  1. In no particular order: If someone repeatedly posted in SLU basketball threads saying how much they dislike basketball, and SLU Men's basketball, many people on the board would respond negatively or ignore, and consider you a board troll. Of course you mean to be a troll. That's what you have been doing. It's okay to step up and own it. It's one thing to want more success of a SLU sport. It's another to negatively say a sport is boring to you, or not as popular as other sports (you really don't have a good grasp of various sport popularity) as if the kids should only follow the most popular crowd. And yet, here you are again, reading threads, commenting, watching what you dislike so much and find boring. Blink twice if the person next to you still has a gun to your head. "Inconsequential" What is the cut off date that schools can honor past success? Is there a particular year when history is allowed to begin? I will just let your sexist mysogony speak for itself. Yes, every college basketball game is played exactly the same as the UCLA vs Gonzaga game. 100% of the time. You mentioned Georgetown and UMass to say they got lucky one time. When it gets pointed out to you that neither is a one hit wonder in soccer and hockey, as you are not aware of the landscape, you curmudgeonly say oh those sports aren't popular anyway. It's pretty interesting because American Football has the highest ratings in the U.S., yet here you are. You then say you don't have an understanding of soccer, while quickly (again) pivoting to saying with convincing authority that your opinion is of the majority. Seems to be quite the battle going on in your head. This was a lot of words to say you want to be accepted by the popular kids. You want to be an included supporter of the teams that win the most. Or more simply put, you could have said that you wished SLU Men's Basketball won more games, as opposed to trolling one of the more successful sports at SLU. Maybe start a new thread for one of those things. Perhaps supporting one of the several schools you mentioned in your various posts would be a better fit for you. SLU has two soccer teams. This is one of the two main soccer threads. That's it. Two threads, clearly labeled. Many people who read this thread and/or post in this thread would be happy and willing to have an objective soccer discussion with anyone of sincerity.

  2. The way we should spin all of these are as local kids that weren't overhyped and would have thrived if they had picked SLU.

  3. They play a little like the USWNT. They’re not necessarily looking to win the time of possession battle. The want to put pressure on you, constantly attacking. When they lose possession they want to turn you back over quickly and then attack again.

  4. .... Then stay out of the thread.... Nobody cares that you don't like soccer. Some of us are interested in following the team. What a stupid run of post.

  5. Alot of prior discussions about our players and coaches, player development and how hard it is to change one’s game. Doesn’t appear to have been much development of Watson by Cuonzo Martin or by Watson himself. Not seeing much development of other players in Columbia either. And when I read your comments about Watson being a 6’4”, talented, 4 star guy struggling in high level D1 with limited dribbling and perimeter skills still relying upon what worked in high school, I think of a different 6’4” talented guy of our own who appears to be excelling in high level D1 by changing himself into a completely different player than the successful one he was in high school - Terrance Hargrove.

  6. So why do you post? Everything you said could also be said about the men’s basketball team. Yet somehow we still support them. It’s like you’re trolling the soccer fans. Your understanding of the soccer landscape nationally is flawed.

  8. SLU's games via FSMW were a available on ESPN+ in any market this past season without blackouts.

  9. It was an inefficient 37, on 10-27 shooting. There are mediocre high major programs where you can chuck up 20 shots a game, but playing for Cuonzo isn't one of them.

  10. They did skew his numbers but we may have lost that game without him showing out.

  12. I wasn't being critical of Hargrove and I am a big fan of the kid, I just think saying he is excelling with his fairly limited production is a step too far. I didn't realize he actually played fewer minutes this season than his freshman season. It is actually kind of odd comparing the two as the numbers kind of show him having a better freshman season outside of that 3 point %. Doesn't matter, we seemingly all agree Hargrove is a guy we are excited to see the next two seasons.

  13. I think Hargrove is on the path most quality College players take. He comes in as a freshman and get spot minutes while learning the system and what he needs to do. Sophomore season, earn more minutes and improve on what you learned as a freshman. Junior year big contributor. Senior year even bigger contributor. I think this is how most players should develop at the college level. The problem is that the Bills haven’t been deep enough to develop players this way. We have been forced to throw freshman into big minute. With the depth they have now they can develop players properly. This isn’t the method for all players but I think most fit into this mold.

  17. Do you refer to the SLU Men’s basketball team as Boys basketball? It’s Women. I am not sure I understand the reference to Georgetown soccer and UMass hockey. Georgetown is both a Men and Women’s soccer power. UMass won the National Title in Men’s hockey and they were runner up two years ago. As has been mentioned, I don’t think you have strong understanding of the college soccer landscape. If you are having a conniption about SLU’s soccer programs, wait until you hear about its Men’s hoops team. Same coach five seasons, and zero top 3 regular season league finishes. And, he’s been considered a popular success by many.

  18. They claim most sporting events will move to USA Network with some niche events going to Peacock TV. I expect most non-marquee games will move to Peacock TV Premium ($4.99/month) to drive viewers to their paid model. The end result will be another $5 per month for viewers like us. If you haven’t noticed already, the streaming model of content delivery is quickly becoming more expensive for sports fans.

  19. Do you mean those specific schools/teams? Or do you mean smaller conference non-Power 5/Big East teams? (Because there are about a dozen of them in the top 25). SLU hasn't been a Men's soccer power in many years. They are hoping to get back to that. They were expected to win the league and win the conference tourney. They finished 2nd in the league, and, they lost in the Conference Tourney Semifinals. They finished below expectations. They were good at times this year. Their problems developed when they couldn't or didn't score enough goals in games they otherwise were in position to win. That happened today. It was a lot or a little this year game to game. Flashes but not consistent enough, finding ways to lose a few close games while winning convincingly in some others. Fordham had far less chances but they converted two of them. SLU hasn't been a consistent NCAA team in over a decade. And when they were a consistent NCAA team prior to that, you have to go back about 18 years and prior when SLU was making consistent deeper NCAA Tourney runs. Donigan was no longer getting deeper NCAA runs. McGinty was no longer getting consistent NCAA's. This is Kalish' 3rd season. It hasn't been quick success. But SLU has a young team with some positives too.

  22. I enjoyed the women's game today. But a thrice-time undefeated champion in the A10 MUST move on or what does it matter? We are a girl's soccer power in the A10. Which could be seen as a big fish in a tiny pond. Shields and company now need to do more. First Davidson. The men need to give up the ghost as far as anything meaningful in the national consciousness. I don't care that Georgetown won a national title last year just like I don't care Umass won a Frozen Four this year. The sports don't matter to me. But that's me .... as we all know by now. If you can't beat Fordham, George Washington, and dominate the A10, competing with the likes of Maryland, Virginia, Stanford, North Carolina and Indiana are pipe dreams. I don't care that Fordham made an Elite Eight ..... that's like Abilene Christian making a Sweet Sixteen. Or Loyola. happens. Not only are we not even going to the Dance, we didn't win our lowly conference as predicted. Just another men's soccer failure.
