  1. i think RM contacting SLU is a likely scenario. word on the street is that he was one of two coaches who had contacted creighton through channels about the second altman was announced as going to fayetville. it seems that majerus had in his mind the profile of the school that he was going to finish his career at - and SLU and CU sure have a ton of similarities. he mostly just traded that great omaha beef for some quality pasta on the hill.
  2. rick didn't really tease USC - he flunked the insurance physical. my guess is that this go around that has already been worked out somehow. this is a huge get for SLU - and probably the most excitement since the miracle in memphis. enjoy it bills fans. rick is going to be a lot of fun - he's going to own st louis pretty soon - probably moreso than spoon.
  3. gotcha... i really hope brad pulls it together this year. he's a good guy - and he works exceptionally hard. i think he needs to be open minded in terms of style and he has to CLOSE on some more recruits. the nucleus with what could be the best backcourt in Bills history when it's all said and done is there. the complementary pieces need to be added - and all this getting rid of brad talk can go away. dick bennett (brad's mentor) retired from WSU last year. i really hope that dick is able to spare some time from tony's first season to come down and do some "consulting" for brad. i think that kind of continuted mentoring and second pair of eyes on the program could pay off.
  4. hardly altman was rebuilding the program the right way - and took over for the worst coach in creighton history. the program had been decimated by rick johnson - and absolutely no one was calling for DA to be fired after his first few seasons. his teams were showing improvement every single year as well.
  5. if he visits hawaii - its bad news for slu fans hawaii generally doesn't allow visits unless someone is already a verbal (or at least that had been the policy in the past) eliminates the situation just mentioned - kids just stringing hawaii along for a free trip - which for the rainbows - is really really expensive.
  6. man - i feel for you a-10 fans and the poor quality of officiating jays got absolutely jobbed last night by an a-10 crew... here's some video http://www.wowt.com/sports/headlines/2496481.html hurts that hoops is now over - opening day can't get here soon enough
  7. hmm - bradley wouldn't finish in top half of big east? i think seton hall did - and seton hall was absolutely abused by wichita state - who was it that beat the heck out of them in the MVC tourney? oh yeah, bradley... UNI finished 6th in the MVC this season - sixth they also beat iowa and lsu - not too mention strong showing against georgetown yesterday you're just wrong on this.
  8. don't give up on him, yet - he's still a young coach and it seems that there are bright things in store. that being said - were i in charge - the following would happen. brad - you are going to hire a coach to handle the offense...the kids play great defense - but we need some new ideas and creativity offensively - al maguire had someone handle his offense for him - so don't be offended. mike davis' best season at IU was when he had dan panaggio do his game plans and offensive coaching - so this isn't something that isn't heard of these days either...dan then went on to nba and is now at marquette. there are definitely some guys out there... i would also encourage attending some coaching clinics - and arrange a "coaching mentor" - spoon would be perfect. his availability, association with slu, and most importantly - in game coaching acumen (read ability to adjust) make some sense. the extension CL gave was premature. i think brad can get over the hump - but he needs to know that "discernable progress" is not enough. at some point winning (the right way - which he does) is ultimately the only thing that matters. remember - duke wanted to fire K after four years. brad is at a critical point in his career at slu - he either gets over the hump - or he ends up a head coach at some div III school.
  9. this is where lisch's not playing much AAU ball might actually be hurting... if he had played with some guys who are going to be outstanding recruits - or played against some of these guys where they noticed him to the point of getting them thinking about getting kevin to be the guy feeding them the ball for the next 3 years of their collegiate career - well, who knows? i agree though - brad needs to figure this out quickly - the guard positions seem to be fine... the post is where the need truly lies.
  10. yup - wooden award is something you can "play your way into"
  11. i am willing to bet that nate funk will be a nominee by midseason... if he picks up where he left off last season - he was arguably the the best player in the conference last year - and that includes two time POY darren brooks. both funk and jacobsen are outstanding players though...
  12. personally - i don't want memphis, slu, duke or ucla added to the mvc ok - some of those are on the list for effect - but you get the point. adding any more teams to the league eliminates round robin play and the league will have to be split into divisions...i really don't care for that - i like the fact that cu has a home and home with every team in the conference. clearly these monster conferences don't work too well - see conf usa, the formerly expanded WAC, etc. will be interesting to see what is going to happen to the A-10 (14) or big east (16 teams)...i don't believe that conferences of those sizes will be able to sustain themselves (particularly the big east) one of the big things that slu basketball has been lacking as of late are sustained rivalries. mizzou will always be there (if they sack up and resechedule the bills) - but it hurts to lose marquette, depaul and cincy...while xavier is a natural - any rivalry with them will be secondary to UC. edit: rereading this - it is kind of an incomplete thought - SLU's lack of sustained rivalries is due to the "conference hopping" it has engaged in the last 15 years...however - no question that it was the correct thing to do when looking back at the competition from the old MCC to the potential of the a-10 - however - as i stated - i don't believe this is the last move for the bills - i don't expect the new big east to last more than 5 years. ultimately - it's my belief that slu and creighton will be in the same conference - it just won't happen until the big east breaks up. until then - i'd like the mvc to stand pat.
  13. in all fairness... this would be like someone taking something from cheesycow - or the vashon guy that got banned (or wherever the hell he was from)....and posting it as being represntative of bills fans on VT. i refuse to revisit this topic other than what i just posted.
  14. ah yes - chris "cheese" rodgers... was a top 50-100 recruit coming out of ESL lincoln - but scored about 10 pts his whole career at CU after numerous knee injuries...i believe he is now an alderman or some sort of elected official in omaha. i don't know that cuonzo martin was on that squad - only a frosh if he was - i saw him play against my former high school over xmas break his senior year...he single handedly outscored the pioneers that night - was an impressive performance - and on another note - glad to see that he has beaten cancer and is starting a nice coaching career. those were some impressive teams out of lincoln at that time - a lot of national recognition... always big for us in the QC to beat teams out of chicago and the east st louis area - my fondest was kicking the crap out of altoff in 4a playoffs in 86 - but that was more for the classless fans/students than anything else (football). my brother lost to the 91 version of BA - hickey thompson was the star - and he was a damn good running back - never won the three heismans that he predicted though...think he flunked out of both michigan state and illinois state. i think at the time he was the all time rusher for the state of illinois.
  15. not much excuse for lack of effort as far as recruiting goes... brad would be brutalized here if he wasn't making the effort to go see the best local kids play.
