  1. My experience as a season ticket holder is that if I call the Billiken ticket office the tickets are less expensive than if you try to buy them online thru ticketmaster.
  2. I have followed this board for many years and only posted a couple of times. I have limited computer skills. Am a member of the Art Museum. Today's object of art is a billiken created by a K.C. artist in 1908 and has become an object of art for native persons in Alaska and also the mascot of the SLU athletic programs. It was the object of songs. Maybe if someone is a member of the Museum, that person can bring the picture of the billiken and the explanation into this thread . Thanks
  3. See my post under media for GW game. I have two tickets in section 108 a row apart. Wife and I are ill.
  4. I donot know how to start a new topic. I have only posted a couple of times, but read board very frequently I have two tickets for tomorrow nite. One row apart. Section 108 rows M and N seats 15 and 14. I have gone down for the count. Fever, etc and wife is recovering from severe cold and flu. If anyone wants tickets, let me know. I am not sure how to get a PM, but will try. Kshoe knows me. I am father of person he went to h.s. with and played tennis with. I am glad to accomodate whoever wants the tickets. Thanks
  5. broy I was not referring to the guard's play last year at SWIC, but to his play in hs in Alton the years before. Do you recall him from that time and the quality of his play?
  6. broy Since you know east side players, what is your impression of guard from SWIC who has visited several times and appears to be in consideration to be signed? He played at Alton, I believe.
  7. I have gone to Billiken games for 25 or so years and have read this board since its inception. I have only posted one time, but generally I enjoy reading the posts (except when posters call each other names). My youngest child, now 28, was born with Down Syndrome. For many years I spent many hours working on special education issues with administrator, teachers and students although I do not work in the education field. I have spent many hours working with the Down Syndrome Assoc. of Greater St. Louis. Those of us who have worked extensively in the disability field urge others to use people first language. For example, I refer to my daughter as a young woman with Down Syndrome; not a Down Syndrome person. We believe that using people first language emphasizes the personhood of the person with significant challenges rather than the person's disability or limitations. One word that we find degrading to persons with intellectual challenges is to call them "retarded." Using the word "retard" is also offensive even when used to call out a person with "normal" intelligence. If we want we can always one up a person or degrade a person. I only request that if you do that, which I do not suggest anyone do, that you use different language. In a couple of threads recently the word "retard" has been used to denigrate other posters who one finds offensive or does not like or just wants to put down. I thank all of you who decide to respect this wish. I believe that if you met my daughter or other persons with significant intellectual challenges and got to know them that you too will find that they share many similarities with everyone else and deserve all of our respect and admiration for what they can accomplish.
  8. tommie said that km is playing well in practice and that cassity is the sleeper. he said that be is moving much better. he, kevin and barry have the green light, so to speak, to improvise as the opportunity presents itself. coach praised each freshman individually, but warned that they will make freshmen mistakes. he said that he will suggest that wr red shirt, but does not know if wr will want to do that. coach also said that he will depend on bt, bc, and be to man the post and, i believe, the power forward. that does not leave a lot of strength in the middle and suggest 4 guards a lot of the time. tommie said that the coach wants him to crash the boards more. coach also said that at some point this will be a good team. he just does not know when that will happen. coach challenged the audience to ask questions about strategy, which really did not occur. there will be an event on thurs. oct 30 at 7 p.m. where any fan can show up and talk with players and coaches. maybe someone can bring up strategy issues. i can not make it and am not expert enough to believe i can ask an intelligent enough question, but certainly others are. i would like to know how the freshmen are doing relative to coach's offensive schemes and defensive schemes and what adjustments he believe are necessary to help this group of players do well. coach also said that bt has lost weight and fat, but that he has to learn to run properly and will work with a track coach next spring. he said that pe has put on 20 pounds and is eager for the season to start. he took very difficult chemistry classes with labs this summer so that he will not have labs this school year which conflict with practice. he said that pe is no. 7 on the team and hopes by continuing to recruit well that pe will go further down in the order of players. he did not mean that