  1. With the way these teams shoot the 3, your wife may need it to get through the game. I know I probably will.
  2. FYI: http://butlersports.com/news/2017/11/29/alcohol-now-available-for-purchase-at-butler-mens-basketball-home-games.aspx
  3. FS1 is in 83 million homes vs. ESPN's 89 million. Subscriber fees are $1.15 per month on FS1 vs. ESPN's $6 per month. It's also not just an FS1 contract with the Big East (believe it was for 12 years starting in 2013 for $500 Million). Games are televised on FS2, regional Fox affiliates (such as Fox Sports Midwest) as well as Fox's network channel. In terms of whether the channel is actually making money, they lost about $50M in 2015, which is actually a major improvement on their $265M loss they took in the first year of operations and are projected to make over $100M this year. While I doubt they'll ever reach the level of viewership and brand recognition that ESPN has, they also don't have the massive amount of rights fees that they have to pay each year for national broadcasts of NBA, NFL and MLB games along with their collegiate contracts, and Fox is starting to pick up other leagues for college basketball and football (Big Ten, Big 12, Pac 12). What will really be interesting is to see how television networks react to all the people cutting cable and moving more to an online platform where they may very well wind up competing with Google and Amazon for broadcast rights.
  4. I will admit that I'm not sure how many games SLU currently has on TV each year, but the main point is that the school will have to show whichever network the broadcast is on (whether that's CBSSN, NBCSN, ESPN, FS1, etc.) that people will watch. Considering how down Mizzou is, there's actually a great opportunity currently for SLU to capture more of the local market if Ford can get things moving in the right direction and Missouri continues to struggle. The challenge that I see (and it wouldn't be the first time I was wrong, just my opinion) is that St. Louis is already a Fox Sports town with the Blues being on Fox Sports Midwest. So with the Blues and Billikens essentially playing at similar times for their entire season, how much more would the network stand to gain by having 2 local sports teams on, especially if their games happened to run at the same time?
  5. The bit of good news is that Ford has had success in the A10 before at UMass even though he didn't make the tournament in the 3 years he was there. Both there and at Eastern Kentucky, his teams consistently improved from his 1st to last years at each program, though he only made the tournament once in those 7 seasons. I'm not sure if he'll be the long-term solution for SLU, but I certainly think he'll get things moving in the right direction.
  6. Been a long time guys. Brad Stevens actually was the coach of Butler when they were invited. 2 days after the league was officially formed is when it was announced that he was going to the Boston Celtics. SLU would be a likely candidate for an invitation if the Big East ever does decide to expand because of the school's profile, but it's going to boil down to whether or not the Billikens would bring in additional dollars (mostly through TV, but NCAA tourney money helps) to the league to where it's beneficial to all the schools to bring them in. St. Louis is a great TV sports market, but SLU would have to show the Big East people, who would then have to go to the TV networks to prove that the league's TV deal (which currently brings in $3M or so to each school) should be bumped up to accommodate for the additional programming. I feel like that's going to be really tough to do, so I would agree that it's going to take an extended period of winning and stability within the program to show the powers that be that this is a worthy program.
  7. Obviously it's not ideal, but the new Big East is going to have to pay out Butler's and X's 4 million dollar price tag on exiting the league, maybe the additional 4 million for Saint Louis and then likely Dayton to join was the straw that broke the camel's back. Also, from what I've been reading over at the C7 message board and on Xavier's board, the A-10 meeting that the portion of the meeting that Butler and Xavier left early for was to discuss increasing the exit fees for future members. Obviously we know which way you guys would vote if that was the case, and Dayton too (and maybe even Richmond), but I still think the majority of the other programs would probably vote to put that in place, which could make it very difficult for you guys to get out of the league depending on how high they decide to go. Overall, I still think there is going to be a lot of very good reasons to bring you guys into the fold and I still feel like the consensus is that it will get done for 2014-2015, but you never know with these negotiations. I'm also curious to see with this news coming out what kind of whistle that Butler gets today. Not because I don't think you guys wouldn't have a good chance of winning anyway, but I think it will be interesting at least for Butler fans to follow. Good luck the rest of the season, and hopefully we'll get to continue playing you guys as a conference opponent in the very near future.
  8. Figured I did this after the last time St. Louis put a beatdown on my Dawgs, but congrats on the win last night. Your guys made the critical plays down the stretch and our team didn't. Hopefully in the next couple of years Butler can get the talent that they're lacking to successfully compete against the better teams in the conference. Good luck the rest of the way.
  9. I think it'll be a better game than last time out, but the key to this game (as it was in the last one) is turnovers. Butler hasn't been great at taking care of the ball during conference play and SLU is one of the best teams in the conference at forcing turnovers. I do think SLU wins this one, because frankly out of the teams 1-3 at the top of the conference standings, Butler has the least amount of talent among them, and you could probably make an argument that several teams below Butler in the league have better talent as well. Hoping for a good game this time around. Hopefully you guys can all make it safely to Hinkle and back home, but you're in relative misery when the final buzzer sounds.
  10. You guys will be excited to know that I'll be there.
  11. I can't say I'm really surprised by the act, but I'm really glad that our team continues to represent themselves in a positive way, win or lose. Wish myself and the rest of our fan base were the same way, but hey, there's a few knuckleheads in every group. I hadn't heard of this youngster until now, but I sincerely hope he is able to be cancer-free soon, and has many healthy and happy years ahead of him, even if he does spend them rooting for the Billikens. For those of you attending the Butler game at Hinkle, I have a feeling I'll be seated amongst you. I'm in section 22, row DB (can't remember the seat number), but I know in years past typically a lot of the visitor's fans would be seated there. Good luck until next Friday, hopefully we can give you guys a little better game this time around.
  12. Giving us a grade A butt kicking. Not much else to say. Better, tougher team is going to win tonight.
  13. http://saintlouis.scout.com/2/1262209.html Sure you guys have seen it before, but it's a good listen
  14. Definitely not in years past. I'm not exactly sure how to pinpoint it, but it seems as though the main issue with attendance was the Horizon League itself and the fact that the majority of the schools simply didn't interest the casual fans. Attendance was usually right around the upper 6,000 to lower 7,000 on average for the seasons right around the F4 runs. They might get one or two sellouts a year, and they were usually because of the opponent coming in and their fans buying up a good chunk of tickets. I do think the season they are having so far has something to do with it, but the A-10 has helped provide Butler with a big attendance boost this year (I believe they should average above 8,000 this season) because people know more about the teams that are coming in. Already have 5 sellouts for this year. I'm not sure when the last time Butler could say that was. Stevens also stated yesterday during their media availability that he thought Crews was doing a good job and that he deserved to be the full-time coach for the Billikens.
  15. If you think this will phase Butler in any way in that size facility (6,000 +) you are kidding yourself. They specialize in playing in those type of gyms in front of huge crowds. It's in Brad Stevens' DNA. Also watch out for posts from Irish Dawg and staxawax this week. They are definitely Bullsh!tdogs! Haha, you guys are awesome. Any of you coming back to Hinkle for the return game? The packed environment won't be anything new for Butler, but I don't think it'll have any impact positively or negatively on them. I do think it'll help SLU's guys get more focused on their gameplan and play with a great deal of energy. If they were younger or hadn't experienced success, then I might say otherwise, but this is a group that knows what it's like to win. Enjoy the evening, I'm sure it's going to be a very physical game.
