  1. Roy. Now you’re being unfair. you blame Ford for PG development? What coach would look good for point guard development if you removed, unexpectedly, his returning point guatrd in Bishop as well as his back up in Ty Graves. And instead of saying these guys are permanently gone, leading the Coach on through the next recruiting season and then letting him know, after recruits have already committed. Now, as to development, if you ask me did Isabell get better under Ford - I would say most definitely - especially after considering we were his third school in four years. Has Goodwin developed under Coach Ford? Most definitely especially considering he never played point guard before SLU. Despite S2, Coach Ford wins the A10 Tournament, takes us to the NCAA tournament, brings in a monster recruiting class and he now needs defending 2 months prior to our first game? Wow Who was the coach Ford supposed to develop and what did Coach Ford do wrong? He made due w Roby and Hines, he went w Goodwin and Isabell after losing Bishop and Graves, he now brings in Yuri and Weaver to help Goodwin... Just wait for Coach Ford to actually make a mistake and then watch as his critics continue their attacks..

  2. https://www.scoopswithdannymac.com/billikens-sophomore-guard-demarius-jacobs-is-ready-to-take-the-next-step/ There is some interesting stuff in here, including some issues with last season. Jacobs has added 30 pounds in the year+ he has been on campus. Chapley says Jacobs has been a reliable distributor and ball handler in practice when they run, and that he is playing the pressure point on the ball when they press. Keep the great information coming Carter.

  3. Roy, Majerus was a genius at coaching the physics of the game, and also having a technical understanding of the intricacies. He would know each of the players’ stride lengths when dribbling at varied speeds while in a half court offense, and he would lay tape on the floor to show the bigs how to position at each side of the top of the key. He would spend ten minutes telling Loe where to set depending on the forward in the paint, and how Loe needed to stand to pin his man inside the cut, putting his feet just so, putting his arms just so, and putting his hips and shoulders just so, all so he could catch a pass, square up and shooting minimal time and motion, all while at the same time pinning his man and blocking the cutter’s(Jett his senior year)man. Majerus would then switch over and teach the cutters, showing them how to take the steps so they would have an inch separation around the cut, all the way from hip to shoulder. He would walk them through, then he would run them through it, then they would dribble and run through it, then they would scrimmage through it. When they would hit game time, they had it down so cold that they could immediately recognize when it would work, and they would hit it hard. It helped that Conklin, Loe, Agbecko, and Ellis could all do the screen right, and Loe and Ellis had to have their man sit on them, before and after the cut. Majerus taught this at the PhD level, Ford to this point is at the bachelors level. Drew Hanlon is making lots of money teaching the pro guards to do some of Majerus’ tricks at a masters level. This stuff is not easy to learn well, and hard to smoothly incorporate unless you get it drilled into you at the level where you can learn it.

  4. I'm at today's game a Pelicans vs Spurs. Bess isn't out shooting yet.

  5. Spot on. There is a difference with being dissatisfied with playing time and believing that you deserve playing time rather than being willing to compete for it.

  6. If Jacobs and Hankton were happy and satisfied with their playing time last year I would not want either one on my team this year

  7. We have had a triple success with # recruiting players who are physical studs # these players love and are committed to working hard in the weight room # these players learned early how to defend multiple positions. These are why I see Ford pivoting over more to facilitate the 4-1. As long as you can beat up the opposition on the boards and on d, you are in most games. The roster holes are significant, the recruiting reaches for a backup 10 mpg center who was weight limited and an injured senior who didn’t play illustrate the struggles even a well above average recruiting staff Face. It will be interesting to see how Ford starts the season, and evolves the team. As Goodwin drove Althoff to the state finals, so did Hargrove and Collins for their respective teams. If they can replicate a similar smooth transfer to SLU, we can be a dark horse in conference.

  8. December might be a little early for all the new, and unproven, pieces to come together. Ford's history at SLU, however, does show his teams play a lot better come mid Jan thru season's end.

  9. At this point without seeing the freshmen play (and still not knowing what we have in guys like Hankton and Jacobs) it is hard to know the likelihood of that statement, but I do think we are really lined up for 2020-21 to be a big season (for the reasons you identified) where we are competing to win the A-10 and hopefully make some noise in March. So I agree, but will feel like I have better idea of what our future looks like (and the chances of 2021 being a Sweet 16 caliber team) come December.

  10. it came from me. don't understand what you don't understand. I think if we have no departures, injuries before the season starts we have more qualified players than we have minutes to keep them all happy with their amount of minutes.
