Grandy Tweet

Recommended Posts

Who knows what will happen. If TL and RA ride the pines for most of the rest of the season and two more bigs coming in next year, chances are one of them will see no playing time in their future here and look for greener pastures. Crews may want 3 schollies for 2016. Grandy may even elect to pay his own way if that is possible under the rules.

If JC decides to keep GG around for one more year and give up the chance to sign someone for 4 years he is making a big mistake. The long term positive impact of a 4 year player out weighs anything GG could offer for one year.

+1

Grandy will definitely make a come back to college basketball. And he should. Just not here at SLU.

And even if 2 or 3 of our current players transfer, I still say no. Take a JUCO. Rebuild with another freshman. We have too many bigs as it is -- especially if Neufeld is a player. Sorry if this sounds crass, but I want to win and not just be nice. Counting scholarships per year is small minded. I thought we were beyond that -- but I guess not. The last thing we need is another limited role player guy with minimal skill. Are we trying to rebuild and win or are we trying to be nice? Brad was nice. RM was not. I pref the the RM years.

Comeback Players of the Year don't necessarily "comeback" with the same team. I still remember guys talking about Grandy giving 8 and 8 per game. Ain't gonna happen. Fine. Someone else can use it.

I am not completely read in on transfers and redshirts but it seems to me, you have to declare a redshirt year before the season starts, usually after the first exhibition game or when exhibitions are done. Otherwise, don't you have to apply for a medical redshirt year? Those require approval from the NCAA. Which ithinkGrandy would qualify for quite obviously. But that then applies to his current team not like he could say okay, count it, I'm now going to go to Syracuse. Or can he? I really don't know but think not.

As for moving on and being immediately eligible,no strings attached, he would have to graduate and then enroll in a major grad program not offered at SLU to be able to lace them right up and go. I'd prefer he went that route; there is nothing in a fifth year of Grandy we haven't seen already in the first three years. I'm with Clock.

I'm glad he is planning on coming back. He is a leader, something we don't have this year, and a stud rebounder, something we don't have this year.

JUCO's don't work too well at SLU. MAYBE, one per decade has panned out. I need a little help, add to this JUCO list of recent players (last 20 years) that have made a difference: Dobbs, Jeffers, Love, Fergerson (uh?), Frericks (no)

If one player transfers I'd rather fill it with a late signing. We need to rebuild the right way. It's a risk though. Do you sign another Yarbrough or Jett late or another Lancona or Agbeko?

If 2 people left I'd love to bring back Grandy.

Also depends on who leaves. If say Reynolds left, there'd be zero reason to bring back Grandy. But if Lancona does then bringing him back makes way more sense

Taj - Grandy can get a medical redshirt approval and move on no problem. The major not offered at SLU is also loosely interpreted.

see Sam Maniscalco from Bradley to Illinois for the exact same scenario as Grandy.

Leaders with no offensive skill are useless. GG cannot make a basket beyond 5 feet, and if teams were to focus on him, he'd have zero ppg. Leading the team from the bench and being "good in the locker room" is different than leading the team to victory. We need wins.

And just b/c this Board has mentioned that GG is such a great rebounder does not mean he is. GG is undersized and filled a role these past 2 years of rebounding and being an energy guy. GG would get his rebounds after not even trying to get open and score. Also, guys like RL and JJ would be double teamed b/c teams did not feel the need to guard GG. GG left all scoring completely upon RL, JJ, JB and MM and found a knack for getting loose balls and rebounds but played less and contributed less his JR year compared to his SO year. Hopes and expectations that GG would make an impact this year (if healthy) or next year (if he comes back) is fantasy.

Hate to say this, particularly to this group, but Grandy's tweet only means that the surgery went well and that he has high expectations to come back and play for us. OF COURSE he does assume that he will be good as new after the surgery. This remains to be seen, the rehab he undergoes will probably have a greater impact upon his level of recovery than the surgery itself. As I said before, all surgery does is to attempt to maintain the stability of the shoulder joint when subject to normal levels of function. Even this level of function requires that he (Grandy) does not hurry up the rehab process and starts practicing on his own before the joint is fully healed. Any number of things can happen that will ultimately help or hinder his recovery. It plainly is too early to say what will happen by 2015-2016.

If you are reading this Grandy, know that we all wish the best for you and that if you wish to play competitively, you should NOT hurry the rehab process. Have patience, good things may come.

Everyone is allowed to have an opinion. Yours and mine don't agree. I'll take his 4.9 rebounds per 12.9 minutes on my team, you won't. Life remains good.
