Majerus SLU Crew

The whole thing confuses me, but hey, we get to see Conklin, Evans, Jett, McCall, and Kwamain play together again. That team will be hard to beat.

Every one of those guys was borderline A-10 POY material (with Jett actually doing it). And Conklin and Kwamain have had great success internationally. This team will be very, very hateful.

I think the guys at the end of the bench were some of the original team. Mitchell, Remekun, and Conklin were not on the team as of a few months ago (so they needed to fill spots). It would be a little unfair to kick them off now.

This could really be interesting. Would be nice if they streamed the games. Midwest has a couple of tough teams in there. The Bad Boys team has a pretty strong group of players and of course they have to go through the ND team that won it all last year. But don't see how they wouldn't get to the semi's/finals for the region.....Love that there are a couple of teams made up of all guys whose top level was h.s. varsity. Also be interesting if the all girls team can hold their own.

In our region SLAM, Reach1Teach1, Eberlein Drive, Bad Boys, Armored Athlete, & Ants Alumni look good.

We have more depth than everyone except Ants Alumni. We don't have a big time player though, but there are only a couple NBA level ballers in our region. Ants Alumni would definitely have to be the favorite. We are in the top 4 of our region though. If Dwayne and Jordair are 100% then we can hold our own.

Some teams in the other regions are scary. 3-4 guys who are at NBA level. Quite formidable.

I can't believe they have a girls team playing. They won't score a single point even against the crappiest team.

NBA level ballers like CJ Wilcox?

Wilcox is a borderline NBA player and when Conklin did that he was just a freshman. He was a very very talented college player.

Besides the point, for instance the Ants Alumni team is comprised of the core of a D league team that won the championship in 13-14 and are still playing pro ball. That is extremely high level competition and a seasoned team. I honestly don't know if anyone on our roster is good enough to start for a D league team. Maybe Jett or Evans sans injuries but that is it.

http://www.prlog.org/12468934-the-basketball-tournament-announces-live-streaming-for-2015-1-million-winner-take-all-event.html

"Links to the live streams for all games from rounds 1-4 will be accessible from TheTournament.com Bracket page, which will launch on July 1, when the full schedule of matchups and game times for all 96 games will be announced. Nick Gryniewicz, a central Florida radio host, currently heard on ESPN Orlando, and Mike Ridaught, the voice of the University of North Florida Ospreys, will provide the calls for all the games, with special guests dropping in to provide added insight for a majority of the games. Highlights from all games will also be available through the TBT Facebook (Facebook.com/

thetournament) and YouTube channels (YouTube.com/tbtbasketball)."
"In the Midwest, among the 24 teams, no fewer than six former Wisconsin Badgers teamed up with former Sacramento Kings swingman Royce White to form the "Bad Boys," with projected lottery pick and National POY Frank Kaminsky providing non-playing support. Former Indiana Hoosiers Christian Watford, Jordan Hulls, and Will Sheehey have teamed up on “Armored Athlete” alongside former Cleveland Cavalier big man, Alex Kirk. Under the late Rick Majerus, the Saint Louis Billikens reached unprecedented heights and six players recruited by Majerus have come together in TBT to honor their coach and celebrate their collegiate accomplishments. At the heart of that success was Dwayne Evans, Jordair Jett, and Mike McCall Jr., a group that contributed to 92 wins and three NCAA Tournaments. All three will return to the floor for the “Majerus SLU Crew,”' while former Knicks and Denver Nuggets forward Renaldo Balkman will lead the “Eberlein Drive” team.

The defending champion Notre Dame Fighting Alumni, led by former All Big East players Tim Abromaitis, Luke Harangody, Ben Hansbrough, and Torin Francis, among others, have a bye and will participate automatically in the July 23-25 Super 17 as well."

Kwamain.

Probably not. All Star in Poland does not make you a D league starter. If he was that good he'd be in the D league at least for a year or so in hopes of a callup.

I don't know about that. He can make a lot more money overseas. The odds of making the NBA from the NBDL are slim. The NBDL guys make about 20k a year. He could make 60-100+ in Europe and still keep any long shot NBA hope alive through summer league.

Good for Kwamain. He keeps moving up in competition and salary. Lisch is a backup in Spain. Mitchell could probably be a starter for a high level squad in that league.

The best route for a fringe NBA player is to play in the D-League. It is a formula that has been worked out and you see many players go this route. Our own Marque Perry was a trailblazer on this. Perry was right on the cusp of being on NBA rosters his first 2 seasons out of college but never quite made it. He was a final cut on 2 teams coming out of camps. After 2 season Perry quit the dream and went on to Europe and continues to play over there.

Europe pays from 60-100k per season, plus no taxes and living expenses in many cases. D league only pays 20-30k. So of course you'd go to Europe. Except 30-50 players get called up to the NBA every season. Reed was called up for 3 10 day contracts. 10 day NBA contracts are worth up to 60k. So for a borderline NBA player it makes a ton of sense to stay in the D league at least for a period of time. You get a couple 10 day contracts and you make as much money as you can in Europe and give yourself a chance to catch on and get a real NBA contract, over 500k. It takes several seasons to earn that in Europe. At about 3 years out of college if you aren't in the league you are never getting in so you take off for Europe. Few players get signed out of summer league anymore, too much competition. Once you are in Europe it is very hard to get out of your contract if an NBA team wants you. The NBDL is where you want to be if you want to play in the NBA.

If Mitchell had a shot at starting in the D league, he would have stayed here at least for a couple years. He didn't so he went to Europe. Of course for a player like McCall it makes almost no sense to play in the D league. He should have went straight to Europe.

There are always taxes. Assuming we are referring to U.S. citizens, the U.S. taxes all world wide income.

The taxes are normally paid by the team when the player is from the US. So when you hear a US player signed a $100,000 contract in Europe it means he is clearing $100,000. In addition, the teams normally supply a home, a car, and money for living expenses.

I think he made the smart move going straight to Europe. We are talking two different things here - NBDL starter or fringe NBA player. There are only 30-40 players each year that get a call up and the same guys get the call repeatedly. There are 90 NBDL starting positions. When Kwamain came out of SLU, the average number of callups was probably closer to 10-20. Plus factoring in the players who have NBA experience and/or draft pedigree are more likely to get the call up.

If a guy knows his level and that he isn't an NBA caliber player, or in Kwamain's case doesn't have the size, its in his best interest to maximize his earnings in higher level leagues overseas than it is to stick around the NBDL on the scarce hope of a call up. Of course you have to be okay with living in a foreign country as well, which may have been a factor in McCall's decision.

I think it is important to remember that Reed's first choice was to play overseas. He is only playing in the D League because he couldn't handle the adjustment to a foreign country after he signed to play in Spain. His first choice was to play in Israel this season, but he couldn't handle living in foreign country again.

I expect he will give Europe a try again this coming season. He was able to stick it out in the Dominican for a couple months before leaving for the the summer league a week ago.

And why do you suppose he was able to stick it out in the DR while not being able to adjust to life in Spain or Israel? The answer can be found here...
