There is a Jalen Johnson from High Point, NC (would have played with Harry Giles at Wesleyan Christian Academy) committed to Tennessee. He is a 6'6 SF with big time athleticism who was a fairly highly sought after recruit (3/4 star recruit).

Thank you and Brianstl. I did not think SLU would sign a player as good as the one I saw, this quickly.

Even though the the the other Jalen is a better athlete, I think kid we have signed has a chance to be a contributor on a good team.

Jalen is quoted from the above article:

“There were two or three schools that showed me their program was like a family,” Johnson said. “But it was more than that at Saint Louis. It felt like it was a family, but I also felt a real bond — the kind that means they’ll be there for me even when I’m older.”

Guys. This has to be a mistake. Journalism is sure not what it used to be... No... this is a down right lie!! No way could a young player ever be made to feel like SLU is his "family" or for a coach/program to establish a "bond" with a basketball after only a few weeks!! Does the world not understand and/or read this Board? Conventional wisdom here concludes that a coach can ONLY be successful if both he (and his predecessor) strongly recruit a kids over multiple years without mistakes. And being the first increases our chances as well. No way can Ford ever establish a bond with Goodwin over the next half a year/year. Oh wait... this kid says he established such a bond in a matter of a few weeks!!

LOL  Appreciate the article and thanks for kicking off my weekend on good note!!

I still fail to see what everyone is raving about regarding these two signees

I am not sure it is fair to say people are raving on them. Both appear to have some positives that those who left did not have. You get better incrementally at the beginning. Outside of AY what transfers were Crews able to get us - by the way, Ash may actually have come under RM's time. The way I see recruiting now for us is that who we bring in must be better than what we have or had. If Ford can do this now then his task will be even easier this Fall and in the future.

I don't love either of these players either but at least Ford is upgrading the roster. They seem to be solid guys. I think everyone knew Ford would be able to recruit. What kind of results he gets with those players 2-3 years down the line is the question. He's off to a solid start, but my opinion hasn't really changed. We'll see what happens in a few years. I would love to come on here and admit that I was wrong about Ford, but bringing in these 2 players isn't going to sway my opinion for the time-being. Hope that's not too negative for some on this board.

We haven't had a player like Foreman on the roster in a while. Big bruiser who can rebound and shoot.

Reggie is almost exactly the same size as Foreman, shoots at a higher percentage and the rest of their numbers are basically the same.

From the highlights I saw of Foreman, I'd be a bit surprised if any of our bigs could make some of the moves Foreman did. Reggie's the only one with a chance, but still might be a stretch for him.

From skimming through the Rutgers message boards about Foreman, they all seem to think the A10 is a really good fit for him. They think he's a good player who was a little in over his head in the Big 10. They thought he was a decent shooter but that he needed to knock down shots with greater regularity. A few people questioned his lateral quickness. His free throw numbers weren't good. But they thought he was a really hard working player who can rebound the ball well.

I don't think he'll be a star here but to me he's an upgraded version of Reggie and that's a good start in upgrading our roster.
