3star_recruit
I also see that Cal has 14 offers for 2 spots and USC has 28 offers for one spot. Interesting recruiting strategy.
brianstl
They both must be doing something right. Cunzo's 2015 calss ranked 4th in the country and Enfield's ranked 30th according to Rivals.

ACE
The Nai Carlisle offer is over a year old, predating the Jermaine Bishop commitment by many months. That ship has sailed. Carlisle decommited from San Jose State a few months ago, which is why he popped back up in VC's database. Dashawn McDowell is a top 150 scoring guard who decommitted from Tulsa after the dead period started in April. We're about 2 1/2 months into a quiet period so the opportunities for coaching staffs to evaluate him on the AAU circuit have been limited. His offers are basically regional schools who saw him play during the season. SMU, his best offer, has an NCAA investigation looming over their program. Seems like an opportunistic offer by the staff to me. If a top 150 scoring guard is flying under the radar, you have to move quickly. Could be a plan B if Tatum goes to Duke. Could be a running mate for Tatum. Isn't recruiting wonderful? Regardless of how the Tatum decision turns out, we need to start landing the occasional top 150 recruit. With the graduation of Ash, targeting a 2016 2-guard makes sense.
DoctorB
It's possible I'm the only reader on here who finds all this obsession, and even idolatry, both amusing and deeply troubling. But I doubt it. I do admit to following the recruitment process, like everyone else. But obsessing over any recruit, even the so-called "#1" recruit, and the heavy-hitting argument that fans of other programs are doing it (and actually they are certainly much more obsessive and idolatrous about it in Indiana, KY, NC, etc.): -- well, if it floats your boat, go for it. Great! The doctor has graced us with his presence to deliver another lecture. Glad we have him to talk sense to Billiken nation. The idea that people on Billikens.com are spending so much energy talking about the number 1 recruit in the country possibly playing for SLU is just crazy. That's so strange. I mean, I'm sure fans of other programs don't care this much about recruiting. What is wrong with us?

Him on our team is the difference between us being an NIT team or being a title contender. There's a reason everyone has been riled up about him. Difference maker. DoctorB
thanks, that was funny. you really think JT would make us a title contender? Maybe you were watching the bizarro version of March Madness, while the rest of us were watching the actual tournament with teams like Wisconsin, KY, Duke and so on: giving us a more nuanced concept of what it actually takes these days to make a Final 4. Just as a reminder -- about half the lottery picks came from those 3 teams. A10 title, I could see.... being a title contender. As in A-10 title, right? slufanskip
I see they offered the same day we did. Do we know what time they offered compared to us. It'd be silly if we waited and let them get their offer to him first.

Okay so just for clarity- no one has arguments to me saying that we have an NIT team without JT (best player in nation) - the team is a top 50-60 team without him. So if we add a player better than anyone in the country, that doesn't move a top 60 team into a top 15 team? DocB, I'm honestly curious if you've seen JT play. Have you indeed gone and seen the kid play? Best player to come out of STL since I've been watching. Anyone have any insight pre-2004ish? When is the last time any STL player has been THIS good

Breaking into the top 15 at some point during the season is a very different standard than being a title contender. Compiling an impressive record can get you into the top 15. For a mid-major team to reach a Final Four requires at least two All-Conference players.

Top 15 means one of the best 15 teams in the country. Not getting ranked highly because of a soft schedule or a hot streak. Again, this is all for the sake of argument
DoctorB
yes I've seen him on multiple occasions. Yes, he's good and brings it, no doubt. He can score right away, and his defense is actually surprisingly good. you said that SLU is a top 50-60 team without him. Truly? I guess time will tell. with him -- yes, we could register in the top 25, I'd go that far. Assuming a few of our sophomores to be truly pan out as excellent, consistent players. But I really doubt that we are #50-60 without him, and with JT is is very hard for me to see how this team would miraculously become (fr 8 months) a legitimate challenger for a final 4. anyway, the fact is, I'm pretty sure we will get to test your theory that without him, we will be top 50. Again, it is one example where I truly hope I'm wrong.... twice. Maybe JT will come to SLU; and maybe, if he does not, SLU can return to the top 50 without him. One lottery pick plus a bunch of guys who would not start on a good high major team is a top 25 team at best.

SLU NEEDS MORE THAN THE PRESENT ROSTER AND TATUM TO BE ANYTHING BUT A TEAM IN THE FIELD OF 64 THAT LOSES IN THE FIRST WEEKEND OF THE NCAA TOURNAMENT. LARRY HUGHES WAS ON A TEAM THAT WAS MORE TALENTED THAN THIS TEAM WOULD BE AND THAT TEAM WAS QUICKLY BEAT UP BY A KENTUCKY TEAM WITH ACROSS THE BOARD TOP TALENT. NEED HIM TO BRING A HIGHLY RATED BUDDY WITH HIM. I WOULD LOVE TO LIVE TO SEE SLU AT LEAST IN THE SWEET 16.
kshoe
Just for clarity. We are all pessimistic now bc he was going to announce in ACC country right? Playing amateur psychologist here but I think back to a post Brianstl had a few months ago about how he wanted to make his 2015-16 record prediction at that time because as we get closer to the season he'll naturally get more optimistic and predict too many wins. I feel like the opposite is going on with Tatum's recruitment. As we close in on the decision date, people are turning more pessimistic for no reason. It's likely a defense mechanism so that they'll be able to say they weren't expecting him to come to SLU if it goes poorly. If it goes well, they'll celebrate with the rest of SLU. There has been no new information in the past few weeks. None. We don't even know when he is going to announce at this point. As for how good we'll be when he comes here; people need to think back to Hughes' year. We were something like 12-17 the prior year and he made us a round of 32 team. And that was in an era where players stuck around and college basketball wasn't as watered down. This team with Tatum would be 4-6 seed quality and anybody that has ever watched the NCAA tournament should understand that seeds in that range can indeed make the final 4. UConn and Kentucky played in the title game 2 years ago as 8 and 9 seeds for pete's sake. And UConn got there on the back of one exceptional player, unless that has already been forgotten. 3star_recruit
Tatum is That Dude. It's the frontcourt talent and at the point that's in doubt. We've got a 3 star, earthbound swingman who is our best option at the 4 and our best option at the 5 will be a sophomore in 2016. We have a 2 star combo guard who was recruited to be major rotation player at the point and a starting point guard who has trouble defending his position. We may be able to compete for an A10 title with that profile but we'll get exposed long before the Final Four in the tournament.

But the point is one top ranked player will not bring SLU anything but a NCAA invite and maybe a win in the NCAAs. We need a second top 150 recruit to go with him at least. I believe Baniak and Heinrich were both top 150 recruits with Hughes.
