Listener of the Streets (6/7)

  1. I think this must be said, those that want money get money. Unfortunately for those that want money, they basically do not know how to handle it, they just know how to spend it. Eventually the IRS will check their finances thoroughly (in an audit or series of audits one after the other). The outcome may very well be pretty bad for them. Enter Schertz, this is a man that has gone through a lot in his life and has succeeded. He can succeed with brand new recruits from lower level schools. We need no 7 figure NIL Kobes or Loves, he can find the kids he needs, he can train them and he can guide them. My time in the Army confirms that there are officers capable to guide people into the jaws of death, there are others that will be shot by their own troops. Money is not the solution.
  2. @sulfan 13 and @HooosierPal. I could see the pictures both times with no problems.
  3. You can be assured that once the legal action has started (as it has regarding the unionization of student athletes at Dartmouth). the litigation will continue and spread to other schools and jurisdictions and the lawyers will spend large amounts of time arguing something or the other. Courts are likely to reach all kinds of decisions that will not form a uniform system everywhere. There will be attempts to incorporate other systems like the soccer transfer market you mentioned. I have no idea what will come out of this but paying "student athletes" NILs will 7 figures in them does not appear likely to me.
  4. This is the beauty of Schertz strategy, find them early on or in places a lot of colleges do not go to recruit, be able to identify the good ones and take them in, and then get them together into a winning team. He can get a winning team out of places that none of the people thinking how are we going to get a Love or a Kobe? is given the simple answer let them go elsewhere. If the Kobes and Loves of this world spend time sucking wind not playing is because they wanted too much money that they did not get. Schertz is approaching the recruiting process from the correct angle. In other words, screw them and their greed.
  5. Think back upon prior experiences with various coaches. Has it ever been the way we all believed?
  6. How can you work for someone who offers you no movement forward? Confronted with a boss in that situation, lots of people just start planning to move elsewhere.
  7. Stats for Al Mattin here: https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/abdurrahim-almattin-1.html
  8. Goodwin will most likely get a firm contract somewhere. He is playing like Rodman did and that is a very good thing.
  9. This is very interesting, generally Texas and Harvard do not agree in anything.
  10. You may not believe it but a number of teams played two big men during the recent NIT and NCAA MBB games. I do not think they played them both under the basket but they had them playing at the same time.
  11. I think that, at least to some degree, the high margin of victory depended upon the fact that the Cavaliers considered the opposition totally inferior to them and so they were not ready to fight them. Besides the roundheads really believed that their God was a mighty fortress as they sang as they fought.
  12. He also created the New Style Army that went to battle chanting hymns. This was something that the Union Armies also did with the Battle Hymn of the Republic during the Civil War.
  13. I am very happy that Jimerson is coming back for next season. I am sure that we finally have a coach that can coach and develop players. I feel confident that Jimerson will do just fine under Schertz's guidance.
  14. Schertz, at least judging by his brief biography posted by Pakapablo in this board, is not a man that rates money above everything else. He is a man that has been through a lot and probably judges people not by the NIL money they get but by their effectiveness and ability. At least that is my opinion. If Avila is just after money there is no doubt in my mind that he can get a larger NIL elsewhere. If what Avila wants is further development of his ability as a basketball player and believes that Schertz is the coach that will provide it, then he will be at SLU even if he is offered a larger NIL elsewhere. If you (plural) judge things and people by NIL money alone you are not going to get what you need to radically change SLU MBB. This is my opinion, not fact.
  15. Ford still has plans for coaching and for the NILs.
