Freshman (2/7)

  1. I went to a small Nazarene school so I am familiar with Point Loma. It is a beautiful beach front campus. Dorms are literally overlooking the beach.
  2. I didn't make a pre season prediction about how many games we would win last year, so I would be being disingenuous is I told you a number right now. I took it game by game and looking at the other teams roster, who many upperclassmen they had, how their stats had developed, and their overall context. Overall, most of those games I thought we would loose. Keep in mind that When the class of 2014 (Jett, Loe, and company) were freshmen, they went 12-19…. not much different that our past season, and they had a few more upperclassmen.
  3. I was watching the highlight videos at the bottom on the homepage of this site and I began to feel about more hopeful. I don't think we will be a dominant team this year by any means, but it was a reminder that this was alway going to be a process. Last season we lost a lot of games by close margins and we let teams get back in the game after being up by a lot. We made freshman mistakes-mistakes that I think having a year under their belt players won't make again (or at least not make as many of these mistakes). I don't know how much more we expected from the team given that we had lost al 5 of our starters and Crawford, Lancona, and Agbeko had seen very limited minutes, and Grandy was injured the entire season. It was certainly disappointing to see games slip away, and to hope for the best and still see the worst happen, but I think out record reflects the reality of what the expectation should have been all along. We are fans, and always expect more and hope for the best, but some times we have to understand that results do in fact reflect reality. What is encouraging about this season is that all of the returning players played the majority of the minutes last year. Its not like last year that we had to start from scratch. If we can win 3-5 more games more than we did last year I think we are still on the right track. We will on lose Yacoubou after this season so the trend of having he majority of your minutes returning will continue. I think the expectations for the following few years should be as follows: 2015-2016- Win 15 games 2016-2017 Win 20 games, decent conference tournament run, ncaa bubble team 2017-2018- Win 25 games, conference tournament contender, ncaa berth and at least 2 tournament wins
  4. This is a forum, not a cheerleading squad. I don't understand those that say "just support the team". Just shut this board down and buy some cheer uniforms if thats how it should be.
  5. Zach Gunn just picked up an offer from SLU
  6. Bishop is listed as weighing 160lb which is unbelievably small IMO especially being 6'1. Does he look like he can hold his own physically out there?
  7. Zeke is part of the HS class of 2016
  8. yes. I'm assuming its only during half time?
  9. running down the clock was the stupidest play I've seen…The other team doesn't have a bench at all! wear them down with passing!
  10. I'm also glad is recruiting locally…. but damn
  11. First and foremost, I welcome Zeke Moore and wish him the best as a Billiken. I hope he turns out to be a stud. BUT: Lets stop trying to sell the idea that player ratings don't matter. They do. Do they tell the whole story? NO. Is there the occasionally under rated/off the radar player that ends up having pro potential? YES…but they are the exception. Duke and kentucky sign highly rated players and what are the results? CHAMPIONSHIPS. Teams that recruit highly rated players tend to do well. Teams that recruit lowly rated players tend to do poorly. In this era of the one-and-done having 4 year players can bring you some success, but it will only take you so far. We had some mid-rating, 4 year players with Jordair and the crew and it brought SLU success but ultimately no success in the NCAA tournament. Ratings are given by bigger sources (ESPN,Rivals, MaxPreps, etc.) and those sources follow players who are being given attention. Attention is being given to those who are doing something worthy of attention. There are reasons why some players are rated higher than others. There are reasons why some players don't get any attentions (they haven't don't anything worthy of attention). The fact that we are getting guy after guy that has been been getting little attention is worrying. We can hope for the best with each new recruit, and I will be cheering for each player along with the rest of you, but let's realize that the fact that we are now getting unrated recruits (2 stars is the default that Verbal Commits gives, and no other source has even given him a rating…ESPN doesn't even have him in their data base) is a bad sign.
  12. What are some of the family concerns? I have been out of the loop.
  13. Maybe I put too much attention on player rankings and who schools have offered a player, but I do believe those 2 things tell us something. I'm not too high on Zeke Moore. He has his strengths, as does any other player with enough talent to make it to D1 ball, but he isn't anything extraordinary. I would take him as a last resort, and definitely not as an earlier signing. I admittedly have not seen him play, but he is -A lowly ranked player -A player on a bad team -A player with offers only from not very good teams Am I wrong for not being excited about him when we want Billiken basketball to GROW and not just get what they can get? I will support any player who puts on a Bills jersey, and will hope for the best, there is a tendency on this forum to make superstars out of every potential recruit.
