Recruit

Recruit (1/7)

  1. Tom Izzo thought of Johnson as a very high pick during his exposure to him last summer. I see Johson as having slipped back from that level during his last season with Snyder. I assume that your statement about Bryant is in agreement with my assessment that his exposure to Snyder did not benefit him either.
  2. AJ If you believe that Perry was hampered in the SLU system, you, as a Missouri fan, must be outraged that Snyder appears to have taken two first round picks (Johnson and Paulding) out of the NBA draft with inept coaching. I would think that any recruit would have to look very seriously at the manner in which they were hurt this year under Snyder, particularly after extending their eligibility for him.
  3. Don't speak for all of us. In the current setting, I much prefer the A-10 to the Big East. I would not want to be recruiting, for academic and philosophical reasons, against the likes of Cinn, Louisville in the Big East. I have seen the A-10 as an excellent fit for a long time with schools of similar academic and athletic backgrounds. I would expect that it can be expanded with similar institutions such as Georgetown, Villanova and, perhaps DePaul/Marquette when the crunch comes.
  4. My point is, that while the A-10 may seem like a good move down the line for Marquette and DePaul, there may not be room for them if they are at the bottom of the Big East. Remember, there will be a number of prominent basketball schools looking for a new home when, as seems likely, the football schools cut them loose. I a quite happy to be getting away from Cinn and Louisville for academic and recruiting reasons. I would not like to be going with them at this time to the Big East.
  5. I really think that Marquette, and DePaul, have bitten off more than they can chew in the Big East. I do not see either team achieving significant success in that league, and they may have compromised their chances to join a more appropriate conference-A 10-in the future. The more I see, the more I am impressed with SLUs move to the A-10.
  6. At this time of the year, the Sagarin rankings, with all teams connected, is uncanny in predicting the outcome, and frequently the point spread. With a 4.5 point home court advantage, Missouri becomes a one point favorite in the game. It is a must win for Missouri.
  7. In fact, in addition to the TIF, the SLU arena will receive taxpayer support by the issuance of double tax free bonds to cover the $25 million that remains after the initial private contributions. The bonds will be a win-win situation for the University and the bondholders. That makes the involuntary contribution that we are making to the Columbia arena more palatable.
  8. It has been a long time since I posted, but I have continued to read the board regularly. I could not resist the temptation to say something about all that has occurred. It is great to see that both the arena and the research center are "done deals". I was concerned that the research center would be sacrificed for the arena. At a recent meeting at which Fr Biondi spoke, and which I attended, it was clear that he will proceed with both, breaking ground by March. It appears that the money for the arena is all but in the bank. The research center at the medical school is an extremely important component of the University's future. It will likely raise the school to a level one research university and go a long way toward Biondi's long term goals. By the same token, the A-10 is a no brainer. Because of the exposure in the northeast, it will greatly enhance student recruiting and university prestige. That could not be accomplished in the MVC or CUSA. I am very happy with the present outcome of the conference shake up. I think that the result is better than it would have been had we gotten into the Big East. The outcome allows the basketball program to continue to rise with schools of similar philosophy while postioning ourselves for the next step in conference alignment. As I see it, there is a real risk that the Big East football powers will eventually expel the basketball schools, taking with them (the football schools) the Big East name and NCAA bid. If that occurs the most reasonable resting place for the basketball schools will be in the A-10 and there will not be room for all of them. The lower echelon teams in both conference will be at great risk, and it will be much more likely that we remain in the upper circle of the A-10 at this time than that we could achieve such a goal in the Big East. When the shakeup occurs, certain schools (Xavier, Dayton, SLU) with successful records and big time arenas will be in the best position. I would be very concerned at this time is I were a DePaul or Georgetown fan, for instance. Congratulations and thanks to Woolard, Biondi and Soderberg.
