John Feinstein's take on the C7 in Washington Post

He writes like everything on there is fact but I suspect he's like all the others; just speculating.

Sure would be nice if he's right though...

Now back to my favorite book: A Season on the Brink

Bet Coach Crews is not a fan of that book!

Sure it's all speculation, but Feinstein has as much cred as anyone else at this point. Plus the league he describes really makes the most sense from a TV contract standpoint, which really is the most important factor since it's all about money. Sienna was a bit of a surprise name, but you can definitely see them lobbying to make the leap into what's going to be a premiere conference.

I always thought whether Creighton gets in would be based on the non rev sports. Now it wouldn't be too bad/costly if CU got in instead of DU, but for X, MU, and DePaul taking your softball and baseball teams to Omaha isn't going to be cheap. And given the current economic climate schools have to be cost conscious.

Still, if I was Fr. B and C. May, I'd be sending the GU president a case of his favorite adult beverage and a years supply of Cubans.

I wouldn't laugh at Detroit. If a Jesuit school is running this thing, then there will be pressure to take care of your own. Plus, there is something to be said about having a school in that recruiting market. Not an ideal choice, but makes more sense than a Sienna.

This was posted on the providence board. The poster's brother is on PC's board of directors, so it is as good a source as one can hope for as far as message boards go.

This article is totally bogus. Any part that has merit is common knowledge at this point anyway.

I did not say Richmond is not on any list anywhere - I said Richmond is not on THE list and I stand by that. Siena is not on the list.

There is no 6 east and 6 west agreement especially for BB. Detroit is not on the list.

Creighton is well thought of and St.L is "on the bubble".

There is no Catholic "rule".

Butler and X are in and they asked in immediately.

Dayton is lobbying every BB 7 President to get in.

It is not true that the listed Presidents have no interest in who is in the league. Father Shanley is involved with BE negotiations etc. on a daily basis along with the Nova President.

AD's want 10 teams and Fox wants 12 The number is not really decided yet and there is no TV contract (just a verbal offer) and tere cannot be one until there is a league to negotiate with. MT is a consultant to PC so there is no grudge there at least with PC and he is semi retired in FLA and probably does not want to return to be Commisioner but has promised (on the record) to do whatever he can to help PC basketball - n ot necessarily the league.

MT was quoted extensively after he "retired" that Bb schools should dump FB ASAP before any of this happened - like 1 1/2 years ago.

As I said mostly BS. I suppose all you have to do is say you got it from an unnamed inside source and then you can print anything.

The big issue right now is how the $80M in the bank gets divided. Once that is settled - or goes to court - the rest of the dominos will fall quickly. Big East name is up in the air because Aresco is trying to hold the $80M hostage.

The $2.5M per year for FB and BB is for 2014/2015. There needs to be a bridge BB TV contract for 2013/2014 in any event - this impacts BB 7 if 2014 is the exit date - which it probably is.

ND went to the ACC because they needed to hook up with one of the leagues that now have major bowl tie ins. BE no longer has major bowl tie in and the "at large" route is shaky. ND gets the major (Orange) bowl over even the ACC playoff winner if they meet certain requirements. FSU and some other major ACC FB schools are VERY unhappy about that.

I guess I can understand the C7 wanting only to add 3 more schools since there will be fewer pieces of the pie. However, I can't help but think the boys w/ the fat wallet, ie Fox Sports, will dictate the number of teams in the league, read TV markets for teams.

So based on Billyfriars friend's brother, we should get in if they go to 12. And if UD's doing serious lobbying, which I don't doubt for a minute, why aren't we? Again, cases of Glen Morangie scotch and boxes of Cubans should be delivered to all the C7 presidents and sporting the label of the smiling winking basketball twirling Billiken.

To maximize their investment Fox would require 12 teams. The inventory of DePaul, Providence, and Seton Hall isn't worth much at this point. Fox needs quantity. I still don't see a scenario where SLU isn't involved. It just makes too much sense from Fox's end.

How? It is a Jesuit university in the midwest.

If Detroit is in play with no winning tradition, support, or well anything then watch out Butler because winning doesn't mean anything. How about we add Fordham, Canisius, and I'm sure Rockhurst would move up to Div 1 for an opportunity like this.

Detroit? Seriously??????

I don't care who is on the negotiating committee, nothing gets done without the Hoyas signing off on it first. Let's face the truth here........... What Georgetown wants, Georgetown will get. They have the top name recognition, top program, top school, most money, and the best connections of all the programs involved in this. Anyone really think that anyone in Providence is going to tell them no? Please.
