Wild Bills's Achievements

Recruit

Recruit (1/7)

  1. If they experts had their say they'd be voting for a national champion after the conference tourneys were over like college football in the 1980s. SLU got exactly what we earned down the stretch. Seeding numbers are irrelevant. We've got the path of a 7-9 seed, which requires us to get through a legitimate 1-2 seed to make the Sweet Sixteen. Personally I don't like our potential match-up against Louisville, but no one does. Remember though these are 18-22yo college athletes. There is a lot of game played above the ears and listening to Rick Pitino's interview the other day "overconfident" might be an understatement. If our guys come out the next few nights and play with a chip on their shoulder realizing that they've got nothing to lose, we might see glimpses of the Utah squads with RM or Indiana with JC.
  2. As frustrating as the last few weeks have been, the only thing that matters is a tournament run. The only reason Butler is in the Big East right now is their performance in the post season. No one remembers how they played in the Horizon league. The only reason Wichita State was ranked in the preseason polls, and the reason they can afford to post taunting billboards all over our city, was their run last March. The only reason people have even heard of VCU, and the reason they're infallible in the eyes of the national media, was their Final Four run. Big name recruits, casual fans, and big time media deals don't care about conference wins in a mid-major league. Conference championship are great accomplishments for the players and are remembered by die-hard fans but their impact in future seasons doesn't extend beyond the building in which their banners hang. Legends are made in March. Deep runs in the tourney attract these three precious assets (i.e. big recruits, casual fans to fill the seats, and big media deals) that make programs self-sustaining. They're the reason Chaifetz Arena and RM were assembled in Midtown.
  3. It was only a matter of time until teams started picking apart our shortcomings: rebounding, the zone, and 5+ minute mental droughts without calling a timeout to regain composure. Ultimately tonight it was the second chance points, particularly offensive boards resulting in deep threes and our continued impotence against a zone. At least ESPN.com has kept true to form and not managed to write a NCAAM headline article about the #10 team in the country for the 3rd straight game... we can only hope the next one isn't headlined with pic of RL getting tea-bagged by someone from VCU on an ally-oop (like on that VCU hi-light real the A10 is trying to call a advertisement for the conference http://whowantsnext.com/).
  4. To be honest the Bills have been prairie dogging with this piece for almost a month now. It's about time they got it out of their system before its one-and-done. At least they're not on the road on the verge of a court storming. Or playing Oregon.
