  1. It looks like Cheryl's got a decent new contract at GSU, of course the tradeoff is that she doesn't get to interact with the good father. http://blogs.ajc.com/georgia-state-sports/2012/10/25/details-of-levicks-new-contract-at-georgia-state/ Details of Levick’s new contract at Georgia State 1:45 pm October 25, 2012, by Doug Roberson Georgia State athletic director Cheryl Levick will receive a base salary of $280,000 this year and it will increase in $10,000 increments until reaching $320,000 in 2017, the fifth and final year of the contract extension completed Tuesday. A copy of the contract was obtained by the AJC through an Open Records Request. Her new base salary would make her one of the highest paid athletic directors in the Sun Belt, according a database of athletic director salaries compiled by USA Today in 2011. By comparison, Levick’s original contract had a base salary of $220,000 in 2009. It didn’t include any annual increases. The new contract includes numerous bonuses ranging from on-the-field achievements to off-the-court longevity. It also has a buy-out, should Levick choose to leave, equal to the equivalent of the base salary in the year in which the contract is terminated. For example, if Levick were to leave in year three she would owe to the university and/or Athletic Association $300,000. If Levick were to be fired without cause, she would be owed the base salary as well as any earned bonuses not yet paid, in the year in which the contract is terminated. There are the standard termination-for-cause clauses, including material breach of duties, major NCAA violations, violations that result in probation or a finding a lack of institutional control, conviction of a felony or crime that damages the reputation of Georgia State, etc. Here is a list of the allowances and bonuses in the contract (with a running note about the maximum bonus total that could be reached if Georgia State’s athletics department were to have the best year in the history of college sports): Annual allowances $2,500 apparel $500 automobile Unknown club membership allowance Bonuses APR $3,500 all team equal or greater than 925 $5,000 all team equal or greater than 930 $7,500 all team equal or greater than 935 $10,000 all team equal or greater than 945 Note: Georgia State’s lowest APR was 949 in the most recent data. My math: The maximum bonus that can be reached is $10,000. Cumulative GPA $3,500 all athletes equal to or greater than 3.0 $5,000 all athletes equal to or greater than 3.1 $7,500 all athletes equal to or greater than 3.25 Note: Georgia State’s student-athletes had a cumulative GPA of 3.03, the university announced earlier this month. My math: The maximum bonus that can be reached is $7,500, bringing the one-year maximum bonus to $17,500. Football cumulative GPA $2,500 if the football athletes’ GPA is equal to or greater than 2.7 $5,000 if the football athletes’ GPA is equal to or greater than 3.0 My math: The maximum bonus that can be reached is $5,000, bringing the one-year maximum bonus to $22,500. Bubas Cup $2,500 if Georgia State finishes in the top four in the conference $5,000 if Georgia State finishes first. My math: The maximum bonus that can be reached is $5,000, bringing the one-year maximum bonus to $27,500. Director’s Cup $2,500 if Georgia State finishes ranked in the top 6 of its peer group $5,000 is Georgia State finishes ranked in the top 3 of its peer group My math: The maximum bonus that can be reached is $5,000, bringing the one-year maximum bonus to $32,500. Athletic achievement bonuses in 2012-13 $1,500 for each team that finishes the 2012-13 regular season ranked second in the regular-season standings or conference championship. $2,500 for each team that finishes the 2012-13 regular season first in the regular-season standings or conference championship. Note: Georgia State fields 17 teams. $5,000 if the football team finishes in the top half of the conference standings. Athletic Achievement bonuses starting July 1, 2013-2017 Sun Belt Conference championships (excluding men’s and women’s basketball) $2,500 if two GSU teams win conference championships $5,000 is three teams win conference championships $7,500 is four or more teams win conference championships My math: The maximum bonus that can be reached is $7,500, bringing the one-year maximum bonus total to $40,000. Sun Belt basketball tournaments $2,500 either team reaches the tournament semifinals $5,000 either team reaches the tournament finals $7,500 either team wins the tournament My math: The maximum bonus that can be reached is $7,500, bringing the one-year maximum bonus total to $47,500. NCAA basketball tournament $2,500 for each team that is selected to play in the NCAA tournament Note: not paid if the team qualified by winning the Sun Belt tournament. $2,500 for each win in the NCAA tournament. $5,000 for each team that advances to the Final Four $10,000 for each team that wins a national championship My math: For this section, the maximum bonus that can be reached is $52,500, assuming the men’s team advances through the play-in game and goes on to win the national title; and the women advance from the Round of 64 and wins the national title. That brings the one-year maximum bonus total to $100,000. Sun Belt football $5,000 if the team finishes in the top-half of the standings $7,500 if the team wins the conference championship or finishes first In case conference goes to a playoff: $2,500 if team reaches conference divisional playoffs $5,000 if football wins conference divisional title My math: The maximum bonus is $7,500 bringing the one-year maximum bonus total to $107,500. Other Sun Belt sports $2,500 for each team that qualifies for its NCAA championship $2,500 for each round each team advances $5,000 for each team that advances to the Final Four in its sports $10,000 for each team that wins an NCAA championship My math: I’m excluding this from the maximum bonus total for now because I’m trying to get clarification on the wording. The one-year maximum bonus, at minimum, would be $140,000 (14 NCAA championships). Performance bonus $10,000 if the athletics department achieves significant “firsts.” The university president will decide the amount, if any. My math: This brings the one-year maximum bonus total to $117,500. Compliance bonus $20,000 in each year there are no major NCAA violations. My math: This brings the one-year maximum bonus total to $137,500. Retention bonus $50,000 each year the athletic director remains in that position. My math: This brings the one-year maximum bonus total to $187,500, excluding the bonuses that could earned in other Sun Belt sports. – Doug Roberson, AJC. Please follow me on twitter @ajcgsu
