  1. Isabell isn’t the problem, the offense that Ford is trying to run is the problem. They need to push the pace far more than they are currently. There is no bebefit to slowing down the offense when the two guys you have trying to run the point are not traditional point guards. He is setting them both up for failure.

  2. Knew people would lose their s*** at this thread. Does everyone see the “?” on the end of the thread title? I’m not saying Ford is an awful coach. I’m not saying he should be fired. We all think he has done a great job to revitalize this program in just three years. But since when are we not allowed to question a coach when there’s a consistent problem (turnovers and offense) that isn’t getting fixed? Ford is not the supreme leader. Your fandom is not revoked for asking questions about his performance as an in-game coach. It’s funny to me that many of the posters bashing this thread were saying our chances at an A10 championship were over after the Troy and Northern Alabama games.

  3. im not ready to throw in the towel on isabell. the kid is fearless and does have some skills. he just needs to be put into a position he can succeed. that is on ford to do. the likes of him turning into allen iverson or kyrie irving is a tough expectation and that is what has been thrust on him with the offense we are utilizing.

  5. Roy, your qualifier that the A-10 champ also have a NET in the 80s is the real problem here. Almost by definition, any of the top 5 non-conference performers from the A-10 (SLU, VCU, Davidson, Dayton, St. Joes) can go 15-3 or 16-2 and they will end up with a NET in the 30-50 range. It would take one of the real bottom dwellers from non-con turning it around by going 15-3 for their end of season NET to be in the 80s. Look at the Billikens and their Pomeroy ranking right now. He has us as #76 overall and predicts us to go 21-10 and 12-6 in conference. Put differently, if we do that we'll likely still be in the 70-80 range per his model. So what do you think will happen to our ranking if we win 4 games more than the predicts and end up 25-6? We are going to be ranked much higher, probably in the 30-40 range. Safely in the NCAA at-large range.

  7. I'm not ready to write off our offensive woes as system problems. All college teams need to have the threat of three pointers to win. I believe that the system we have is to work the ball inside out, meaning get the ball to French or Gordon and then make the defense decide who to guard. If they don't double team our big, then our big makes a move and gets a basket maybe like 70% of the time. If they double, then the big's job is to kick it out to the open man for a three or an open drive through the lane. At the least, hitting the open man out of a double team inside throws the defense out of balance and should create easy points from smart positioning and passing after that first pass from the big. In this system, you can't take away all three aspects that working inside out creates. (1) If you don't double the big, the big get his chance to make a move and score. (2) if you double the big, and guard shooters outside, then you leave the lane open for a cutter to get a pass from the big and an easy basket. (3) if you double the big and crowd the lane to take away passes for easy layups, you leave the three point line open. SIU-C chose, appropriately, to double the big and crowd the lane. It's the smart move when a team can't hit their threes. Until we start hitting our shots, we are going to continue to have this problem. Again, no college team can have any sort of successful offensive scheme if it cannot hit outside shots. When we ran this offense last year and the beginning of this year and it worked, everyone loved it. Now that teams are figuring out that their best bet defensively is to make us hit outside shots, it's not working as well. It's not because the scheme is wrong. It's because our guys aren't hitting shots. Once we do, if we do, it will the open up the other aspects of this offense back up and we will be scoring in the 70s and 80s. It's very lazy to suggest that we should just fast break. Every fan who's team is not scoring says the same thing, "we should run more." It's not that simple. A team may only give a 3-5 real opportunities a game to fast break into points. Could we do a better job on the break out, yes. Can we get more points per game simply by saying "fast break more," no. I think that the problem with our offense is guys not positioning themselves properly once the ball goes inside. That is something that the coaches can help them with, but I also think the guys are coached what to do and then not doing it. I think our shots are going to start falling, especially if they get in the right position to get a clear square shot at the basket. That's what our offensive system calls for. It's just not happening yet.

  8. i dont mind "hero ball" if it is from a player capable. love the enthusiasm and confidence. again the problem is the way we attack. not the attackers. too often when the go button is pushed it is with too little time to develop anything or the ball is in the wrong hands or the wrong spot. that is why the likes of last year hines and now isabell come out looking selfish when in reality what choice did they have when it came time to go? this is on ford. i love his talent finding ability. he now needs to step up his x's and o's ability. he has the parts, use them correctly.

  9. What you’re saying is logical, but I just don’t think the regular season A-10 champ gets left out in the cold (assuming the champ goes through conf with only 2-3 losses).

  10. I've been watching and I do not like what I see and we have not played one game offensively that I have been pleased with other than offensive rebounds. I have asked what is the offense on every game? When it comes to coaching it is about both sides and the defense has been great and has won us games have you been watching? Defense is coaching too and having a team that can lock down other teams each game gives us a chance every game. You have to score to win and the offense is a mess but I am hoping for better things after 8 games but it won't happen with Bess and Wiley hurt. Happy Friday lets bounce back

  12. From reading this board you would think we are 1-7 instead of 6-2. Last year at this time we were 4-4 and one of the wins was Rockhurst. They just need to relax and hit some shots.

  13. Im not convinced that winning the regular season will be enough even with only 2-3 conference losses. Id feedl a lot more confident if we could win out the non conference from this point
