Of course people can change their minds, but as of right now we have only 2 scholarships and 1 is spoken for. Unless we plan on oversubscribing we only have one to go. That is how I think about it.

Of course, you could always argue that we should be recruiting for 13 spots since any player could leave at any time...

My point simply was that until the kid signs a LOI then nobody is tied to anything they said before. We all know that we have kids change their minds after they told us they were coming - Josh Harrelson for one.

Berry is going to have to sit a year no matter what/where he decides. Yarbrough is for next year, correct? Stranger deals have been cut. Seems I would prefer to have guys signed who will play next year. I still believe either Gillmann or Jolly are prime redshirt candidates too. Given all I've heard thast Berry plays the same game as Gillmann, Jolly and Welmer, do we need more of that?

Jolly is supposedly more of a post up, back to the basket type center. He plays a lot inside but has the ability to hit the three point shot. He is the one big man coming in who plays well down low.

Josh harrelson never gave SLU an oral commitment.

I do not understand why you keep pushing this thing on Wellmer. I know for a fact that the staff is high on Wellmer and they like him a lot and he is excited about being a Billiken. There is no reason to believe that he is not committed to the Bills so why make stuff up. Josh Harrelson never told the Bills he was coming.

And the fact that he is doing a year of prep school will make him a much more mature freshman. Let's hope he signs this fall before he blows up in prep school!

Reading the writing on the wall it appears Berry is at best a 2nd or 3rd option for us or showed little interest in coming to SLU. While anything is possible, I think the likelihood of Berry walking on at SLU when he probably has offers to play at 2 dozen or more d-1 schools is about the same as Roy waking up tomorrow and posting in this thread.

I am not saying the kid is not a good player just that until he signs a LOI he can change his mind as well as us. Try to read for content.

Soderberg wasnt the coach

Its tough to take someone's memory of something that happened 6 years ago seriously when they can't even remember who the coach was at the time (I'll give him a pass on the KU/UK typo).

I remember the Harrellson recruitment fairly well. It was always going to be a dog fight to get him over UK and the other big boy programs that were sniffing around. He certainly never gave us an oral commitment, no matter how much Frank may have jumped the gun on his radio show. Frank is a great guy and a huge Billiken supporter, but he's not exactly Mr. accurate when it comes to local recruiting and the Billikens' chances with players.

According to Ben's twitter, Yarbrough was offered by UNLV. Looks like more competition.

When we get him, we'll be able to brag that we landed him over UNLV. That will sound better than saying we got him over Bradley and Illinois St.

Didn't Glaze sign with Lon Kruger and then was able to get a clear release when UNLV replaced Kruger at the end of the 10-11 season? Kruger then went to Oklahoma.

You make it sound like UNLV fired Kruger and that isn't what happened. Kruger quit to take the OU job.

Cuonzo Martin left Tennessee for Cal. I wonder if Larry Austin Jr. will reopen his recruitment.

Even if he did, I doubt we would have a great shot. That said, would be great and I hope it's possible.

An SEC coach leaving for the Pac-12... how can that be? After UK and Florida made the Final Four, a lot of SEC tools came out of the woodwork trying to re-write history that the SEC indeed was a good bball league this past season. Wrong, they had one excellent team, one that got hot, a decent one that barely got on with UT and then a whole bunch of crap after that.

Martin was mentioned for SLU around the time of RM. I'm glad we didn't go that route. He has bounced around a bit now. For our program, I prefer the stability of the wise old guy (Spoon, RM and now JC) to the young hot shot looking to jump to the next job.

He also had interest/offers from Minnesota and Iowa, though I don't really think they are pursuing him anymore. Either way, he would be a fantastic addition to an already great looking class.
