Cory Remekun in action tonight

Recommended Posts

Just got home from watching the Billiken-to-be. I was misinformed that the game was actually tonight and forgot my digital camera this game, but next game I go to, I will definately take some so you all can have some visuals.

A few observations about Cory

1) He is 6'6, no way he is 6'8 or 6'9.

2) He plays center on his team which will NOT be his position at SLU. Cory will be either the most athletic player on SLU's roster or right behind J. Smith. He plays on a HS team that starts 4 very athletic, quick guards. Mesquite HS runs a full court press the entire game and Cory is the point man on the 1-2-2 press. He has a huge wingspan and gets up and down the floor with ease, sometimes beating the smaller guards on his own team.

3) He very rarely brings the ball up, due to the personnel on his team. He does not have a mid range game but is nifty around the basket due to his athletic build. He is a TREMENDOUS passer in the paint and high post he made about 3 or 4 passes tonight to set up easy baskets for his teammates.

4) He has a nice little jump hook which he uses regularly. His foul shooting needs some work, to my count he was 4-8. Cory ended up with (unofficially to my count) with 20 points, 8 boards, 4 assts, and 2 blocks. The team he faced didnt have a player on their team over 6'4 so he was easily the tallest man on the floor. He also threw down 3 monster dunks for those who like that kinda thing.

5) He is definately a 3 at this point, Majerus in all likely hood will redshirt him and send him to the weight room. Cory has a broad set of shoulders and can easily add 15 pounds to his frame and could be a 3/4 combo.

He is very slender probably 6'6 175-180. I think with his frame and broad shoulders he can get up to 210. His points tonight were all in the paint because Dallas Jesuit had nobody over 6'4 that could match him height wise or athletically so he didn't have to shoot jumpshots. He may very well have a nice shot, I didn't see the warmups. he has good form on the foul shot, but they were not falling.

My guess is that Majerus is hoping either Smith or Cory will add some pounds and be able to man the 3/4 position. When the current class are Juniors, this team could be scary good...

Mitchell

Cotto/John

Smith/Remekun

Conklin/Remekun/Smith

Thompson

How can you forget Cassity? He may end up being the best of all of these guys.

My mistake, being ten hours away from BillikenWorld, I sometimes forget, especially the new blood. I am sure Cassity will give Majerus flexibility given what I have heard about his overall game. Point is still valid that when these guys are juniors we should really reap the benefits of these two recruiting classes.

I also forgot about the Aussie, Slaleich, sounds like he might be our sniper on the three point arc. Its fun to think about these athletes being injected into the program, hopefully they will be wise enough to listen to what Majerus preaches during practice.

Thanks for the update Tex. Keep us posted if you see any more of Corey's games. Maybe some of the Ohio Bills can catch Smith play and of course we have blinky to give us updates about the Aussie.

For those who live near Dallas or travel to Dallas for work, Cory Remekun will be playing the top team in Texas, and in some publications the top team nationally Duncanville on December 2nd. This will be quite the test as Duncanville as a 6'8 post signed with Texas and a 6'2 guard headed to Okla State next year along with a stable of athletic wings.

Mesquite HS has their PG signed with George Mason, Vertrail Vaughns a 6'1 lightning fast PG and a 6'4 wing player who is tough as nails who is getting looks by some d-1 programs.

Should be a good test for Mr Remekun.
