Brian Hank Haenchen
Hey everyone, I'm open to suggestions for improving/diversifying my coverage on InsideSTL during the men's basketball season. Personally, I want to do some more player features, figure out a way to integrate more video/multimedia pieces. With these open practices at the end of the month, if there would be interest, I'll do a Periscope broadcast during the session. As for the interviews, I'm planning to record and upload them to YouTube immediately after they conclude (will definitely continue recording/uploading interviews during the regular season, too). I figure we'll get the opportunity to talk with the incoming freshmen, so if there are any older guys (or coaches) you want to hear from, let me know... One quick shameless plug, I'll be hosting a show Tuesday-Friday from 8-10p on CBS Sports 920 starting next week. Definitely going to line up a few SLU hoops guests, so shoot me any requests you have and I'll see what I can do. Beyond that, I would love to use this thread to connect with fans more and just shoot the breeze on SLU hoops (really enjoy just talking SLU hoops, especially during the season). So, fire away! I think many of us are still suffering a hangover from the Tatum decision, but I'm sure this will be a great thread in the near future. cgeldmacher
Glad that you are filling a void which exists for Billiken coverage. I follow you on Twitter and, right now, you are the best follow among the local media for Billiken related news. To answer your question, interviews would be nice, but streaming open practices is an outstanding idea. Also, any coverage of recruiting is going to peak the interests of this board. I would love to see you talk to Billiken recruiting targets for purposes of sending the information back to us fans and to show the recruit that their recruitment is meaningful enough for local St. Louis media to cover. Also, this board seems to crave inside details about scheduling as well.

With regards to the recruiting, it's super difficult to try and get plugged into the recruiting circuit, while also covering two other teams for InsideSTL (I've tried before, may try again soon). That being said, I definitely understand where you're coming from on coverage playing a role in their decision. In terms of scheduling, I'm working on finding out more specifics than what's already out there, but from what I understand, they're in the process of finalizing the non-con slate. Personally, I'm expecting it to be loaded with mid-to-low-level mid-majors (i.e. the North Carolina A&T types, etc.), just based off who they've already lined up. I don't necessarily have a problem with that approach, especially since last year's schedule wasn't as bad as it looked at the beginning of the year (South Dakota St. was an NIT team, Texas A&M-CC bought into CIT). But this year, they actually have to win those "cupcake" games (i.e. Texas A&M-CC). Brian, thanks for joining the community. Just want to thank you for your coverage of the Billikens over the past year with InsideSTL as it has been better than our local paper. In defense of Stu, his bosses seem to put him in a bad spot. Same as they did with Tom, with the added bonus of slashing his budget and not allowing him to cover road games. I only do more because I can do more since I'm basically my own boss, if that makes sense.

Many of us never hear or see anything besides a few youtube clips about kids we are looking at. Would be nice to know some insight. Maybe like a phone call with the kids high school coach or something. Show the recruit that SLU fans are interested in him. Also thanks for the coverage Brian, like they said, you are the best follow for billiken news on twitter. Your work is appreciated.
moytoy12
Meant to add that Periscoping the open practices would be awesome, especially for us out of towners.
Cowboy
-welcome to the board -I was not aware you covered SLU on insidestl, I will give that a much more frequent look -any SLU-related information would be appreciated but especially recruiting -I don't know if Steve would allow but try posting on here a link to a new story and see if that flies -in case you haven't been following this board, you will get some slams from some folks who seem to do nothing but slam, in those cases just consider the source
Pistol
Any chance you'll fire up the podcast again? SLU basketball seems to be my one area of interest not covered by a podcast. Hell, I'd do one myself if I were local. Also, any chance you'll stop covering Mizzou?

Story archives and what not are here. Yeah, I'm aware of the trolls and what not. I don't take it personally (unless it's something *super* bigoted or completely over-the-line). Sometimes, they can even be pretty funny. Any chance you'll fire up the podcast again? SLU basketball seems to be my one area of interest not covered by a podcast. Hell, I'd do one myself if I were local. Also, any chance you'll stop covering Mizzou? Maybe. I was actually thinking about doing something with Rammer last season for 920, but it never came to fruition. We'll see where this radio show goes. It'll be podcasted online, so you can just catch it in the morning through InsideSTL.com, sort of like we did with The Full-Court Press. Also, no. Haha. I'm the Mizzou football, SLU hoops and Blues hockey guy for InsideSTL.

Billfan78
Welcome. One suggestion I have is to post post-game press conferences, preferably of both the Billikens and their opponent, to youtube or some other accessible source. Jase Bandelow infrequently posts the Billikens press conferences.

Jase Bandelow infrequently posts the Billikens press conferences. Postgame video is more difficult on my end because I try to live tweet quotes, which seems to be pretty popular. I can start posting audio on nights that Jase doesn't record pressers.
Brian Hank Haenchen
We'll have Conklin on the radio show Tuesday night. Working on Dwayne Evans for tomorrow morning on the Pressbox. If you have questions for either, fire away.
SluSignGuy
Question for Evans: Did he get hurt during The Tournament game? I was at least surprised he was on the bench so much in the second half. Conklin I could attribute to him struggling a bit (no offense to Brian, but he looked like Freshman conklin with all the bunnies he missed). Evans though seemed fine, and there was even a point where it seemed Mitchell wanted him in.

He also is close to signing with a team in Europe so that could have played a role.

Jordair was supposedly still in the process of rehabbing, though you'd never know it by looking at his stats. Typical No. 5, right? Conklin's locked in for 8:30 tonight. For TMA fans, there will be fry talk, seeing as he's from a foreign land, technically. Really want to know if waffle fries are big for Australians, too (kidding). The best is when they filter into the text inbox during Frank's show, and he unwittingly reads them on air. You can always pinpoint the exact point when he realizes he's been had.
