  1. The good thing about Nitu going to FSU is we can get him to transfer to SLU next year after he's developed there for a season. Mr. Brightside
  2. Also the start of Passover big day for everyone
  3. Regarding Mari pause this video, posted by Torch, to his commitment thread, at the 41 second mark. It might explain his knowledge of Majerus.
  4. Yeah I agree with this but does anyone on the team currently have + ball handling skills? We mentioned beating the press as a reason for a PG. It's best to beat a press with passing. But sometimes especially late game situations you need someone with traditional PG skills. Maybe Coach thinks we have enough. I'm unsure. I'd think we need 1 or 2 PGs. Then more front court players.
  5. Just throwing out names because I think we need a PG, Alston Mason SMS is in the portal. 17.5ppg, 35% from 3, 3.5 ast/g From Overland Park, KS https://missouristatebears.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/alston-mason/7446
  6. Portal ranking is tough and so new. Personally I think 247sports does the best portal coverage. https://247sports.com/season/2024-basketball/transferportal/ Regardless, of the ranking nice to see SLU getting top rated talent. It'll translate to some publicity and top 25 mentions. Also nice to see logical roster construction not last minute take what you can get, then surprise when no one is cleared to play.
  7. Good point. I was thinking this is a NCAA team with 4 ISU starters and Jimmerson. Now I don't know yet. Going to depend on the quality of the transfers. Even then will they have chemistry.
  8. The last sentence is an assumption and not a fact. If it comes true it is more applicable to football. We don't really know. SLU hasn't exactly been tearing it up since 1948 before NIL was a thing. So what are we really losing? But we need to find a way to be positioned for what's to come. College Basketball isn't going away. There will be CBB competition in some form. For the many posters that don't like NIL and all the money, maybe getting "kicked out of the club" gives them what they want. Sports without the influence of big money. I personally want SLU to compete at the highest level it can. So I'm accepting of the changes and willing to look for ways to exploit the opportunity. If the ACC goes away there's some likely shifts that bring opportunities.
  9. Guess you haven't had ESPN for the last 30 years. Big schools, conferences were already driving everything, NIL or not.
  10. This is kinda how they do things in the People's Republic of China the government tells citizens where they have to go and how much money they can make. I googled "fear of change" this is what it returned: "AI overviews are experimental. Learn more The fear of change is called metathesiophobia, and it's an extreme version of the basic survival instinct to stick to what you know. It can cause severe anxiety or panic attacks, and can become a debilitating fear that prevents people from making changes in their lives. Metathesiophobia can also cause: Self-doubt Lack of self-esteem Social anxiety Depression Inability to adapt to new situations Isolation Inability to make decisions Failure to consider options Defining identity by external things Dependence on possessions Here are some ways to overcome the fear of change: Reframe the experience: Be more present with the experience as it is, and experience it to its fullest instead of worrying about it changing Practice repetition: Train your brain to follow a path of positive feedback rather than a negative feedback loop Write down the pros and cons: Encourage clients to write down the pros and cons of making change."
  11. To address @cgeldmacher 's point regarding restrictions on the # of years. College sports are set up as an extracurricular activity for college students. As far as I know that's full time students in pursuit of a degree. That is the same as most other college activities like Mock Trial, Chess Club, what have you. So the limitation is being a full time student in pursuit of a degree in good standing. Now one could stay in school full time more than 4 years that's true. So I'm not sure if a limitation will be able to be upheld. If they're a student in good standing in pursuit of a degree. So we could possibly see that challenged and changed as well. Quickest way to get that challenged and changed is to try and impose other arbitrary restrictions. More rules more challenges. More change.
  12. Seems like the market can take care of itself. If it's not sustainable and no one pays there's less money. Pretty simple. You can choose to donate, not donate, watch, don't watch. Everyone has a choice now even the players. For every regulation or new law there's unintended consequences and loop holes to be exploited. If better players stay and don't jump to G League or Europe don't we see better basketball? Seems like the system is rewarding more experienced players and keeping a team together as long as possible. That's why Calipari struggled with a bunch of one and dones when he previously dominated.
