Recruit

Recruit (1/7)

  1. This past Friday Justin Love was in town to marry his longtime sweetheart and former baby blue, Katy. The ceremony was performed at the college church, with reception at Windows on Washington. It was a wonderful evening, perfectly planned and executed. It was great to see his big smile again.
  2. Thanks for the post, and glad to have you aboard!
  3. Welcome the new poster to the board, he's a good fan and as you can tell, enthusiastic about our team.
  4. "Charlotte assistant coach Bobby Kummer was an intense player at the school in the mid-90's, and he's stayed that way. When a fan heckled Charlotte guard De'Angelo Alexander from the front row as Alexander warmed up 30 minutes before the game, Kummer wanted security to get him out of the building. He settled for having the fan moved to his ticketed seat on the other side of the court. The Charlotte student section didn't get the same chance withe the Saint Louis starting lineup. The Billiken starters were not introduced before the game." Kevin Cary There was a nice group of Bills fans at the game, we were right behind our bench and were vocal. What a great night to be with the team as they worked hard for the win.
  5. In the post game show, Earl said of Luke's strong performance: "He's like corn bread, not the main course, but sure makes the rest of the meal taste better." I like that.
  6. outing is Monday May 2nd at Norwood. For those of you who golf, it is a fun day with other Bills fans. Last year's event was a sell out, so jump in early.
  7. The ladies battled all the way, just ran out of steam at the end. They are playing with a short bench, especially with Hayley Leake recently injured with an acl. What wasn't posted earlier was the victory Friday night over the Cincinnati Bearcats. (Travis Diener was there to watch sis) By the way, did you notice the woman ref never blew her whistle once on the team in red? Not once. Good to meet you, Skip.
  8. I'm asking. The tip off club, as unca states down the thread, has been around long before the billiken club was dreamed up. We are the ones meeting at Humphrey's monthly, and talk hoops with coaches of both men's and women's teams. The coaches are very faithful to our group, hence the concept of funding their lockers. 70K is the goal. 14 pledges of 5K (over 5 years) will do it. I can't imagine in a large group of boosters why that's not reachable. Can't do 5K? Do what is within your comfort zone. email me and I'll explain how to get it done. Thanks. And, oh yes, the points will move you closer when we do move in. [email protected]
  9. Well, yes, Cheryl mentioned the arena. Nothing specific about when it can get started. She said she receives at least one check in the mail every day. Readers: have you sent yours? If you are interested in getting on board with the tip-off club arena project to fund coaches lockers, please let me know. We have a good start, but can use your help. Let's be boosters. [email protected]
  10. Yes, I talked to a fan at the ladies game Sunday who also jumped onboard. Call me at home. 636-498-5600 P.S. to other fans who are wondering how to help the team and get involved with the tip off club project to sponsor the coaches area in our new arena, call me. Let's get it done. Is e-mail easier for you? [email protected]
  11. Mrs. Dribbler and I are planning to attend.
  12. Those of us who've been around awhile will remember Al Kracht, who served as an officer on the tip off club. He and his wife, Doris, made lots of trips with the team, and became beloved friends of many of us. Al passed away something like 3 years ago (??) Sadly, Doris passed away yesterday morning, at the age of 83. The visitation will be Sunday from 4-8PM, at Ziegenhein Funeral Home, 7027 Gravois. Burial at Jefferson Barracks on Monday morning.
  13. From the USA Today: "The University of South Florida will ask the NCAA to grant an exemption to its uniform policy and allow a Muslim player to wear Islamic clothing on the basketball court. Andrea Armstrong, a Muslim convert, said she left the team and lost her athletic scholarship last week after her coach told her she could not wear religiously mandated clothing during practice or games. She wanted to wear long pants, a top with long sleeves and a head scarf. School officials said Armstrong voluntarily left the team and was not pressured to do so. In a meeting Friday involving Armstrong, the university and the Council on American-Islamic Relations, officials agreed the team would accommodate her Islamic attire and reinstate her scholarship. The university also agreed to work with the NCAA on this. The NCAA's basketball rulebook devotes five pages to uniforms but does not address religious issues. All players are required to wear the same uniform."
  14. Greg took the bullet for Haskins at UTEP, and thus ended up scrambling for a job. Spoon hired him and we were better off as a result. Greg was always willing to speak at the tip off club meetings, and was always very candid. I remember that at a pre-season meeting he was asked how the offense would run now that Larry would be playing. He said that they would give the ball to Larry and watch him score. Greg was also responsible for bringing H Waldman to us. He is a nice man and a good coach.
