Recruit (1/7)

  1. This is quite a large chunk of change. Wouldn't there have to be some sort of approval process via the Board of Trustees to allocate additional funds? I was thinking that maybe the extra money raised was the money needed for RM and his assistant's salaries and the additional personnel (Strength and Conditioning, Academic, etc.) that was a part of RM's contract. Although the price tag has been raised, it must be a good sign. Biondi must not have raised the price tag if he didn't feel that the goal of $100 was not a achievable goal.
  2. Rick Majerus and the St. Louis Billikens program have scored a Top 100 prospect. Brett Thompson, ranked No. 79 in the nation, is headed to St. Louis after considering Iowa State, Alabama and Indiana. “He and his mom and his grandmother went there on an unofficial visit last Wednesday,†Vienna (Ill.) High coach Rick Metcalf said. “It went awfully well. We got tight with Porter Moser because we went to Illinois State for an unofficial visit way back when. He got the job at St. Louis and Porter was real truthful. It came down to a comfort zone. With Majerus and the facility in 2008; it all came into play.†As a junior, Thompson averaged 16 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks. “The numbers are deceiving because there were numerous games when he didn’t even play a whole quarter,†Metcalf. “We were killing some people. I want to play those guys a little longer this year.†Moser began forming his relationship with Thompson when he was the head coach at Illinois State. That relationship paid off under his new employer and now the Billikens own a commitment from a highly regarded insider.
  3. Not saying that I know the basketball players, but it is not uncommon for players to go elsewhere in the summer to get themselves ready for the fall. Even football players for Notre Dame, who have one of the most intense S&C coaches in the country, go elsewhere to improve themselves in the summer.
  4. I can't really see any reason why this deal cannot happen. With regard to the better travel arrangements, do you feel that this is athletic department wide, or just basketball in particular? More academic advisors: as a former student-athlete at SLU, I can say that the support for the student-athlete is very good, the office just looks like a fox hole! Although there is only one S&C coach, there is one, possibly two students (graduate student?) that assists. Wouldn't it be great to get Mike Linn back?!?!
  5. They are not apples and oranges. Both have similar situations. I am a supporter of both schools so get over it.
  6. For some of the members, it will be Coke and Sprites for you!
  7. There will be 11 or 12 in the current class. As far as not making the NCAAs, its obviously unacceptable but its soccer. All the bounces won't fall your way and you are going to stumble. There are a lot of excuses to say, but the future looks bright with this recruiting class. Look at the University of Notre Dame football team, they haven't won a bowl game in years and the pre-Weis era had a few Insight.com bowl games that were embarrassing. Now, everything is going their way! The soccer program is in good hands with Donigan and Sorber and they will continue to bring quality student athletes to the program. Just remember though, success breeds good players, so they understand the pressure they are under. Soccer and Basketball at SLU is completely different so let's not compare the two sports.
  8. For people who will be attending the game Saturday night, let me know via [email protected] that you will be attending and maybe we can all get together at Vitos and get a bite to eat prior to the match. Sound good? Let me know!
  9. If I would assume, anywhere around 10K would be a logical number. 10-15K is pretty high, yet attainable.
  10. billikenmetz get a life. get a job. get off the board unless you have something worthwhile to say. SLU does not owe you anything.
  11. I'm pretty sure the athletic department is doing everything it can to benefit the program and the school. My personal interactions with the department have been nothing but supportive in any fashion. Also, are you going to pay for the banners? Since I know you are a ND fan, you should research and see how much their banners cost them to display all of their Heisman Trophy winners and such. MUCHO DINERO. ALL DONATED. Cheryl is doing a good job and should not be discounted for her efforts. Sometimes, the students need to step up their support in order for the rest of the athletic program to thrive. More student support for the school and athletic program means more money for the program in general which results in better recruiting. SLU is on an athletic upswing, let's follow behind and support instead of unnecessaryly criticizing.
  12. We will take ever action under consideration. If it benefits the team and Saint Louis University, we will bail you out of the jail. :-)
