Recruit

Recruit (1/7)

  1. Bobby Knight makes it 11, but he probably just promises them an arse kickin'.
  2. I'd rather take my butcher's word on it.
  3. Add Roger Powell to that list. His first two years they tried to make a wing out of him because of his lack of heighth. He moved inside his junior and senior seasons and blossomed.
  4. Gonzaga- Mark Few Creighton- Dana Altman Pepperdine- Vance Walberg New Mexico St.- Reggie Theus Montana, UTEP-??? At the non BCS schools the coach along with other items have to standout. Academics can be a roadblock, but top 150 recruits want to play for these four coaches. I am not anti-Brad...I like Coach Sodorberg but I just don't think he has or will ever have a national reputation. We have to successfully recruit the area and mix that with middle of the road recruits from the midwest.
  5. I've seen Fay play a couple of times this season, twice in person and once on tv. He was the Sun Times Class A player of the year. I did not mean that he did not belong on the list, I meant that he did not belong the first team. This team is comprised of players from both Class A and AA. Fay and O'Rear are both Class A first team all-staters and O'Rear was probably the runner-up for the player of the year. Both are post players that play for small rural schools( and very good teams) and seldom face anyone with any size. That's why I say they are comparable.
  6. This is not a knock at the Salukis, but C. Fay does not belong on the first team. Fay was a 1st team Class A all stater but when you mix the two classes he does not belong. He is very comparable to Lucas O'rear and O'rear is not even listed. Fay has a chance to be a nice player at SIUC but he doesn't compare with the Roses and McCameys.
  7. While in High School I went to see SLU and Depaul in '82. Depaul was ranked #1 in the nation. The majority of the fans were there to see Depaul and rooted for them. I have always disliked when visitors' fans outnumber the home fans. I rooted for the Billikens even though they got trounced. I started to follow them after that and it wasn't long until Gray,Douglas, and eventually Bonner showed up and the team was pretty good. I always thought Charles Newberry was a good player...no one ever mentions him. I followed them throughout the years since and then my son and I attended Sodorberg's father/son camp. The way Josh Fisher and Anthony Dejaj treated my 5-year old son not only left a tremendous long lasting impression on a youngster, it made me a Bills' fan for life.
  8. Scheyer was a consensus top 10-25 player in '06 before he picked Duke over Illinois. He had one of the most storied careers in a tradition laden basketball state. However, I think Lisch and Scheyer are very close in ability. I think Lisch makes up for any shortcomings in ability with his exceptional grit and could easily play for Duke. I also believe Liddell could play for Duke. Now of course their roles would be very different, and their minutes would be significantly reduced, and this would be the case even if they started for the Dukies. In my opinion, Scheyer defers to McRoberts and Paulus a little too much, but that is his role on the team. Against Maryland this week he hit the big 3 to tie the game at 64 only to see Paulus and McRoberts try to take over from there and fail. I think Paulus is an OK point guard and McRoberts is going get a NBA GM and coach fired for taking him too high in the draft. But I do know this about Sceyer, Liddell, and Lisch. They would rather have these three in Champaign than the juggernaut trio of McBride, Fraizer, and Meacham.
  9. I hope this hasn't already been linked, but here is a video of Brett Thompson vs. Lucas O'Rear.
  10. My favorite from the state of Illinois High School- Williamsville Bullets Jr. High- Williamsville BeeBees
  11. >Now is not the time to panic. This is exactly right! We didn't panic when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor, did we? Heck no! Thats the great thing about conference tournaments...or the worse if you're the team that misses out on a bid if a team like slu wins. There's been worse teams than the '07 Billikens that won their conference tourney.
  12. > >Do you realize that SLU once drew 3,200 people for a game >against then #1 ranked DePaul? > > I was at that game. It was my first Billiken game. Terry Cummings signed an autograph for my friend and I during the game. The score was out of hand and he was on the bench. Your're right, there was no one there and we ended up sitting right behind Depaul's bench. Ray Meyer was so close I could have touched him. I thought it was a big deal as I was in still in high school. It was only a couple of years later that I was back at a Billikens game to see Gray and Douglas....it didn't take long to turn around. This team and the program doesn't need turned around, it just needs a boost, something to kick it in the rear to get where I think we all want it to be.
  13. I know everyone is disappointed by the Billikens' season. I know I am. Obviously the only way to make the tournnament is to win the A10 tourney. At one time I thought this was very doable, but not so much now. In hindsight it would have very hard for this team to be an at-large team. What do you think they would have had to do to be one? I figure they would of have to go 4-2 against NC, Ole Miss, Miss. St., SIU, Texas AM, and at Houston and to go along with 3 or less losses in the A10 and a good showing in the A10 tourney. Since that didn't happen, the only thing left is the conference tourney. Yes, I'm disappointed, but I going to root my back side off for that to happen. Its all we have left of this season. I think once the season is over...and its not...then I will give the direction of the program and what needs to be done more thought and energy. Anything said before that is just speculation and cannot help save this season.
  14. >Brad can be kind of tough (not in a productive way) at >practice or behind closed doors. > >> > I think there's a certain coach at Texas Tech who wins and has been known to be kind of tough.
  15. Jake Kelly played his fresh and soph years at Marshall Il high school. My cousin was his head coach. I have seen him play on occasion and he reminded me of Richard Keene(Collinsville and IL) The last time I saw Jake play was his soph year and he had all the tools but needed strength. He has since transferred to Caramel High in Indy. This is the high school Dukie Josh McRoberts played for. Jake plays AAU ball on the same team as Illini recruit Eric Gordon. I think its Indiana Elite.
