  4. I guarantee you that there isn’t a single coach in college basketball who doesn’t play their stars during exhibition games. The point of these games is to warm up and start to develop some chemistry before the season begins. Freak injuries happen unfortunently. Nothing wrong with Ford

  7. It happened in the first half. Perkins played 10 minutes. He probably would've played about 10 more the rest of the game. No matter how much you're up, no matter how much you expect to win by, taking your star out after 10 minutes is not something I've seen any coach do, ever. Putting this on Ford is absurd.

  8. I had a slight tear in my MCL and was back slamming beers and hitting dingers on the slow pitch softball field 2 weeks later. Since this is obviously the same level of competition as high end D1 hoops 1 don’t see why it would be any different for Perkins. Either way Mr. Perkins has my T and Ps.

  15. totally agree. imo nesbit showed pretty well. he exhibited skills and traits only once in a lifetime players can do. what was rough was a shot and patience. the patience will come with coaching and experience. the shot is anyone's guess. but imo he is the goodwin replacement at the very least. i wouldnt be surprised how good this kid turns out. the best trait was his effort, intensity and hustle. the kid doesnt take time off. couple that with that incredible athleticism and desire to play he's a winner. just give him some time. in the same sense, i think the same can be said about okoro. the fact that these two might end up by march as our two best players says a lot about this roster's depth and potential imo. i remain pretty darn excited for the billikens.

  16. I think the idea that Nesbit was disappointing is misplaced. He looked a little nervous to start and forces a few things but settled down and impressed me. he is very athletic and has a great basketball build. He appeared to be the second best ballhandler on the team. If and I do mean if Perkins can't go for awhile we will see a lot more of Nesbit and TJ on the floor together.

  17. The interesting thing I saw in the article is that one owner, his quote via a source, said that they would not have approved the Rams move if Kroenke did not agree to cover the legal fees. Translation, they knew what they were doing was improper when they were doing it and were counting on a lawsuit.

  28. I've been thinking for a while about an interesting strategy for the NFL to resolve this matter. There is a concept in the law called "mitigation of damages." It essentially means that if a person who is claiming they are damaged sues, the defendant can argue that they tried to make things right or that the plaintiff had an opportunity to make things right, but that the plaintiff didn't take advantage of that opportunity. Instead, the plaintiff just counted on making a bunch of money in the lawsuit. The classic law school example is that someone hits your boat. Your boat slowly sinks over the course of a week. You could have driven the boat across the marina and had it repaired for $100, but you didn't. You just let it sink. The defendant in that situation can successfully argue that it only owes $100, the repair costs, and not the full value of the boat. I've heard rumors that the NFL offered the St. Louis legal team the Chargers to settle the case. St. Louis rejected the offer. Not that I'm cheering for the NFL to get out of this, but I think the NFL, to limit its damages, should just give St. Louis the Chargers. "Here you go. The Chargers now play in St. Louis. You have no choice in the matter. They are now the St. Louis Chargers." Spanos can still own the team here. We had a team with an owner before the dispute. Now we have a team with an owner after the dispute. The Chargers would play in the Dome since that is what we had before. The damages that St. Louis can claim significantly diminish to what we spent to try to keep the Rams. I know many in St. Louis say that they never want another NFL team, but if the NFL used this strategy, it could, potentially, save itself a lot of money.

  29. As this was an exhibition game ...no spread or forecast. Post game there are not a whole lot of conclusions you can draw. As a Div II team Rockhurst is not in our league. But there are still numbers to look at. Let's look at a few. First the slash.....43.5% /57.5 /24.1 / 65.4....raw slash....30-69 /23-40 /7-29 / 17-26 Graded slash.........C..../....A+ / F- / F+ Again this is an exhibition but a few things stand out in this game...We can shoot 2's but not 3s...hopefully the 3s will improve as the year progresses....also we still seem to be weak at the FT line...again, hopefully this too improves. If our numbers stay high inside the arc we will have to shoot much better from the 3 pt line to justify taking the extra risk of the 3 pt shot. For instance, if we were to continue to shoot at 57.5% from 2pt range , we would have to shoot 38.3% from 3. ( an A+ rate from the arc) I don't expect us to continue to shoot at 57.5% going forward but it is not unthinkable to say we will be a good shooting team inside the arc. This means we will have to be more selective in 3s ...either by taking better 3s or being more selective as to who takes the 3s. Just something to think about going forward. Overall , an entertaining game except for the Perkins injury. The main take away from this exhibition was........To go see the kids play. Bottom line......LOUPOU......Lots Of Upside Potential Outcome Unknown

  31. i actually thought nesbit's shot was far more inconsistent than at anytime in goodwin's career. nesbit's shot was a different release, trajectory, spin, etc every time he let it fly. i always thought goodwin's form looked fine, but his arch was terribly in consistent and his selection opportunities were not the best. but from a strictly mechanical look, i'd take freshman goodwin slightly over last night's nesbit. but as i said above there wasnt much else he didnt do as good or better than everyone on the team. one time he was trapping on the bench side of the floor the ball was reversed, the rockhurst player took a dribble up the cross court side of the floor went to reverse his progress and was met by nesbit who had sprinted across the floor to stunt on a trap. it was beautiful. i am big fan of that defensive technique and loved seeing it. twice he came from behind to block shots on help defense and his head was by the rim and his arm up near the square. wow. he had an in the lane pass late in the game that if i hadnt seen him throw it and collins was out of the game, i would have sworn it was a yuri pass. my point is, just because nesbit didnt score 40 points, there is nothing to get down about. he's a player. it's just a matter of time.

