  1. Weaver saved our bacon a couple of times i wouldn’t say it didn’t work

  2. The big we want might already be on the roster. Diarra is a mystery man as little as he played and as little as he was talked about. He is one large man and maybe he is the guy Ford wants and already has

  3. Solid points. But with the amount of small ball being played these days French could find himself on a roster. All it takes is one team to like him and give him a chance. He's similar to Montrez Harrell when he 1st entered the league as well as Kenneth Faried. Imagine French off the bench for the Rockets or Warriors with all that spacing on the court. He would be a solid pickup for the Suns as well. They need that kind of energy off the bench. Having said that...I think coming back another year boosts his stock for playing professionally.

  4. Speaking of which, updating his slashline through 15 games this season (which is now on hold and likely done), he's at .553/.454/.850 - 1.857. Still a solid 180 shooter. Full stats: 15 games, 25.8 MPG, 17.7 PPG, 6.1 RPG, 3.3 APG, 0.8 SPG, 0.1 BPG, 2.3 TPG, 1.5 FPG. Full shooting: 94-170 FG (.553), 44-97 3FG (.454), 34-40 FT (.850). He finished first in minutes, FGM, and rebounds (offensive, defensive, and total), and second in MPG, 2FG%, 3FG%, FTM, assists, scoring average, and total points. His team finished with just one loss, a 100-98 OT loss.

  5. I'll roll the dice on 180 shooters all day. I don't care what part of the world they came from.

  6. My whole point was that WVBilliken was labeling our foray into international recruiting to be littered with busts when our experience with international recruits has not been anywhere close to a failure.

  7. French is testing the waters....so Russell isn't a priority right now. If Phillip can wait till the roster situation is more clearer he would be a great addition.

  8. Talk about experiencing the worst of times and the best of times in Billiken basketball. Glad that you guys have good seats to enjoy the Billiken revival.

  9. stating the obvious, there aren't many quality big men available.....one thing that is obvious to me. is that Ford likes player who can be elite at doing at least 1 thing.....Russell, may have his deficiencies, but he is an elite shooter, described by Frank Cusumano as the best in the state, by far.....skill plays, yet is continually overlooked by many....if he can hit 40+ percent of his 3's, he would be a very valuable asset.....and lastly, Weaver was a poor ball handler, Russell is apparently pretty good at handling and distributing the ball, and doesn't seem to have a problem being a complimentary player....

  10. Im with you in the fact we really dont really need him, but im thinking coaching is seeing it as: Hargrove only shot 27% Jimerson is coming off a foot injury Jacobs will be a junior and has a history of disappearing Lorentsson has rarely been seen(?) Fred - who knows Plus the kid has ties to Kern/other STL 20/21 kids He can also be a back up pg to Yuri and a upperclassmen Jacobs and goodwin. Just when you think you have enough weapons, you can quickly find yourself with a short bench. Its happened 3 straight years here. He checks a lot of boxes. I also wouldn't say it didn't work for weaver. He was never asked to do much.

  11. This is where we stand now. On Friday, March 13, 2020, the NCAA adopted emergency legislation to establish a temporary recruiting dead period for all NCAA Division I and II sports, effective immediately, and in effect until at least April 15, 2020. Accordingly, the Collegiate Commissioners Association (CCA) has suspended all National Letter of Intent (NLI) signings until at least April 15, 2020. This suspension will be re-evaluated on or before April 15, 2020. The NLI suspension applies to both Division I and II NLI member institutions. As such, NLI’s cannot be issued to Division I and II prospective student-athletes effective March 16, 2020 through at least April 15, 2020. NLI’s issued and signed by prospective student-athletes before March 16, 2020 should still be managed through the normal validation process with the conference office. So basically they're going to reevaluate on April 15th and my guess is it will be pushed back further at that time or even sooner.

  12. Myself and @Pistol have finally finished our write up for this season. It's about a 26 minute read so it's a long one. As you will hear on Wednesday's episode we were initially going to have Carter Chapley involved as well but schedules have been hectic with everything going on, and 26 minutes already feels long enough. You can read this blog at the link below: https://www.bigredworld.org/post/2019-2020recap If you have comments, thoughts, hated what I said, etc. I will be on here for another hour or two to talk this blog with everyone on here as well. With this pandemic cutting short seasons or canceling them altogether, we know there is a vacuum of Billikens content so here's hoping we can fill this somewhat. Coming the next few weeks we will have what looks like two interviews per week, plus a couple of other shows that we have been developing. The schedule as it stands is in concrete: - Former Billiken Aaron Burg on Wednesday - Jack Raboin Part One Friday - Jack Raboin Part Two Next Wednesday (4/1) These are the ones I'm confident posting about at this time but we have a lot more on the way to hopefully make this more bearable. Look for more updates on our show schedule Wednesday.

  13. Bess not only was an elite defensive player but also a decent shooter and he did not make at least yet. Defense today won't be enough.

  14. There's room for Russell and a big. We have two guys on the roster that barely played last year. The staff could easily turn those spots into Russell and big TBD, if they so chose.

  15. French is absolutely elite on the defensive end. Maybe he can find a niche, others have found an nba roster with such talents

  18. Also, there is a sliding scale of what is meant by "international players" in terms of recruitment. Glaze played 3 of his 4 high school seasons in the US, all at different schools. So, even though he's from Canada, it's not like recruiters were taking a flier on him. Same for Agbeko who had played 2 years of high school ball followed by one at a prep school. Diarra and Neufeld both had one year at a US prep school to hone their skills and prove their ability and become more of a known quantity to recruiters domestically. Ingvi and Andre are obviously completely international. Can't speak to the others, but it seems like bundling all "international" students together just doesn't really make any sense - some are much more known quantities than others.

  19. You and me both. The Recruiting Lists got a full update yesterday and this morning. That's just known names; I'm doing a little more research later to see if there's anything new floating out there.

  20. Why would we want a 5’ 10” three point shooter (didn’t work so well w Weaver) when we already have 6’5” Jimerson, 6’5” Hargrove, 6’6” Perkins, 6’2” Jacobs and now 6’8” Lorentsson? We need a big in 2020 and a PG in 2021 when Yuri is a JR.

  22. Absolutely no chance Has averages 5-6 assists per game. I'd bet as we add Jimerson to the mix the amount they double and triple Has goes down. Even if they double him every touch he won't exceed 5 assists per game. Otherwise good read

  24. Just heard that a player had an exchange with Pitino that went like this, “Young man, my name is Rick Pitino, Iona College.” The player replied, “OK, which one?”

  25. I hate to be the self promoting type but we’ve covered a lot of the moments listed here in depth with the guys that lived it. Cassity, Ellis, Evans, Drejaj, Harris, Conklin. We should be adding at least 3 new interviews in the next month and hopefully one is another spoonball alum who played with Larry Hughes. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-house-that-rick-built/id1450098755

  26. Goodwin reminds me of former Syracuse point forward Paul Harris, a 6-5 230 lb specimen who excelled at bully ball. He played from 2006-2009 when the Big East was arguably the deepest league in college basketball. His best season was 14.5 ppg 8.2 rpg 3.3 apg 1.7 spg as a sophomore. Was invited to Utah Jazz preseason camp as an undrafted free agent but got injured the week before camp.

  27. I watched him at Crispus Attucks HS in Indy. His triple double season in the NBA was the GOAT. It was much tougher to do in 1962 than it is today.
