  1. But it was cool of Bo to hook us up with that big early lead, and the 2nd half surge to go up a bunch...oh, wait, it only works the other way? Wish Bo would have helped us recover on ball screens and shot in some threes. Bo probably talked Ron Baker into walking on at Wichita.
  2. Why should they consider size of school? Duke is one of the smallest ACCs. Isn't Butler really small? I've never been to Creighton's arena, but I've only heard good things. If you're into quantity, it certainly trumps Chaifetz--although I really like Chaifetz. Higher-ranked university, okay. But is Creighton poor academically? Omaha is a smaller market, but Creighton doesn't near the in-market competition. It's not like it's hard to get a SLU ticket. I'm wondering--I do not know--if Omaha's version of KPLR televises Creighton games regularly.
  3. He only mentioned the one NIT finalist...the one that won 27 games. (The other one was 21-12ish, I believe.) He said team, not teams. This could be the best SLU team in modern times. We’ll write more about this later, but I don’t think this group has to stand behind SLU’s NCAA Tournament teams in 1994, 1995, 1998 or 2000. Or, for that matter, the Rich Grawer-coached 1988-89 team, starring Anthony Bonner, that won 27 games and reached the final of the NIT Tournament. The 1989-90 team also went to the NIT finals, and lost to Vanderbilt. The 27-win team lost to St. John's and limousine client Jayson Williams.
  4. Bernie only mentioned the 88-89 NIT Runner-up, and not the 89-90 team of the same fate. I would say it, but Spoonie_love will say it for us...
  5. True. And just because he eventually tires of Rammer's table manner doesn't mean he is, in fact, emotionally immature. Let's just get a big W tomorrow at Hinkle. I'll be tuned into none other than The Rammer, who is fantastic at play-by-play.
  6. I am with you...in regards to him acknowledging the fan. I am with you in regards to Rammer IF all he did was hear something, versus seeing something. If Boroski is as incompetent at his job as some on here are saying, one would wonder how he: gets 80 games a year; was hired by the Big Ten; has been assigned to NCAA Tournament games. What if it was the 3rd time Rammer did that during an official's call? (Is that hard to believe?) Ask Nate or Ben about proper table conduct. Like I said in a previous post, Boroski should have waited for a later stoppage to address whatever he felt compelled to address. But "emotional maturity" issues? I don't know the man like that. As a SLU fan, I was content to shoot more FTs than VCU, and be whistled for less fouls. As a SLU fan, I cringed a little when I saw the Big Lead coverage. Not a lot, but a little.
  7. Where did I say that? I'm simply saying that I bet Rammer *did* something, not *said* something. A gesture. And that, too, is overreacting. The table is for workers.
  8. I think it's silly to think this guy reacted to something Rammer said. I feel like it had to be something Rammer did. A gesture of some kind. And it was indeed former Cardinal and Dodger Tracy Woodson who ran Alford.
  9. Shouldn't Joe Maddon (upper right) be at Spring Training? Jim Crews was so miffed at the call, he immediately had a seat in the 2nd row, crossed his arms, and refused eye contact. Never seen that before. Shoulda been T'd.
  10. I know there was a separate call where the SLU player (Cory) was on Boroski's side of the call, unlike the pics above. The crowd went nutty. But those (great) pics make it evident the Rammer nuttiness was after the Evans thing. Great pics. I totally disagree with the "a good day reffing means you were invisible" thing. How do you accomplish invisibility? Visibility comes from the arguing, body language, etc, of players and coaches. Officials don't make a call and ask for opinions... These are funny, but they also unfortunately trickle down to Jr High "players", parents, and "coaches": http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/nba/photos/1302/nba-players-disagreeing-with-foul-calls/
  11. I totally agree with Skip's take on VCU's complaints, and a fair amount of other teams' for that matter. I'm biased as heck, but I think SLU often guards without fouling. They (Evans and Loe, in particular) do a great job of walling up and contesting shooters without bodying them with their base (ie, "the Conklin"). True, but offense isn't allowed to displace defense on its way to the open space. That's not a commentary on Kwamain's play, just generally speaking. A good HS trap can be fairly worthless bc, IMO, officials won't call the offense for charging through both inside hips of a legal trap/legal guarding position.
  12. I've never seen a better group at taking charges than this current SLU team. Loads of credit to the coaches, past and present. Remember the pre-charge taking defensive days of a current blue haired Billiken? That's great coaching. (And cognizant officiating too) That said, it amazes me how many college players jump to pass, fail to jump stop, fail to jump vertically...we religiously prey on bad fundamentals. A joy to watch.
  13. I'm not saying more favorable to SLU, just favorable relative to the way VCU plays. I don't think the refs held us back one bit--we destroyed a very good team. We shot 23 FTs. I was pleased. Late, Kwamain was trapped in the backcourt, and he basically threw his body into the trap in an effort to split it (I suppose). Kwam fell, VCU tied it up for a jump ball, and the place went crazy (on the refs/no call). Those are the sorts of plays where I cringe, but fans will be fans. I may have Remekun and Evans mixed up--not sure (Insert Guy reference). It was near the CBS table, on the student section side of half court. I want to say VCU was ball screening and Cory/Dwayne/Dwight grabbed the would-be screener.
  14. The official's name is Bo Boroski, and he does indeed do big games. Big Ten guy. If Rammer made a physical gesture, etc, then he's in the wrong because he's at the table. The table is for workers, not fans. If it was simply his voice/volume, that's different. I'm not saying he should've stop signed Rammer, though. A more subtle approach, perhaps during the next time out. As for the "he was on the other side of the court/too far to make the call", that is wrong. Remekun was holding the VCU player's right side, while the nearest official was just to the VCU player's left side. He couldn't see it, and Boroski could. You are supposed to look through and make that call. And it was the correct call. Proximity often does not lend to the best angle, especially when the players are of D-I size. I did see Boroski say something to a fan just a couple rows back of the table, and that surprised me. Big no-no. Eject him (if deserving) or ignore him. The fan and his friends got the biggest kick out of Boroski's acknowledgment--which is likely what they wanted. As a SLU fan, I thought we benefitted from the way the game was called. VCU was guilty on most, in my opinion, but I've got to think they've been allowed to play rougher before. Shaka sure seemed to think so as he pleaded for much of the first half, and during time outs. What an effort by the Billikens. http://statsheet.com/mcb/referees/bo-boroski
  15. If we're fortunate, The Pelican will report it in advance.
