VCU's Larrier to .....

... Uconn. Uconn over Maryland due to previous contact with Kevin Ollie. Kids sign with coaches, not schools. Larrier has to sit a year.

Seeing as only one thing matters right now: FBJT has Coach K, Coach Cal, Roy Williams or Jim Crews. In that regard, the "hometown hero" allure and pull had BEST be high.

Will Wade has now brought in the A10's #1 ranked recruiting class in a matter of weeks and has brought in legit bigs. That's phenomenal. Samir Doughty is the real deal and VCU won't miss a beat.

So losing an NBA level talent in Graham and another great player in Weber, and VCU won't miss a beat? Hard To believe to say the least

Of course they'll miss Graham, but they did fine winning the A10 tourney without Weber, and they were young. With the returning guys, the guys coming in, and Wade's history of developing big men and running VCU's offense when they were more efficient a few years ago, they'll be fine. One thing I'm grateful to Smart about is he didn't leave the cupboard bare, but Wade's not going to play multiple guys out of position like Smart did. Tillman is moving to SF, Mo Alie-Cox will move to his natural 4 spot since 6' 9" 240 lbs and experienced Ahmed Mohamed and 6' 9" 255 lbs Jon Nwankwo have arrived, 6' 10" Gilmore has tons of upside and can shoot lights out, etc. VCU has gone from a small to big team overnight and I'm excited to see the big lineups. 6' 8" Tillman and 6' 9" Gerron Scissum at SF, are you kidding me? And Briante Weber stated in an interview that Wade is the real mastermind behind the Havoc style of play, not Smart. I wish we could've seen Graham play his natural SG spot more instead of the 4. He would've been a ton more efficient, and I think it'll show in the NBA.

The Bills must be all up in your head for you to check the board this frequently. Yes Tatum is coming, yes it's going to be awesome

I check most of the A10 boards every once in a while. I think you guys will return to form soon. I just saw the VCU thread here so I commented, and I like Taj's posts.

Who are your ballhandlers?

They'll be JeQuan Lewis, grad transfer Korey Billbury, Jonathan Williams, Melvin Johnson, Doug Brooks, Samir Doughty, and Tillman also has decent handles. Doughty might be starting by mid season. I think he's very underrated and we're lucky we got him, YouTube him. Looks like a Top 50 player to me.

I think both Lews and Williams are more than adequate point guards and would say VCU is covered there. While I don't put Johnson and Doughty or Billbury in that class (haven't see either Doughty or Billbury play yet), both Johnson and Brooks are adequate enough to provide pressure relief if needed and so too is Jordan Burgess. My question to this team is who will score but IF Wade is indeed the true architect of the offense and HAVOC defense as well, I doubt they miss a beat. Team chemistry might take a while however and there will be growing pains.

Here's a quote from VCU Coach Will Wade giving you guys props from an interview today, and I agree with him.

I think the league is really, really good. I've obviously followed VCU in my two years away. I'm not as familiar with all the personnel across the league right now, but I know the main players. Dayton and Rhode Island are certainly going to be very very good. And Davidson and GW should also be strong. Just from watching film and looking at stats, I think Saint Louis can be a team that makes a jump. Coach Crews is a tremendous coach and they played all those freshmen last year. They are a team that people aren't talking about, but they can make a good leap and be a tough out this year. They have a championship pedigree and I think they'll be much improved.

From all of the video and radio interviews Wade has done so far, he really seems to be the type to keep it real. He even said in one interview when talking about scheduling games that scheduling is the only thing coaches lie about more than recruiting. When talking about VCU players he is explicit about their positives and negatives, so I think the above quote is really what he feels, or he wouldn't have mentioned SLU at all.

Here's the full interview the above quote is in. It's mostly VCU discussion, but it still has some good stuff about the type of coach Wade is and his philosophies. Honestly, he had a lot more to do with the success of the Final Four run than people know.

Larrier has caused quite a stir on the VCU board. He was quoted as saying "It’s a lot more competition here. I think the guys may be a little better talent wise than some of the dudes at VCU." when talking about UConn. Very classy. Looks like addition by subtraction for VCU.

Doesn't mean more talented. Shabazz has been gone for two years. They had a very crappy season until the tourney run. The point of the post is it was classless of Larrier to diss his teammates he called his "brothers" before, especially on a team he barely got any PT on for his lack of defense and bad shooting. That's like Yarbrough transferring to Duquesne and saying the same thing about SLU.

They had a very bad season until they won the national championship. Heh.

If Yarbrough transferred to a better school - like Larrier did with UCONN - I wouldn't be shocked to hear him to say it was a better school.
