Listener of the Streets (6/7)

  1. Did he get two NILs, one for basketball, and one for football?
  2. We have in the team 3 returning players that we have all seen play. The question here is not whether or not they can play, but how much they will improve under Schertz. Then we have the two from ISU both of who we recognize as key players with the Schertz system. Then we have Pikaar and McCottry, freshmen and totally unknown in terms of their play. I think that Schertz is likely to get the majority of the remaining players from the same unknown group of freshmen players. I doubt that he is going to pick a large number of well known players for this season, maybe one or two more tops. This will show, hopefully to our total satisfaction, just how good Schertz is at both selecting players, developing them in a short time and playing them. This is promises to be a very interesting season.
  3. Schertz chooses recruits and brings them for a visit fast. 6 this week!
  4. Personally, I would keep nothing from the Ford time, unless Schertz wants to keep it. As far as trust goes, I would trust only one thing: games won, particularly those won against highly ranked opponents.
  5. One single game is not likely to make a major difference to get to the dance. What we need is winning lots of games, and then the committee may dump us out of the NCAA tournament because they like some other school better. After all, that is exactly what they did to ISU last season.
  6. Yes, it is a 2 year old policy but it has not been changed internally, not yet anyways, despite the MO law allowing the school's NIL participation. I assume this MO law does not forbid the schools from NOT participating in NILs. SLU may or may not actively enforce the policy they have in place, but until they change their own policy to specifically allow whatever it is that is done with NILs, whoever does it is breaking SLU's current policy. SLU can use their current NIL policy to defend against any consequences or legal action resulting from NILs.
  7. I watched a lot of West Coast college basketball prior to the end of the NCAA and NIT men's basketball tournaments. It is a world of its own, they play late at night (from the point of view of the Central time zone) and they play primarily among themselves. Santa Clara is (or was during the 23-24 season) not a bad team. It will be nice to play them, and check out how good are we likely to be this coming season.
  8. I believe that a large number of MBMs believes (or wishes which for some is equal to believing) that NILs are an integral part of the recruitment process and that the Coach and the AD have some degree of control over this part of the recruitment. This is plainly not correct. I enclose a link to SLU's policy for recruitment as it applies to athletes. It is here: https://slubillikens.com/documents/2022/4/11/SLU_NIL_Policy.pdf If you want to see how wrong a lot of these ideas are, please check the official SLU policy on recruiting. My understanding after reading the policy posted above is that SLU as an entity wants nothing to do with NILs. So now you know what SLU's policy about NILs officially is.
  9. I know that last season we were very bad and that we will improve under Schertz next season. We ended last season at 185 in Team Rankings and Santa Clara ended at 108. Judging by the end rankings for last year, might be a good opportunity to show how much we have improved under Schertz.
  10. OK, Avila is in. The waiting is over, a key component to Schertz team is secured. Now we can allow ourselves to start thinking big.
  11. This is not a lateral move, he is not after money, he is following the coach that has made all the difference to him as a basketball player. This makes it a very good move.
  12. This is, I think, the kind of recruiting that Schertz excels in doing. Very good adition to the team.
  13. Did both of the ISU transfers confirmed they are coming to SLU or not yet?