as a knock on pe, but as an expression of his anticipated recruiting. coach also said that dan lisch is tough and plays well but knows that his scholarship is for one year. he hopes to recruit over dan and then to help him get to a good school where he can play. he mentioned w.u. he spoke about the importance of making sure the players get a good education and was proud about the high graduation rate. tommie was impressive in how he handled questions before coach came in, both about the team, his criminal justice major and his work at the city's juvenile justice center this summer. he spoke about how he hope to help young people in trouble and to be a role model to them in the future. re: recruiting. coach spoke highly about the athleticism of the player who has committed. he said that this player needs to increase his bulk and strength but looks for good things from him. he hopes to sight 2-3 players this fall and another one or two this next spring. he is not looking at juco's. they have trouble transferring credits and are generally not coached so well. as a result, he suggested that it was not worth the investment of time and energy to get them to where he wants them before they have to leave. he would rather work with high school players. coach said that a big player, i believe, 6 ft. 8 in. or more and around 225 visited this weekend. he is down to 2 schools, but coach was frank with him and would want him to redshirt. he is not sure how that will play out. if i am correct, he also talked about a croatian australian who he believes will be a good1-2 player. i believe that he said that this player will visit this weekend. i do not believe that he was more specific about any other recruit. they are looking for 4 players. at 1-2, a shooter, a wing ( which they have ) and a big player. he talked about how hard it is to get a good big and how they generally develop more slowly. that's all i can remember from the top of my head. have a good day.
  9. this is not a reply directly to the above. i have not posted before so that i am not sure how to do this. generally, coach was very complimentary of our players. he said that tommy's defense has improved a lot. needs to work on a few more things. was not specific. talked about how he switched defense on and off of shaw when shaw moved from 4 to 3 and gave great effort. complimented kevin on his effort last game. mentioned how kevin needs to learn to play better off of the ball. complimented kevin for his effort on mullins. defended use of polk even if he does not score a lot. he talks on the floor and provides leadership. is rebounding well for the balls that come out from near the basket. plays strong defense. i do not remember a few other positive comments. complimented luke and paul generally on their efforts. wants luke to look more to score when opportunities are there. very complimentary of db for his rehab from very damaged knee. said danny has only played full for the last 8-9 days. said danny keeps wanting to improve. said danny spent a half hour with coach one on one for extra practice. very intense, nonstop half hour and at end danny thanked him. sounds to me like a coach still very much trying to help all of his players improve. spoke again about the analogy to m. jordan who played his best against every opponent. did not let the opponent dictate his level of play, but kept his level high and improving. that is what he wants for each of his players. spoke of how all of the players root for each other even if not in the game. all were very happy with the win sat. spoke of how dustin is working very hard to improve his game. said that anthony is working hard all the time to improve his game and his studies. having trouble adjusting from being the main man to being a spoke in the wheel. marcus is having trouble adjusting to being intense all the time and effective on defense. barry has to improve his defensive effort. he is 6'5" and not taller as orig reported. presents problems for him on defense. needs to learn to be more physical on defense and to front his man better. but also needs to learn to be more savy on defense and how he positions himself generally. believes the new 3 pt. line will stretch the game and make it somewhat less physical. if teams have players that can hit from new 3 pt. line, then defenses can not double down and lanes will be more open to cut thru. mentioned how femi will have to work on that part of his game. very complimentary of fans sat. nite. encourages fans to come to more games. hopes to get to that level of attendance during this season as a prelude to new stadium. a-10 is too spread out. most of teams are from phila. east. believe he said all teams but us are in the eastern time zone. would love to play in jesuit league or against lot of jesuit schools. trying to schedule georgetown. will try to improve schedule even if we are not ready to play the better schools now or next year. he anticipates we will be in next few years. when new ad is on board, he (or she) will work to improve schedule. generally, was not negative about players. was generally positive about players. admires hard work. but coach does ramble a lot when answering questions. that's about what i remember.
