Kent State by 1 over the Bills

Sure hope you are right, but it would take a bunch more than 1 to get me on the Bills side of the action. Kent is picked to win their side of the MAC, with Miami of Oh. second. I watched Miami give UCLA everything they wanted a few days ago. If Kent is better than Miami, I don't like our chances much. Hope I'm wrong.

Watching BC beat St. Johns as I type and we're in big trouble on Saturday, also.

Again, really hope I'm wrong, but we looked horrible against UMSL. Talk all you want about match ups, but we're talking UMSL, a lower tier D-II program. I sure think we'll be a lot better with KL, but what about the match up problems we posed UMSL? We certainly didn't take advantage of them.

By the way, am I the only one that worries when PE comes in? Plays hard, but his shot, for whatever reason, hasn't fallen, and he sure turns it over a bunch. I wish Majerus had enough confidence to play Cotto, Thompson and Conley in the second half Friday. I just don't see how they get better sitting on the bench against UMSL.

Eckerle may have caught Polk disease. Just like Dwayne, he was a dangerous long range shooter in high school and unlike Dwayne he was over 75% from the line in high school. Despite getting lots of floor time last year, none of that materialized. And now he's showing that same hesitancy to shoot that plagued Polk after his freshman season. I hope he can turn it around but the trend isn't looking good.

i think eckerle is still suffering effects from the back problem. obviously has put on weight and seems stiff and a step slower. they should let him get healthy.

I look at both the KS and BC games as "going to school games" for the Billikids. Am sure RM is telling them these are good D1 teams that may be bubble teams when it comes to making the dance. Which means these teams will give you an idea as to how long the road is going to be. I'll chock up the UMSL game to nerves, no KL, and a fired up UMSL. If we get blown out by KSU and BC, it'll be chocked up to inexperience.

Kent State is a veteran team (according to the paper) and a good one at that. I can't see last year's score chaning by 42 points just because of roster changes, game location and other items. A lot is going to have to go right for us to pull this one off. The UMSL and Harris-Stowe games were really nothing in comparison to tonight's game.

Having Lisch back makes one huge difference for tonight's game versus that of UMSL. The second item is that I recall someone saying somewhere that UMSL took the air out of the ball and gouged the shot clock way down before doing anything. With the veteran-laden team that is Kent State, I don't think we'll see that happen.

Rick is telling us "expect the worst." So let's see. The Billikids once again do the state motto ---- show me. I'm expecting the worst but hoping for the best.

If I was a betting man, and sometimes am, I'd take KS and give the 2. Actually, I really should. It would just about ensure guarantee a Billikid's upset.

Or Vegas " predicted" the exact same thing the Wiz did..

The point is that while everyone was lamenting KS & BC I saw both of these games as being very close. (My BC pick will be up after this post) Everyone looked at the Ky vs UMSL drubbing with awe. But that game along with our game against UMSL just didn't mean very much. To me the UMSL game was an exhibition game too. The thing that Vegas won't tell you are the games that are never played. I punched Ky in against us and we lose by 1. (Ky being similar to KS & BC) I also punched in St. John's (the recent loser to BC) and we win by 2.

So what's the point of all this. The point is that last night was the first REAL game for us and it showed that we are a pretty good team. Not great but pretty good. We will be competitive in most games. We will pull off a few surprises and get bombed in a few. Will we be "Dancin" Probably not. But we have a chance if we stay healthy. The X factor is how much we "gel" during the year. After watching last night's game you could see a lot of potential. Not to mention the mistakes will drop off as the year progresses.

Want an upcoming team to worry about. Try Xavier.

This should be a fun year.
