Recruit (1/7)

  1. WRONG! For someone who is touted as a local hoops guru, Latch's assertion that Brandenburg could step in right now and be IV's backup is ludicrous! A. Knollmeyer goes about 235lbs. and has been working every day against Ian, BH and J.J. for 6+ months! The step-up in strength alone is prohibitve. I have seen some other comments made by Latch which have made me question his so called expertise, but if he really believes this latest posit, he really has no idea about the difference between H/S and D-1 ball. Perhaps he should stick to reporting the local H/S games...
  2. Sad - This is sad for everyone involved. However, from what I understand there is more to OI's situation than just academics and relate to character isssues as well. I posted about hearing rumors of HD's dismissal a week ago, but my comments were deleted... As far as a previous posters opinion that Soderberg should now bring in a "thug" - and regarding his rip on the Meyer article, THE GUY MUST BE A FOOL! As I stated in my post in the LM thread, perhaps those that want to follow a NBA minor league program, and those 1 or 2 and done type players that flock there in pursuit of the big pay day, should visit the Memphis or Cincy boards.
  3. Continue To Be Amazed... at the glass 1/2 full people on this board! Ya, I am just a relatively new fan, but man does the negativity flow here! By all accounts, Luke is a great student, very solid D-1 player, and perhaps most importantly, a great individual who will go on to be a success in life. Someone even said "in a real ideal world, he would not even be on the team"! My God - give this young man a break! (I'd bet a paycheck they don't have the balls to walk up to Luke and his dad after a game and say that!). He busts his ass every time he steps on the floor and brings many intangibles... call it guts, moxey, leadership, or whatever, SLU fans should be proud that this is the type of student-athlete that this university attracts. If some of you desire to be fans of a NBA minor league team and the one/two-and-done type players that flock there in pursuit of the big pay-day, perhaps posting on the Memphis or Cincy boards would be a better fit...
  4. Agreed... Don't understand these coaching decisions. Why was Maguire recruited if they are not gonna give him a chance? With KL obviously struggling with his hand and DB being so streaky, why wouldn't Soderberg put him in to see if he can contribute? Knollmeyer had been getting a few minutes, but last night in came Husak instead... and in the first thirty seconds, he missed a bunny and turned it over? With about four minutes to play, when they clearly are not going to win, why not get these kids some P/T? So they make a mistake. Does it matter if you lose by another couple points? Giving these guys a few minutes in those situations could pay dividends down the road when you need to have some depth. Had Coach Williams not put in his bench with under a minute to go, I don't think Soderberg would have put anyone else in. It looked to me like he only did it as an afterthought. How much is a young player going to learn in 47 seconds? If the coaches have no confidence in their freshmen, why was at least one of them not red-shirted? Really starting to wonder about Soderberg's ability to keep thinking/coaching when he is pissed. He quit coaching in the second half against A&M because of his emotions - will he continue to do so?
  5. Wondering... what happened to Kyle Kirk? I thought he went to MSU - the rumors I heard were that he was not the sharpest knife in the drawer. Was it grades? I am pretty sure he played AAU ball in IL with Maguire and Knollmeyer when they were younger.
  6. WTF? As a (somewhat) new Bills fan, I have been VERY disapointed in the paper's coverage (or lack of). Can someone provide a list of e-mails? I will gladly throw in my 2 cents worth... Thanks!
  7. Is it time to get Maguire some minutes? Wasn't the kid recruited for this very reason? (Please see Soderberg's comments in this year's Billiken Media Guide). There is no way DB is a better shooter... IMO
  8. I Agree Roy - As a relatively new Bills fan, I do not proclaim to be an expert on SLU BB. But after watching Maguire play during H.S., I do know that the kid can light it up! He has not played with the starters at all so far and this game would have given him a chance to show what he can do. If KL's elbow is hurt why take a chance on further injury? One awkward fall and he could be out for this important stretch of N/C games that are coming. Would we want to face UNC w/o Lisch? Some posters (like pompey and Realistic), are so critcal and love to throw insults at these freshmen. And since DM, OI and HD have hardly played, are they basing their negative comments on watching warm-ups? My ?'s are... Why doesn't Soderberg give these young men a chance to gain his confidence? Why did he recruit them? If they won't play this year, why not redshirt them?
  9. Fellow Posters - I have only followed the Billikens the last 2 or 3 years and just found out about this board a few months back. But I just have to ask - is anyone else as befuddled by Soderberg's coaching as I am? Points to ponder - * Why not play your 7 footer against a much smaller team? * What has happened to Ikeakor? * Wasn't Mcguire recruited to improve the woeful shooting? (Jr. High teams can go 3-18!)He hasn't even had a chance. * Why not give Knollmyer more p/t @ the 4 spot? Is it just me, or is this a very middle-of-the-pack D-1 team? I am afraid that UNC is really gonna embarrass the Bills and ruin X-Mas for the team! I know it is still early, but this squad does not look close to being a NCAA team...
  10. >Why didn't we see more of AK, OI or HD last game or really >any of the games thus far? I posted this in the Falkner thread, but got no response: O. Ikeakor did not make the trip to C'dale. Does anyone know why?
  11. Need To Know - Was R. Falkner recruited here? If so, why C'Dale over the Bills? Can you imagine if he was here, playin @ the 4 spot? The young man is a beast! As a side note: O. Ikeakor did not make the trip south... Anyone know why?
  12. Good Read! This was some enlightening stuff... kind of makes you wonder about the Bills choice for DBO. What is this guy's [batucci (sp)] backgound? I know C. Sloan was a former SLU player, but I heard the new guy was just a team manager. Come on. Is that the best we could do? Surely there was someone out there with a better pedigree that could help us with recruiting - IMO
  13. AGREED! Definitely thought there was a good opportunity to get Maguire in with about 5 min. to go in the half. The first seven had scored a grand total of 8 or 9 points and it might have been a chance for the kid to hit a couple of 3's during that span. He could not have done any worse than the shooting that I saw! HD might have been able to have matched some of A&M's athleticism as well. Tough for young players to learn if you don't give them a baptism under fire... Oh well, a long season awaits. Hopefilly, the players and coaches can learn something here.
  14. OUCH! The Bills got abused like a neighbors mule! As for IV, I thought he did very little in this tourney. I just heard from a college bud that was at the game. He said that the three NBA scouts he recognized got up and left at half-time. If they were there to see IV, don't you think they had to have put a big red question mark behind his name? Now Law and Jones are another matter! They are both obvious future players at the next level - IMO.
  15. WOW! Just a neutral observation, but after just two ex. games, it seems like Realistic is being kinda hard on a young freshman! With the fantastic high school and AAU numbers this kid put up, he has proven that he has the potential to be a good player for SLU. I heard he played against some of the top players in the country at that Reebok ABCD Camp and was touted as one of the best shooters there... I would definitely like to see him look to be a bigger threat to drive to the basket and maybe that would help him with the pull-up shot instead of just looking to catch and shoot. IMO, it looks like he has some jitters. This is probably the first time he has ever had to come off the bench and quickly be able to get into a shooting rythym. Give the young man a break. He was recruited for a reason.
