NFL will not let a community own another team like in Green Bay anymore so we would always be at the mercy of the owner who may or may not be committed to StL. Also, the stuff going on now with Kroenke trying to wiggle out of the responsibilities he accepted to get the approval only shows that contracts/agreements don't mean anything to the NFL/owners - see relocation rules debacle. Finally, how many times do want to keep accepting their apology and promise not to do it again - much like an abused wife does from their abusing husband - leopards do not change their spots. No thanks I have no interest in getting pissed on again.