  35. Roy, we look good every year when running and pushing the tempo against teams like Rockhurst. If every team on our schedule was Rockhurst, that is definitely the way to go. The problem is that our new guys play in these early games and think that this is just like AAU where everyone plays like that. Then they get into a real game against a real opponent and struggle looking like chickens running around with their heads cut off (which by the way, they looked like several times last night against an inferior opponent). I was finding myself wishing last night that Ford would have instructed them not to do that for about ten minutes and just work on the half court offense.

  36. Last night at the game, after the Perkins injury had me in a bad place, I commented that Nesbitt's offensive game did not seem very polished. I still stand by that, but when I got up this morning I remembered that I thought the same thing about Jordan Goodwin after his first few games. He seemed to turn out okay. Outside of not being "polished" offensively, everything about Nesbitt's game last night was worthy of us being excited. His defensive was outstanding. His rebounding was good. He showed flashes of being able to be the primary ball handler and set guys up, although that was mainly in transition. If he improves his shooting over time, he will have all the tools to be a superstar in my opinion.

  37. Alright… positive vibes. its going to be ok. there was an article last night on stltoday that said “Perkins left the arena on crutches after spending the second half in the locker room and said he felt pain when he was injured but was not experiencing any as he left for the night. He is expected to undergo further testing Wednesday morning.” so let’s cross the bridge when we come to it. someone said there was a picture of it, but I wasn’t able to find it (albeit, it was not a strong effort on my part to find it)

  38. rockford was so much less talented. we could have beat them by a hundred points and held them under 10 if we played all out and kept the starters in. so not a lot of what we saw last night can be gospel. imo it can change a lot when we see an even match up. speaking of starters, i was surprised by linssen starting. but he showed he deserved the opportunity. he and yuri were imo the two best players on the floor last night. both appeared so much more prepared and did the jobs we wanted. we are really lucky with our inside situation which could have been a concern losing future billiken hof french to graduation. collins was spectacular. great passes we expected, scoring we likely didnt. but most impressive is i thought he played better on the ball defense then we have ever seen from him. okoro came in and showed he is a tireless hard worker. rebounding and defending. i loved french, but okoro might be french upgraded. his offense has some work to do, but this guy is a player imo. yuri's backup situation is a little more murky. jones did fine in a carlos mccauley sort of way, but he is far from being yuri. in a real game, i suspect if yuri is out we will go to nesbitt who handled the point most of the last 5 minutes. nesbitt is pretty darn good with the ball and sees the floor well. had some really nice passes. besides his point duties, nesbitt played pretty much every position on the floor. he rebounds and he plays hard. he is imo goodwin's replacement. he didnt start last night and imo that was the right decision. his shot is very inconsistent mechanically and he has a tendency to rush the game. did i tell you how hard nesbitt plays? might have had the best effort on the team last night. and that is saying something because the main 8 or 9 guys got it and they all play hard. i feel nesbitt will be a star, but he has some work to do with how he approaches offense and of course that shot. but he is going to be fun to watch. count on it. what appeared to be the most improved player from last year was jimerson. in warmups if he missed more than 2 shots i missed it. he played really well and worked for himself to find openings and opportunities. he played very good defense and got after it. one steal he had led to a length of the court drive and finished with a dunk. at this time, i say jimerson has to start. which is saying a lot considering all the options we have on the wing. thatch played hard as we expect and he was right there with okoro as the rebounding stud. he just does stuff right and we lose nothing when fred thatch is in the game. man i got a feeling deciding who are our wings is going to be harder as the year goes on. if jimerson isnt the most improved, hargrove is. he no longer is the lost puppy wandering around the court on defense. and he is active on offense and got his dunks and open 3's. having that kind of athleticism out there is huge. perkins was perkins when he was in. we have no question marks about him if he is healthy. we just have to pray he is ok. imo those are our rotation players. i can see williams maybe getting into the rotation. he made a few nice 3's, but it seemed he isnt on the same intensity level as the above players. he has work to do imo to be a serious PT player. but what a luxury to have a skilled shooter like that so far down the list. the rest imo once we get through the buy games are likely practice and blow out players. considering lorentson showed he can shoot it and strickland showed he is an athlete in the same class as hargrove and nesbitt, it only reflects the depth the team has. traore might turn into a player as he has length and he too is an athlete, but he is obviously far behind okoro and linssen and it will take both of them being out for his to see the floor once we get past buy games. jones might be better than russell but unfortunately for him this roster is so strong he isnt going to see but spot appearances as well imo. band had masks on their horns. wow. i've seen it all now. fun night. and i think we are in for a fun year.
